- The past is one weird and wacky place. In the age before smart-
phones, grandma and grandpa had to use their imaginations to have
fun, and they were doing some mindblowing stuff back then. We’ve got
the clips to prove it, so let’s head right into the bizarre olden times!

The thumbnail teases an image that never showed up in the video. Care to explain why it didn't?
Yes, false thumbnails totally piss me off! I’ll remember this channel as using false thumbnails. I think they did have some decent videos & I would have probably watched if they had used a photo that was in the video 🤷🏼♀️ ✌🏼
Most YTers do it.
Thanks for posting your comment. I award automatic "thumb's down" to channels that do that, I don't watch the video through and I will block the channel from future recommendations if it happens again. It takes me a little while to check for comments such as yours and then write a thank you; but that is less time than I would have wasted to watch the full video only to end up pissed-off!
I hate that! For real I refuse to use that technique
@@blahblahblahblah6919 Wrong. Most CZcamsrs use authentic thumbnails.
Baby bouncers were great. We had a very old one for our children. Your child sat in it far enough they couldn’t fall out. You hooked the top of it to a door way. Not only did the babies like it because it would move up and down as long as the baby kicked their feet on the floor. It also helped them strengthen their legs and I believe helped them walk earlier. It didn’t take long for them to learn that pushing down on their legs had them bobbing up and down.
I had one for my baby too. It was called the "Jolly Jumper."
Totally agreed they were great
That is so cute. ;)
I had them for all four of my children and they were wonderful.
Johnny jumper
The Johnny Jump Up. Such a great way for babies to exercise their little legs !
Great fun learning to walk. I had one, my kids had one. Anyone can use it, if they have a doorway.
Nice video.
With Love ❤
In 1973 I had my son. I bought a baby bouncer and it was a huge success. I credit it with giving him strong legs and balance. So much so that when he was less than a year old he was walking confidently.
As most people know by now, Ronald McDonald was not fully human, but rather had descended from an evolutionary bottleneck known as McDonaldopithecus Ronaldiensis, whose clown bones were found to have undergone reverse fossilisation, turning into wood instead of stone. The double-arch petroglyph was always found in close proximity to Ronaldiensis burial chambers, and archaeologists now believe that the clown garb was actually the ceremonial costume of the high priest, not necessarily that of all Ronaldiensis cohorts. Linguists have also confirmed that the word "restaurant" goes back to pre-proto-Amharic meaning Res (thing) Taur (of the bull, as in Taurus) Ant (before, prior to) which loosely translates to "where's the beef?"
Now That Explains A Lot.. LOL Bravo !!
lol. Thank you so much for that explanation!!! I wish I had possessed such creativity when I was in grad school!
I adore this comment! I just picture watching Josh Gates on an episode of Expedition Unknown, going on an adventure to discover the fabled ruins where the high priest McDonald led his people in worship. 😂
those jonny jump ups were great! keep the kid occupied, active and happy without the worry of him/her they falling over and getting hurt . think of a safe trampoline. I wish they were still around and also came in adult versions
They do; it’s those giant slingshot things you see at the mall, that pre-teens tend to get on and try flips. You could buy one for the house.
They are still around.
Not exactly accurate as stated, you made a mistake. The Network's switch over to Color TV didn't happen like that. Sure the Station may have switched over to color TV, but if your parents hadn't bought an actual (New on the market) "Color TV", you didn't see or notice the switch. A black & White TV showed only Black & White, despite what was being sent from the station. You had to be watching on an actual Color TV set to see it in color, if the station wasn't broadcasting in Color, the Color TV wouldn't display 'the programming', in color.
It is just amazing to see how far was have come throughout the ages. I enjoyed this video, thank you so much! Please keep the count down vids coming!
7:15 😂🎉❤
All I wanted was someone to explain the thumbnail. Now I don’t trust any of your videos
So if they had come that far with making a UFO, I’m guessing they have one that would make us believe that there’s ufo’s and real life aliens among us?! Don’t you think so? Because this was almost 100 years ago.
I think the man that invented the helmet was not only protecting his head he was protecting that glorious mane of hair!
Right! He looks like he is from the future with that hairstyle 😂
The 5th wheel parallel parking idea is a GREAT idea... I just don't think enough people knew how that PRESTINE 5th wheel EORKED
But if you need a 5th wheel to park in "the tight space".... and the cars in front and back DON'T have a 5th wheel, they may get boxed in....
