Truth my brother.
Sabrent 1tb ssd has an optional heatsink you can buy seperately to cover and help cool the SSD. I got it and so far it works flawlessly. Getting 6500 read speed too
Same
The Sabrent I got came with that heat sink. It is shaped like the cover and basically takes its place. Since it’s one of the most popular SSDs for PS5 I wish he had mentioned this exception.
I get where your coming from but just save for the 2tb so dont have to open again later on. I got the Samsung 2tb heatsink one, only annoying part was first connecting it to a pc to update the firmware for speed.
Lucky you, I'm getting 5830 read. And that was after reformatting thrice..I only got 4800 when I first fired it up..
Yeah mine was like 6547 or something like that...
Thanks 🙏

What about using one of those third-party expansion slot covers with a built in heatsink? Some work really well in keeping the ssd cooler than just the base cover. And don’t have any gaps to let dust in
Facts
Is it cheaper to buy one of those covers and an SSD rather than buying a heatsink SSD?
@@Adi-cn9pm you may as well just buy it with the heatsink. The only difference is usually $20-$30.

It’s also very easy to remove the cooling fan itself to clean. All I can say is if you smoke inside your home your PS5 will absolutely get filthy along with any other electronics. I worked for a game store and anytime we got in used systems that were in smokers homes they are pretty much not able to be resold without getting completely taken apart and refurbished.
so early that i could only see a few frames of the video cus its still uploading
💀
wait..what?
From what I've seen and read, the cover is part of the cooling duct..it pulls air in around that area and into the console. Without the cover the airflow is slowed considerably in certain areas causing heating issues.
Exactly. To me that’s the most important reason to attach the cover, to assist with airflow
That would make sense
Yes it creates a type of reverse vacuum and pulls air into the ssd area when the cover is on...
@super1313131313 no....you have to buy the correct size M.2 SSD and heatsink..... exact size specs for ssd and heatsink max sizes are on the PS webite....
@super1313131313 it works fine for now...Where possible, you should always use the PS5 M.2 SSD slot with the cover on it. Although this seems a little counter-intuitive (as it prevents airflow over the SSD from the big internal PS5 fan, that is why the heat dissipation qualities of an SSD heatsink are necessary. If you run your PS5 with the cover on the m.2 SSD slot REMOVED, then although this will allow airflow to cool the SSD heatsink on your m.2 drive, it may interrupt/compromise the airflow internally on the PS5 towards the much, MUCH more important CPU, GPU and memory inside that keep the system running. These need extra cooling too and that is why the PS5 uses the negative pressure 2 vent system internally to ensure air is circulated in, through and out of the system as fast as possible! There are exceptions, such as the Sabrent SSD with heatsink...but otherwise, I would always recommend using the cover for the overall better health of your PS5.....so saying its "fine"...will probably ruin your PS5 over time....but do what you will...
I love how knowledgeable this guy is. Amazing
your very helpful for me so thank you

Congratulations on 700k 🎊
Depends on the heatsink used. Some heatsinks don't allow for proper airflow through the tiny slots provided in the cover effectively suffocating the SSD.

HI JOHN, I watch all your videos and enjoy them all. I NEED SOME ADVICE. I have tried everything to try to get my PS5 to run on 120hz including buying another new OLED tv which definitely supports this and new 8k HDMI but cannot seem to get it to switch? is this just because only certain games work at this? thank you in advance and have a great day.😊
Hi Wayne,
It's just certain video games that support 120hz. It only changes to 120hz when you are in the actual game not in the home menu.

The only problem when you install an ssd is the second screw I couldn’t remove it even with a small screwdriver in the end I managed to remove it with some help but it is unacceptable for Sony and the youtubers to show you how simple it is to remove it when a lot of people can’t remove the screw because it’s tightly screwed
I almost broke the screw so I asked help from my neighbour in the end he managed to remove the screw I don’t know why they made the screw so tight so you can’t remove it anyway my friend ask a friend or someone who knows how to find the spare parts you need
@@nicemarks555 😂😂😂😂😂👌👌👌👌👌
Make sure you're using the correct size screw driver. Mine wasn't tight at all though but if some are that tight I can imagine people are stripping them
I believe the ssd is also a heatsink so it is very important to put it on
Dear John Glasscock please show us, how did you unscrew the two screws without licking the slots on them, and without breaking the "spacer", did you use Philips screwdriver #1 like said SONY in official video, or you use PH #0 and maybe some cloth to seal the screwdriver when turning first rotation? Thanks for your videos!
I just use a standard Phillips screwdriver. Use the correct size so you don't strip the screw

can you tell me if the sabrent heatsink is compatible with the western digital sn850 ssd with heatsink? 💥💥💥
The cover also helps with cooling.
If you got the extra money to spend, I recommend the Samsung 2TB SSD. It's steep at $300 but, well worth it.

