What is Darkness Falls?
Darkness Falls is an overhaul mod for 7 Days to Die. It takes previous alpha features and combines them with some new. Making a challenging, fun and more rewarding experience.

@@SnowBee Or maybe not as i saw quite some loot crates just hovering in midair. And it takes for ages for the destruction to actually happen - that is enough time to do some looting and get safely back down (especially with parkour).
So a fun midgame strategy might be to blow POIs up with dynamite and then ladder up to the loot using other explosives to clean the zombies that gather around your nerdpole base after they spawn midair and fall to the ground...

If you had maxed out parkour, the debris that was left floating after the building crumbled would make the perfect horde base. The zombies can't destroy that which is already destroyed.

Yeah, when someone suggested it yesterday, I went and blew up another building, then build some blocks on the floating debris. I guess it can work.
@@SnowBee that's what I'm talking about. It may be a hard limitation built into the engine that tfp won't be able to patch out without a full rewrite of their code.

That freaking intro, SnowBee...Dayum! Fabulous video!! I would have liked to see the "structural integrity" view of those last remaining assets, just to verify there wasn't any, and it was a glitch in the matrix.

Yeah, it was time. I actually did do a structural integrity check half way through, but it was part of the cut out bit.
Strangely enough, the blocks during the breaking and crumbling time showed no red or any colour whatsoever. The only ones that showed red were the blinds and windows on the outside. I don't know why, it could be that the game knew those blocks that were falling were going to fall and didn't treat them as normal blocks, I don't know. All the buildings surrounding the Dishong Tower showed their structural integrity colours, just nothing for Dishong, except for those few red bits on the blinds and windows. Don't know why.
Hey Snowbee, that was definitely an awesome demonstration! If I may, I'd like to suggest maybe having a look at the "stability map" before, during and then afterwards so we can see the progression... or rather, the DI-GRESSION, Lol đ€©đ

Yeah, I should have left it in. I did during the video, but cut it out due to time.
It was a strange stability map. NOTHING showed up in green/red/yellow, etc. Except for some windows in red. I don't understand it. Maybe I should do a very quick follow up video with some of the stuff I cut out, and one or two suggestions.
@@SnowBee It would interesting to see how the physics of the game play out if you recalculate the stability after something like that. And maybe throw out some probable reasons as to why those individual blocks don't behave properly in the game. You might be on to reasons why that POI struggles so hard with FPS. Either way, it was awesome!

It could contextualized as a zombie hive (similar to Dying Light), however you'd need to explore and set up several explosives around the area to demolish it (or do it with your own gear).
Would be interesting to see what would happen if you went with a more strategic approach and started at top and made a line all the way down the tower hitting all the key supports and ending with a pile in center
this takes me back to OG minecraft tnt videos. Hopefully they addd the same feature as minecraft so tnt or explosions are not laggy
We brought this down with Valkyries in Undead Legacy for the lols. (It was a mission, so it respawned after). The blinds, in particular, didn't fall. We ended up sniping stuff which brought other stuff down.
what you didnt test when it all finished collapsing is if you can climb back up those floating items and use it as an afk base or do the items fall when you step on them? cos ive had floating things before but when i walked on them, they fell.. it could be cool to use max parkour to try to get to the top again if they dont fall.. maybe have a race between you and a freind?

I know the items are very sensitive, so shooting them did make most of them fall when I tried later.

Yeah, the old version were quite mundane and drab. The POI looks very different these days.
Dishong tower turns into a Dekogon Tower
This is fun to see just because this place takes so long to do. lol
the problem i found with collapsing a big thing cos i made 6 pyramids floating to make a cube 51x51 each pyramid base... i used rockets to blow up the lower one and make the whole thing collapse.. problem was, as the building collapses the rubble fills in the gaps again and it stops collapsing
Yeah, you are correct. My crater was filled up quite fast with rubble.
However, I don't know if rubble is different in A21, but it kept falling and kept crushing the rubble underneath.
How did the rubble just dissappear? It didnÂŽt do that for us, was some office building about 5 stories high and once the rubble piled up enough it gave support again and the building stopped falling apart. We had to remove it over and over again to get the whole building done. Was also in A21 already.
Yeah, someone else was commenting about that as well. I don't know. Maybe it was the distance the rubble was falling. Maybe it was breaking the rubble underneath... but I am really guessing here.

Yeah, I lived in Durbs most of my 20's, then moved to the Western Cape. Have now been here for half my life. Summer is almost like Durban weather these days, however, the winters are still much colder than Durban.
Other than that, I prefer the Western Cape.

If you had some people inside the building, upon having the foundations destroyed, could they quickly build sumthin to prevent themselves from falling? or would it not let them? or could you technically Drive a 4x4 or motorcycle off the building while its crumbling from beneath?
I am unsure, but once a foundation has been removed and a block is going to fall, then I don't think you can put anything under it.
You could easily drive a vehicle off it. The blocks can be walked on, so they exist. The problem is an area that you can drive on. Soon, there is no roof to drive on.

