- I'm Stuart Sykes and I have lived in Barnsley all my life and am a keen landscape photographer.
Its my passion to restore old photographs and make them look how I think they should be viewed in all their splendour and glory.

I left my home town of Barnsley 30 years ago - great to see these old pictures & to look at how my grandparents would have seen the town when they were children before WW1. Very moving.
Superb work Stuart.
Glad you enjoyed it
Hey up mate really liked this and you've done a fabulous job bringing it in to colour thank you
Thank you! Cheers!
@@oldbarnsleyincolour totally more than welcome lad
Hi Stuart fantastic work well done love it .
Many thanks
Great restoration work. Looking fantastic, thanks for sharing👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Great job done.
Thanks a lot.
Fantastic photos, very nostalgic. The Harvey Institute/Civic Hall is on Eldon Street not Peel Street, I worked there as a teenager and my friend's father was the manager.
❤️👍😎
Superb!
Thank you! Cheers!
I prefer Barnsley as it was then to how it is now, just thousands of glass panes, most of the lovely old buildings gone.
Yup - many do :)
Amazing. Thank you so much.
You're very welcome!
Great photos, thanks
Glad you enjoyed it
Have you any photos of John street in Barnsley
Where Garners motorcycle shop used to be?
I searched for years to find one
Stuart, I have had a look at the coloured photos on CZcams and they are fantastic. Thank you for sharing. It brings it all back to me of the times I was working, part time, at the Co-op restaurant, when I was 14 years of age. When I left school, I worked there full time and while I was there I went into-I am not being rude-the "Cock shop" where we cooked chickens on a rotating oven type machine. Thank you for the memories.
I also worked at Co-op for bit - Menswear Dept on Market Street

Beautiful work 👌🏼
Thank you! Cheers!
What’s crazy is Barnsley town centre could be video recorded and then re outputted as a nerf model and then retexture mapped with these recoloured and upscaled photos to re-engineer a model of Barnsley from the past.
I wish yer would..!
Hi Stuart. Love the photos. My great grandfather was one of the first photographers in Barnsley. He had a shop on Shambles Street I believe. Can you shed any light on this?
I found this - The Barnsley Photographic Society was founded on May 21, 1924 in the Shambles Street photographic studio of a Mr A Roberts. The original subscription was five shillings per year!
@@oldbarnsleyincolourMy Great Grandfather pre-dated Mr Roberts and I seem to recall that he occupied those premises before him.
Hi Stuart, just in case you do not know, I believe the second photo shows the Ebeneeza church where I 'froze' on stage as a young lad. Going up the right hand side eventually leads up to Buckley Street where I grew up until we were all moved to Athersley North.
Thanks for the memories John 👃
Or Rowland Winn Vauxhall garage on new Street
Where MacDonalds is now 🤞
Well dun ah kid!

What a waste of great buildings.