@@HandledToaster2 I wish I was a PC gamer.
Just picked two up from Best Buy for $99.99. Hell of a sale and I’m not putting a heatsink on this thing

I got SSD with a large Heatsink about 8 months ago. I have had zero problems without cover installed..
For now! When the dust build up finally sets in on that SSD and Mobo, you're gonna be SOL! the PS5 was designed in such a way that the pressure can be effected by not applying the expansion bay cover! Big risk you're taking there!
How will the airflow pass over AND cool the nvme drive with the cover on?
If you look close there are no in takes or passthru holes inside the nvme bay with the cover on.
Yes there is two holes on the outside cover right hand side parallel to each other they’re more like cut outs out the case it’s self with the cover on the fan creates a vacuum sucking heat out that bay through the external slots a Sony engineer stated this months ago
I bought a replacement expansion bay that sits flush and is also a heatsink for the SSD
Please talk about horizontal or vertical for PS5, I´ve put it on horizontal way, due to the liquid metal issue
Got the sn 850 and the sabrent heatsink cover
GG bro 🔥🔥
What type of screwdriver do you use to unscrew the 2nd screw in the inside? 🤔

Sabrent sells a heatsink for their SSD that doubles as a cover, so you can replace the stock cover and just screw this new one on as a heatsink
Using a carbon fiber one with a built-in heatsink should work pretty good
You can blow it with a CO2 spray and clean it that way. I dust my gaming room once every two days so dust accumulation is not that bad in my place.
people have no time for that bro
@@samjam6989 it's easy to blow that CO2 cold air into the place to blow the dust away from places that cannot be reaches or disassembled from the console. Also, keeping your place clean helps.
Thanks for the heads up. Do you think the PS5 Pro will have a built in SSD?

I just got dbrands 2.0 dark plates. Curious to see how they perform with dust in those areas.
I've got them and they perform absolutely great plus my SSD cover is completely off and my console sits horizontally and does just fine PCs do this all the time this is not nothing new. This is only something to worry about if you're too lazy to routinely clean your Hardware. So This is console Gamers being console Gamers and thinking they've got some kind of spec to follow. As long as good airflow goes in an comes out its fine. Let the by the book worms have their moment
I installed a Corsair 680 1TB ssd with a heat-sink pre-installed. Then after about two weeks I tried a "ineo" vented ssd cover that has a dust filter as well & it still got dusty in the ssd bay so I took it out & put the standard tin lid back on. I don't know if the vented lid helped cool the ssd but even with the so-called dust filter it did let a fair amount of dust get in.
I think that some of these sorts of accessories are just an untried gimmicks that someone has thought should work, but without any testing.
Hey so If my side plate cover was broken does Sony help out with selling spares or replacements?
These videos are all helpful advice for me when using my PS5...

Best outro in the world!
Any fix for stick drift? Seems unstoppable
I read that the SSD cover improves airflow and assists with cooling. It creates a kind of vacuum thing that helps remove heat. So I would definitely keep it on.
Lmao.. mine isnt on an does just fine. I also got the dark plates 2.0 and everything has been working great. You yalls issues don't seem to be my issue's
Digital foundry ran tests. 15 degrees cooler without the cover. I know this thread is super old but whatever
@@piffdaddy2099 cool
should i put back the ps5 conver or is it ok that i am using the selgato Heatsink?
When I upgraded ny Ps5 with ssd card and played like 40 or 55 minutes I touched the place where was ssd and honestly it wasn't hot at all maybe like cold-warm thing with cover of course
That would be a silly idea to leave the expansion bay cover off I definitely wouldn't when I do upgrade my PS5
All my consoles through time has been filled up with dust, and I have never cleaned a single one, and never had a problem with a single one. Dust doesn’t seem to be a issue what so ever...