Probably just something like floating sand blocks generated in Minecraft, too many calculations and the game doesn't realise a block has lost its support and it's just left there.
Dude the dubstep music when placing barrels was EPIC.
BTW - Anyone else experience jitter with close up objects when side-stepping? FPS is locked at 120, tried every setting and resolution in-game and in nV control panel, no difference. I've got a Ryzen9 7900X, 32GB DDR5 and an RTX4080. Should also mention I've tried Vsync at 30,60,90 and 120. My monitor won't support any others, same same.

I am just thumb sucking, but have you made sure motion blur and occlusion is off? I doubt it will help, but they are just two settings that could maybe make a difference?
@@SnowBee I very much appreciate you taking the time to answer, but yeah I've tried all settings to potato - still happens, if not worse, actually! Tried turning them all on, one by one, then turning them off, one by one. It's really barely noticeable in pancake - I don't normally mind, but in VR the effect is right in your face and causes my brain to crap itself. If I physically move or turn in my playspace, it doesn't happen - only when using the controller input. It becomes less noticeable and disappears as objects get farther away from the camera, as parallax becomes less pronounced, which is why I think it's not such a huge deal in flatscreen. Anyway, keep up the good work! I'm glad I discovered your channel :) I'll be sure to hit that sub button next time I catch one of your vids!

I tore the ham radio building down manually because I wanted a nicer view from my base, only there is a glitch that anything you tear down looks like it is still there if you are any distance from it at all. I was so disappointed.
Alpha 20 was supposed to fix that. So you can view your base and changes from afar. I have also noticed stuff doesn't render at times, only when you get close.
It would be interesting to see the structural integrity of the tower while it fell down. Great video snowbee.

So there are a bunch of props and furniture that are not calculated for support. Interesting.
If you just make tunnels under the foundation and then put explosives in them you can bring it down with far fewer explosives

I may as well just remove some wall supports then, or a few strategic walls. What I wanted was a non altered building and destroy the bottom floor from there. However, what you said is correct, even to the point that I could have used fewer explosives overall. I went pretty much overboard.
I dug around it 2 blocks out and then cleared the layer under it effectively removing the ground it was built on. When my PC stopped freaking out there was just a pile of rubble in a hole and one friggin zombie looking at me like "what the hell dude?"
Looks like a lot of the new assets weren't implemented properly, as that's a lot of what's floating up there.

Haha, well, I have three mods I am currently playing... so little time. I really enjoy doing the "what is" mod videos and guides. Someone asked me if I was covering the new District Zero mod... I said yes, but I am also doing Sorcery and redoing darkness falls. Sigh, really is so little time.

I love all the skyscraper toppling vids that the content creators have produced over the years and your success for A21 is commendable. The only thing I would have done different would have been to place that most vile of heretics, the Nurgle-worshipping Traitorus Rekt[um], in the center of the 1st-floor lobby. đ

I think as long as you can take out the vultures... yes, I think you could. Doubt the zombies would get to you. Maybe the cops could spit, but unlikely that far.

Haha. During my first two playthroughs with a few others, we were getting bored, and so kept on actively manufacturing screamers. This would have been perfect :)
I forgot what t5 or 6 POI that was where the building is toppled and confusing as hell, been playing for a week now and it's the only one I actually quit.
It could be Shameway, Dishong tower or maybe the Shotgun factory... I consider them all a bit confusing. However, having done Dishong a few times, it is okay for me now.

I want to know if anyone has tested if a clear quest can be complete by destroying the poi. I would expect the quest to require you to activate ALL the sleepers in order to clear it.
yeah, you would likely need to go into god mod and roam around triggering them. If you noticed at the end, those sleepers only spawned when I happened to go past them.
ive noticed there are some gates that have 30000 hp now in alpha 21... i wonder if we can build them? also... are these exploding barrels now available in survival mode or only in creative? what would be the best way to explode a building without cheating? rockets? dynamite? mines?

Dynamite I think starts to despawn if you use too many sticks. I think... I did play with it initially and I think that was one thing I picked up. I wonder why they removed the barrels as they were there in old alphas.

When a youtuber said, that the game might not look so good looking ingame (Alpha 21), i really was disappointed. But holy.. if you play it yourself, it's really unrecognizable.

I tried this with an pic axe took the hole of the first blocks out and iv only got about 1/4 of the building to come down the rest is standing and floating wtf

Yes, though I didn't want to do any work that would make the job easier for the explosives. Other content creators mainly did not remove stuff in the past or make it easier. Otherwise, you are correct, removing some of the foundations would have done some of the work the explosives should be doing.

