  • In this episode I go over what I believe to be the easiest most effective way to make a quick release planer and bridle system is. Super productive and makes life simple when planer trolling... Allowing you, the angler, to use what is know as a wind-on leader and fight the fish all the way to the boat. You'll use this application instead of old school hand lining in the fish one you reach the planer... You keep on reeling. If you're into planer trolling and are looking to move forward in your diversification of techniques, or maybe you've just always wondered how to go about making the quick release planer.... This episode's definitely for you.
    Enjoy,
    Tight lines & good vibes.

    Hi Heath
    Is it possible to bend the planer a bit to steer the planer out to the side away from the motor? I do this with downriver weights and thought it may work for planers too.
    I’m thinking in particular the method using the planer for constant depth and send double swivels down the planer line as releases. This would allow high speed planer fishing without the need for a bridle. Thanks for a great subscription.

    • @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
      @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing  Před rokem +1

      Not sure if that would work... honestly never thought about, used to planers being towed straight out the back.
      The alternate method you're referring to does exist... tying the planer off on a cleat and sending your line down on a swivel attached by a breakaway rubber band. Good luck and be safe out there

      Bought a used Penn international 30 on a 7’ Fenwick custom rod yesterday spooled with 50 pound mono. I was wondering if you think 50 pound is too much and if I should get it spooled with 30 pound mono. I plan to troll Rapala XRaps and the sea witch skirts with Bonita strips you have shown. I wasn’t sure if the lures would have good action with the 50 pound.
      How would you set this reel up Heath for trolling Kings, possible grouper, Bonita etc?