Even so, it's possible to wriggle out of only 1/2 inch clearance with enough "back and forth"... but that is with a modern suspension and power steering.
But STILL, I totally agree with you... Trying to parallel park on a busy street is nerve-wracking... It would be so much better to go "head in" first and then "5th-wheel" the back in after.
Very interesting indeed. Loved it. You are a great narrator as well.
The baby cage is used today; it’s called a balcony. There are many old buildings, converted into condos, that have balconies added. Using suspension and giant L brackets. I think the baby cage would have been cool, if installed properly. A balcony for babies.
I think it'd make a nice little catio, for tenants who have kitties.😸
That thumbnail is crazy 💀💀

The baby bouncer is still around, well in 2003 they were because my daughter Amelia had one, she absolutely loved it, I’ve looked them up and they are still available but are either baby bouncy jumper or door frame baby bouncer… you can buy them from new from £15.00 upwards happy shopping xx
I love this video! Pretty fun format
The statue of Liberty wasn't built as a way to bring the french and Americans together. It was built for Egypt but they didn't want it.
Yep that's a fact. We came in second place for the statue of liberty. We got it thru Egypts refusal of it.I don't know what it would have stood for there but for us it was some bullshit story about your weak and hungry masses or something. It sat in a warehouse for years till enough money was raised to build the pedestal it stands on. A lot of Americans don't know this story
Where on Earth did you come across THAT one? As it is, most don't know "Lady Liberty" is her title. Her name is "Columbia" which is where the old logo for Columbia Movies ..
@@MaStorm529 Bartholdis designs for the statue were of a Muslim peasant woman. It was set to stand at a harbor of the Suez canal. It was titled " Egypt carrying the light to Asia". After a debate, it was decided that the project would be too expensive. So he set out to find a country that would help finance his statue. The USA was coming off the civil war so he came up with the Roman goddess Libertas meaning Liberty . He got the french government involved with the " your a free country so take the sick, poor, countryless and so forth. They would pay for everything except the foundation pedestal it would stand on. The people of France did , not the Gov. Same in America with the pedestal. She was christened " Liberty Enlightens the World"
I'd have to see proof.I also find it hard to believe that Egypt would have turned the statue down!
Also, The French Revolution followed on the heels of the American Revolution, we were Bonne Hohmie, Freres de Revolution!Vive La Merica! Vive la😅 France!
@@user-pk8fs6dj8e How/ Why would I make this up ?? Go to Wikipedia and type in Statue of liberty and Egypt. I know it sounds unbelievable but you'll see it for yourself. Histories weird sometimes and your not always privy to the facts, I was a little taken aback by this little nugget my damn self.
Finally...i know the person that give me effected voice to wacthed those all videos..thank u so much bro...🥳
*It's Good to see that ALIEN-Mascot 👽 back!*
Where's the thumbnail?!!?
Right? it's a bit clickbaity if they didn't show it.
@@DiaryOfALesbianGamer what's up with that guy sitting? there with his back all flayed open !! I would have loved to have found out the back ( haha) back story to what the hell's going on there !?!
@@GregoryP-jw8qjor the guys who were supposedly holding their junk in their hands, like what in the world is going on there?!?!
@@GregoryP-jw8qj I saw that same photo and its description years ago, on the internet somewhere. Its description said that it was a robot that was regularly used at one time, at a permanent show or event of some kind that was at the world's first Disneyland, which is located in California. It and its event were discontinued, many years ago.
At least, that's what that website claimed about it.
My babies enjoyed their Johnny Jump Up! It also strengthened their legs, and they both were early walkers. They were active, but safely in one place. Cool thing that...👍🏽💯🌹
A few of those old “exercise” machines were still in use in fitness gyms in the mid to late 60s, when I worked at one as an exercise instructor. The belt that jiggles and the wooden rollers for the thighs were being used regularly. I had to coax women off them with calisthenics classes, and convince pregnant women not to use the belts.🖤🇨🇦
I liked some of the machines. Felt good.