No info about darkness falls 21 alpha?
Yes, it will likely go into experimental later this month, but stable only next month at the earliest.
A vote was taken by the patreons and most people voted for waiting until Alpha 21.1. This is due to 21.0 being a huge Multiplayer mess and with various bugs that haven't been sorted out, Khaine wanted to leave it until vanilla was more stable.
Reward for that job will be 500 duckes and level 2 iron shovel

next thing to do is go only up through the debris
Probably need 2 or 3 stages of explosions so it can blow out the rubble that piles up and resets the foundation.
The nuke dev grenades will make a huge crater, bigger than I have seen. I tested it yesterday, and it works well. Just need to drop them fast enough around the building and inside, before they start to auto vanish. Then, set them off, and the train reaction will leave a massive crater.

You get more FPS when building collapsing than I do with jsut walking thru city. 3080ti afterall...

I played on a server many years ago, forgot what it was called. But me and 3 other friends all had the same quest to kill all zombies. I chipped in why not just destroy the building and let it collapse, it should kill all the zombies. While I wasn't wrong, what I didn't know is it wasn't allowed to happen. You 100% would get banned for doing that. Luckily no one got banned but I got tormented for months by one of the mods. They would be invis and use the robo sledge to knock me down at random times. Horde night or not, just bam....knocked down. 10/10 would do it again.

If I recall, when you drop dynamite, it vanishes within time. So you can't put 100 sticks of dynamite down, or you could, but within a minute or two the sticks will start vanishing. I need to test that again... but they don't look as good as 3000+ exploding barrels :)
@@SnowBee Oh use the barrels no problem but I was thinking you would set off the barrels with it. Maybe like sprinkling 7 dynamite around the center then lobbing one in from the outside was kind of my idea.
This just gave me an insane idea lol about to get some friends and blow up the tower then have them go down the tower while it collapses, First one to reach ground floor with the least amount of damage winsđ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł Or just use the floating furniture to make it more difficult lol

That is certainly an idea. The way down is quite easy, but if you do throw in the "less damage" bit, I think that could work. Also keep AI on.

I found a better solution ;) in creative mode there is a "dev Grenade" and you need to throw like ten of them to the ground and you need to arm the last one to let the others explode like a chain reaction and you will get a massive explosion! :D
Yes, initially I didn't think it would be possible, as the dev grenades start to vanish within about 2 minutes after placing them. However, the draw back is the dev grenades don't look as good as a red/white band around Dishong :)
@@SnowBee Yeah đmaybe you could use the red barrels and place them around to get the decoration. i'm just kidding ^^ đ€Ł A mate and me bombed the whole neighborhood from another mate, just to prank him if he come back online đ đ€ŁIt was so laggy and my 5600x needed about 30-45 seconds to compensate the whole explosions from the grenades đ It felt like the scenery of the moon! đ€Ł

I do this all the time with dynamite. I never lagged blowing this up.
It depends on how much explosive you use at the same time.

Yes, I didn't say anything about it, but if you take a look at my frames at the end, at times they are double to what I had at the start. Zero Dishong Tower = better frames :)

But it doesn't look as good, so that would be the main problem I have with them. Nuke grenades are pretty powerful, but far from what you are thinking. I would need many, many of them to destroy the bottom floor, mainly as their radius is so low.
If you think dumping them all around the POI will help, then unfortunately they vanish over time. So within about 2 minutes, the first one you put down will disappear. So, I would have to go with a piece by piece explosion. Which does not work for what I was trying to accomplish. Still, thanks for the suggestion. :)

I want to make a second comment on the dev grenade. If you are faster enough, you could get around the whole building on the outside dropping grenades, and maybe a couple inside. Then if you are fast enough before the first ones started vanishing, you could set off a train reaction. Hmm, that could work.

Yeah, it is better, and I do not see it getting any better. I mean, for the building to come down correctly, I am guessing they would have to rewrite the game. Not just a few optimisation changes here and there. :(
@@SnowBee Well sure, any other company would be doing like a third part of the game by now, on a third engine... They are so slow in the progress, and some of the changes were not even good, so what is really the point of prolonging early access and releasing more alphas? At this point they are just messing up the mods.

Yes, they are. I should have mentioned that, but I only did that after, I think a day or so later. I also took the dev terrain remover gun and used that to knock out rubble underneath... it also didn't make a difference. Finally I started shooting stuff and blasting it that way, but it didn't fall naturally.

I remember an a20 bug where parts of the building were completely missing. Made it hard to complete some quests. POI looked fine in the dev tools.
The residue after all was said and done is worse than in v19.. Dissapointing.
Well, the overall experience for me is better, by a long shot. Looks better and falls apart better. Frames recovered much better as well. Still, the whole time it still takes is quite similar, so no real changes. Unfortunately, I don't think we will ever have any changes on that.

@@SnowBee Love the game and all but just the destruction part of it, imho terrible. Id rather not have destruction, than have this but now that performance is better with it and i still have choice not to cause to much destruction, don't really care either.
