Tried this a few times now, seems to work quite nicely. The only games I lost were through my own stupidity, and not the opening itself. I think this will become my go to opening against c5.
"Don´t mind me, just crushing someone 2890 in the first game with the new British GP opening." 😎 Savage 😅
Having bought a couple of your Chessable courses I’ve just stumbled on your channel. Hilarious! Great work Simon. GP course is next on my list!
"Not too taxing on your clock, not too taxing on your brain" - GM Jim Plaskett
Having loved the Grand Prix since Jim Plaskett's video in the late 90's this wrinkle makes a lot of sense. I particularly like the early Kh1 idea.
This should probably be called "the professional grand prix" - it keeps the typical attacking ideas in mind, without having to bulldoze in 20 moves.
I remember Short vs Gelfand on that Jim Plaskett video was a lot more positional and longer than the other games which mostly went bish bash bosh. I reckon Nigel would like this slower build up a lot.
TLDR: I love that this opening is still alive in the YT era, thanks Ginge and Richard
You rule Simon but not as much as Mr. Charlie the chess cat 😸. I'll be buying this not because I need it or will learn it anytime but to support the GingerGM glad your feeling well again 💪💪💪💪
Played this line with a lot of success decades ago. Larsen liked to start with 2.f4. I really got into it after chessbase release Opening repertoire for white by Bangiev. Not sure why it starts 2.Be2 apart from just the novelty value but there might be more to it. As always, a entertaining video by Simon.
The GP originally began like that but black started playing d5 immediately. So 2 Nc3 came in and transpositions into Open Sicilian is an issue for Najdorf players if they have a misplaced piece.
2 Be2 retains option of playing c3 later vs fianchetto or to support a big c3-d4-e5 centre
Very interesting. Thanks
11:24 - Rap skills!!! 😍
Reminds me a lot of the Bird opening. Which is nice since its my main opening as White :D Good stuff!
I bought the course, interesting way to play against the Sicilian and a nice way tu support my favorite gm, who taught me so much (esp. random attacks with Harry the h pawn 🤗)
Also Magnus has played this or similar system with transpositions. Main proponent however is Vladislad Kovalev.
great video! Love this opening.
@17.20 min 17.20 good tim3 too review
First i thought Williams was going to crash me out of the first corner.
Simon is back!
I like it. Been playing the GP since the 80s, but I haven't spotted this idea in any literature. It will definitely surprise all the booked up fish who will be frustrated because they can't wheel out their memorized anti-GP pet lines.
The first game was great. However, for some reason, this 2900 player played like 2000. Had a rather bad positional understanding
First
Can you do a lesson on how to crush the grand prix as black?
@Axileus OMG 😂😂😂