@@quiltgalsews Yeah, they felt good, but didn’t really do much else.🖤🇨🇦
Don’t trust the initial picture of the clip shown
The Model T and the car catcher caught my attention. My dad was born in 1919 and when he was small, he ran in the street and got hit by the crank on the front of the Model T. It threw him under the car that THANK GOD just ran right over him because they sat up so high he wasn't hurt. This was a joy to watch, Thank you
I think you can thank John Wayne Gacy and Stephen King in large part for bringing down clowns. The difference between American teens, with the yo-yo and swallowing live gold fish, and the Russian emphases on science, it was no wonder we turned to fascination with political and social revolution.
My nephew had a ball bouncing around in his Baby Bouncer back in the early 1970’s. My sister would hang it up in a doorway and he would just be jumping up and down like crazy.
Highly educational. Shows where an idea evolve from something simple to complex in periods of time. 😮😊
Funny how normal things seem weird to those who know nothing and are amazed at everything😊
That avrocar might have been the precursor to the military’s LCAC. LCAC is a high speed beach landing craft, designed to do beach landing, with the capability to go further onto land if necessary; think D-Day and the blood bath of getting stuck on the beach. It’s amazing to watch those craft at work.
Hold up now, my daughter was born in 1995 and i had a baby bouncer for her. We hung it in the door way, put her in it and she was perfectly fine
They still have them.
@@blahblahblahblah6919 they are actually a good invention
That baby cage is needed to save lives. Do you know how many babies & children have crawled out their high rise apartment windows without the parent initially knowing, some have been rescued & some have fallen, I think the baby cage would be a good safety precaution.
I love baby bouncers it’s so fun watching them jump and giggle
I had what we called a Jumpin Jimmy when my son was a baby. It had a tray on it and hooked to any doorway. He absolutely lived it and would get upset when we took him out of it. It helped strengthen babies legs, which my son did not nee. He would jump for hours in that thing. He LOVED LOVED LOVED IT!
Well it wasn't exactly like your black and white TV was now color. You had to have a color TV FIRST. They started broadcasting in color but most people still only had Black and White TV's as color TV was very expensive. Don't prove to be a dope when you don't know what you're talking about.
Eh, baby bouncers are still around and still awesome for babies
I just commented about this because I hadn't seen yours. Born in 84 and I definitely had one.
16:35 It probably would have been even more impactful , except 90% of the viewers still had black-and-white TVs. We didn't have a color TV until 1978.
Clowns reached their zenith of creepiness after John Wayne Gacy was revealed to have portrayed a clown for the kiddies prior to stuffing his crawlspace with beefcakes.
Don't they still have the baby bouncer, at least my kids did when they were little..
We still have them tho the modern ones are far different. However you can still find the vintage ones if you know where to look
@ashiepoohme My son and daughter where raise using them in the kitchen doorway so mom can keep them busy and in eyeshot.
My nephew loved his "Johnny-jump-up" , nieces not so much.
I loved mine! 👶
Yes they have them. I used them with my kids n when I babysat
Trivia. The statue of liberty was inspired by a sculpture made by Pio Fedi in 1870 and still kept in the Basilica of the Holy Cross, Florence.
There were attempts at winged flight in the Middle Ages. See 'John Danian' at Stirling Castle for one.
Bro had us wity that thumbnail 💀🙏
GREAT VIDEO ! Did you know 2 babies fell out of those Cages n the same cop cought both babies on two different days Crazy Right ??
Babies actually climbed out of open windows, not the cages. They were quite sturdy
That is an interesting story about contacts.
Love every invention the power of the mind. They were ahead of their time but we are behind time, we are way behind in our achievements
This was a fun video! A little different, which i enjoyed.
ETA i don't know if it's still a thing, but i was born in 84 and i had a bouncy swing. Do they not have those anymore?
Yes, they still have them.
In 1973, I bought a "Johnny Jump Up" for my daughter, which resembled the cloth seat of a walker with springs. She enjoyed bouncing in it until she realized it wasn't as enjoyable to do so by herself. Her interest quickly diminished, and within a few weeks, she had moved on. Indeed, babies are often more perceptive than we realize.
