    A homemade gokart with suspension at the front and rear. a custom made transmission with reverse gear, the trans won't last long without oil but he made the transmission from scratch and its smooth between gear change. damn what an awesome creation..

    You should look up "Universal joint phasing". All your shafts seems to be out of phase. Which means the input / output speed won't be a constant 1:1 but will fluctuate between 1:0,8 and 1:1,2 (rough examples) if you don't have a differential in that gearbox it will put excess stress on everything.
    On the steering this could cause surprises as sometimes the wheels turn much more than you'd expect.

The unfortunate part is you have taken some nice useful tubing and turned it into scrap because of your method of manufacture but as a learning exercise it has been useful. These are only my opinions, as long as you are happy with the vehicle and I don't have to ride in it then all is good! I look forward to seeing more of your content. 😎👍

    You would need to close in the gearbox tho, to keep dirt and debris out of the transmission... maybe add some grease...
    I'm impressed at the use of mostly scraps.
    I am also disappointed at the lack of serviceability... - welding parts so they can't be removed, welding directly to bearing races, etc.... You could have used "pillow blocks" (bearings with a mounting flange) to accommodate some of that...

      @@ksthacks that's up to you, personally, I prefer to build to be able to maintain it with hand tools, instead of grinders and welders, and so that wear parts that need lubrication (the meshing gears) get that lubrication. to do it "dry", you could have used belts, or, chains. Another easy hack way, would have been to use the "infinitely variable" belt drive (I don't know if you have snowmobiles there, or a lot of scooters use these as transmissions), it would "eliminate the transmission", but, allows smooth power to speed transitions and greatly simplifies things in application. they are adjusted by changing the springs/weights....

    Incredible build KST. I've never seen anyone fabricate their own gearbox before. The WHOLE kart is made from scratch, amazing. I would be interested to have an update on how well things hold together, especially the gearbox and independent suspension etc... Those parts are under a lot stress. Anyway, you've earned my respect and subscription.

    Awesome vision and ingenuity to come up with the design. I have a tendency to over-engineer and over-build projects. Especially anything that going to hold, support, protect, or carry a person. Probably because of that some of the choices made in the fabrication give me anxiety and make me wonder about strength and durability given the loads and stress that parts will be subjected to. But it’ll go a helluva lot further than the cart I ever built and likely never will. Good stuff tho.

      I'm the same, I'm actually so bad that I stopped replacing badly rusted sections on a boat trailer because I kept thinking about the what if to much. So now I'll just make a small trailer and use the left over steel for other projects. One good thing about that is I'll have alot of steel because the trailer is for a 16ft boat.

    That was an interesting project and the finished product looks cool. Nice one!
    However, the final drive ratio seems a little slow for my liking. Man has run faster than 44.4kph! In the interests of speed and reliability, I'd forget reverse gear and weld a drive sprocket directly to the centrifugal clutch housing. A correctly chosen sprocket on the axle would prove a lot faster, lighter and much more durable than that, admittedly cool, gearbox design. 70kph+ should be relatively easy to achieve with the right sprockets and perhaps by disabling/removing the engines governor. However, I'm not sure 70kph+ would be advisable with the ratio of that steering rack... and by the looks of some of them welds.

    I was amazed how smooth the transmission turned out. Yes there was some misalignment from just eye-balling and tacking it in place, but that's what chain drives allow for. He did grease it up well, but if you put a plate on bottom and put a bit of 90 weight oil in the bottom just enough to let the bottom gears set in it by an inch, it will self lube the entire assembly and last.

    • @SilvaDreams
      @SilvaDreams Před 3 lety

      Don't think that gear assembly was ever intended to have oil, just be grease packed from the look of it. Likely could have stood to be cleaned out and re-packed.
