Very nice little bag. Shimoda has quickly become my favourite bag company. The zipper situation sounds a bit odd though. I would have preferred It to be better sealed. It's really the only complaint I have. Maybe if they make a v2 at some point.

    Hi Dan,
Nice video to showcase the Shimoda top loader.
A fifth way that I use most often is using the Shimoda’s hip belt separately either as a sling standalone or separated from the backpack and reversed. Meaning put top loader on hip belt and clipping it from behind with top loader in front like a fanny pack. This way I am not dependent on being stuck with it in the way when bending down as you said or when taking the backpack off, I’m not worried that the weight of a 70-200 lens will swing wildly when unclipping it. But of coarse, if you need the hip belt for heavy loads then the four options you mentioned works.

Very nice. I agree on the D-ring location. I always clip one corner of the holster to the left shoulder pad (via a longish strap like the one you have) and the right corner of the holster directly to the right hip belt with a carabiner. This lets the bag ride near the hip belt but have plenty of movement so that it's not like having a big rock attached directly to your belt.

A very useful review, one question: when using the top loader on the hip belt, with a camera loaded, at what point is the weight of the camera too big and it could start slipping of the belt when unbuckling the hip belt?

I wish it was an inch wider on the width! Would have allowed quicker access with my sony mirrorless with the peak design grip strap on! Still fits but takes a few seconds longer putting it in and out! Makes a significant difference that quick grab! Hopefully Shimoda will revise it!

Hi Dan, I am also very happy with this toploader, usually loaded with my Z 7 with 24-70mm f/4.0 S attached. For day hikes mounted to my Explorer 40 backpack, for overnight adventures on my Lundhags Gnaur. Works great on both bags. By the way, are you going to review the Action X70?

Do you use the 4 accesory straps from Shimoda to connect to Lundhags Gnaur?

Hi Dan, an excellent review as always. With regard to the shoulder strap carrying arrangement could you use the nylon tabs above the D rings for attaching the shoulder strap too? It might hang a little sraighter.

Hi, what is the max diameter on a lens when in the holsters extended mode? I’m wondering if a vintage Nikkor 300mm ED f2.8 AiS would fit? It messure 5,41’’ x 9,35’’ (137mm x 240mm) what do you think ? Best regards Alfons
