Here's Roland Dyens live at GSI playing his arrangement of Astor Piazzolla's Oblivion on a very important guitar - a 1947 Robert Bouchet that was the 2nd guitar Bouchet ever built and the first he ever sold (he had made the first for himself and kept it). Recorded live at the Guitar Salon International showroom in Santa Monica, CA.
Huge thanks to the folks at AEA (RibbonMics.com) for the use of their N8 and N22 ribbon active microphones in these recordings.

R.I.P. Dear Maestro. What a great loss for the classical guitar community and music in general.
He brings this song to another level, another universe beyond the living.
If you try to play Oblivion according to Maestro Dyens....is .. so, so hard. Such a great musician he was u.u .
A truly gifted a wonderfully humorous person. Let us not dwell is sorrow for his passing but revel in what he left us. Thank you maestro.
I am glad to live in an age where we can listen to recordings and hear people speak that have passed. Roland Dyens playing and attitude is marvelous. Thank-you for posting these. He is a blessing.
Reports of his brilliance, warmth, and humor were not exaggerated!
This interpretation always makes me cry. RIP master Roland
Oh wow it's a joy to hear him speak too. What a personality and talent. Rest in peace
Roland... ... Rest in peace MAESTRO... thank you for all the soul you left in the music we conserve from you... ... ... ...
Grande Roland Dyens !!!!!! SEI UN MITO !!!!!! R.I.P. Non sarai mai dimenticato da chi ama la Musica e la Chitarra e da chi come me ha avuto la fortuna e l' onore di conoscerti e Grazie ancora per la Tua ARTE !!!!!!
How he throws those harmonics in like its no problem....wow
Merci, Roland Dyens, pour tout ce que tu as apporté, ce que tu nous laisse. Quite wonderful
We are less without him. Such a loss.
I still have a lot of listening to do , but of what I've listened to so far , I dare say this is the most beautiful thing anyone has ever played on the guitar. Ever.
as you said, listening to do
You played the "forget" song, but how can we forget you. RIP.
Roland was one-of-a-kind, thanks for uploading this. That Bouchet guitar has those growling basses, and sweet fully round trebles that the world longs for, what an instrument.
It is a such deep shock to all of us (musicians - guitarists). The great profound composer/arranger/guitarist has left the stage for good. my sincerely condolences to the family.I hope these beautiful pieces are in print. looking forward to it.Warm regards,Ba Thinh & Ba Khang

Just stumbled on this. Beautiful rendition of this song. Had never heard this guitarist before. Have been playing this melody on my ukulele.
If you like this you should look for his rendition of a chopin waltz. Sublime. czcams.com/video/bj2E83KWogA/video.html

Merveilleux pédagogue. Merveilleuse musique. Du grand art!
So touching!! He brought us jazz players to listen classical guitar.
to be fair Piazzolla's kind of a mix of the two and tango :P
That was just gorgeous.
Stunning! Thank you so much.
Nossa, que emoção ele transmite ao ouvinte. Um toque único.
RIP sir. You are a giant!
Awesome! And this guitar tone ... I've never heard such great deep tone
For $275,000 you can have tone like that ! Whew !
Agree, been heard so many classical guitar from all major makers, so far this one has the deepest bass, all other Bouchet guitar pre 1960 also has this kind of characteristic, but this specific one is the best, truly magical
@@nelsongrimaldi3926 What? I thought this was because of the microphone. If it is really the guitar, what makes it have so much bass?
Master Maestro. Just a little piece of heaven fallen to earth. Thank you!
I cannot believe what I hear. This is impossible, so much passion and understanding, pathos and HARMONY
.... the best play ever. AMAZING
We miss you maestro Dyens :(

The bass E on this guitar is incredible!
maybe because its not an E
It's a C.
Fantastic interpretation by well known Rolald
Wow! Even screwing this piece up the maestro makes it timeless.
I love it when the greats make mistakes.
Oh my God!
It is a laid back roller coaster trip, ridden blinfolded, and built with sudden short turns. lol
Rest easy
Лучшая версия!
Jouer cet version de Roland sans une guitare vraiment exellente c'est inutile.
Please, give us the footage of his take on Libertango!!