All 3 of my children loved their baby bouncer when they were babies back in the late 90's and early 2000's
And my mum used a baby bouncer with myself and my brother back in the 70's
They really are good for developing strong leg's and does help when it comes to walking in my opinion, all 3 of mine were more or less walking by 10 months
It`s still amaze me that will all the FACTS available via the internet, Henry Ford is still credited with inventing the assembly line in 1913 , Ford did not invent the assembly line. The first automobile maker to use assembly line technology was Ransom Olds and the Oldsmobile brand in 1901. "You can trace back rudimentary versions of assembly machines to the early 1100s. This was used by the Venetian Arsenal, which used the assembly machine to help create their boats. Ships we floated down a canal where workers would add to the construction as the ship passed. The techniques changed and improved through the 16th century. Historians states, that at the height of production, roughly 16,000 people were employed on one assembly line, and that they could create a boat in one day." Henry Ford invented nothing , just like Elon Musk .
Right on all points, now if only we could face the same truth about Thomas Edison stealing from Tesla.
"Right on The Ole Bean" Fuggin Halarious !!!
4:36’one of my favorites, and wishing I had one, or two.
I remember the vibrating belts for weight loss! They stimulated the nerve endings in your abdomen so much, it itched for a week!
*I liked it a lot Better when you make Countdown-videos like this that you do before*
*MORE-SO...*
*than making those Criminal Cases-videos that which noticeably everyone else is doing. Just be "Yourself."*
If there is space problem, the obvious solution would be a miniature bike for dwarfs, instead of a folding one... Wise thinking! 😂
Would have loved to live 100 years ago. Economy and country is purposely being destroyed right now.......very sad
Amazing videos 😊 i loved the popaye's part
*The Statue of Liberty was constructed on ELLIS ISLAND, not Liberty Island!*
That was a blast 💥 through the past
MY MOM HAD A JOHNNY JUMPER! JUST LIKE THAT! THANK GOD FOR THE BABY SWING! GREAT BABYSITTER FOR BUSY MOMZ👍👍🥀
When did roller skates come in be easier then a bike in your pocket lol
The assembly line shot made me laughter. I have a set of head lights, tail lights and brackets for sale right now. They are called Y Brackets. Brass from a 1929 model T, the kind they started making into hot rods in the 1950s. Originally the driver had to light the kerosene for the lights to shine. The hand blown glass is hinged for that purpose. Fluted glass that's has scrolling done by hand as well thatsays ford. They cost more today( $1500. For the set) than the whole car sold for brand new back in the day.
Yes, but the US Dollar has also lost about 99% of its value since 1929.
I was just a little to large to use the baby bouncer, but my sisters and my cousins all go to spend time in them.
OMG! I actually stood in one of those bottom pounding exercise machines when I was young.
i love your comments and made me laugh and think great job.
After the Avrocar (7:24) failed, the hangar was taken over by deHavilland Canada, where I worked for twenty years.
Love the General Grievous bike - would be great if Elon or somebody would make a modern version!
Love the fifth wheel car
0:36 - So now we know the Statue Of Liberty is actually Elvis Presley in a dress.
4:29 Hamster wheel? No! That's General Grievous's wheel bike! 😉
Only in the banner. 🤣🤣Irish swimming lessons
28 years ago, you could still buy baby bouncers and my son had one, in the frame of the kitchen door so he could sit there while I cooked. Though, it didn't look like the ones in the video.
The bouncy baby is actually called "jonny jumper" and i still have one that we used for our kids and now my grandkids! Its such a great thing! Lol. Instead of leaving the baby in a playpen, or sitting stationary in a walker, the baby is in a swing type thing that is awesome for when active babies need to burn energy, bcz they use their own legs to make them jump or swing, vs us pushing or bouncing them! One of my nephews was so hyper active, it was his favorite thing to be in bcz he felt independent and could play as long as he wanted! Poor little guy would get bloody toes from how aggressive he got in that thing! Lol. We made sure he had shoes on at all times when he was in it bcz there was no slowing him down. Lol. Todays kids dont really know what they, but i think its something more people should be using still! 👌
"JoLLy Jumper", not JoNNy Jumper". Don't argue: just Google it.
I hired one for my bub. It was a ‘Jolly Jumper’.
@@GoodieWhiteHat thats awesome! They are really great to have!
interesting....some amazing inventions
2:00 so being the 5th wheel on a car was actually really useful during that time. ;)
There are many concepts from the past since lost in time that we may want to consider bringing back or fine-tuning. But as far as living in the past? Nah, I think I'm okay here...
Wow with the "Avrocar", nevermind the GIANT that walked in and sat down in the lab with the other guy... 😳
Fords idea was, you only had to train each man on the line to do One job, instead of Every job, he was tighter than a Ducks arse, so each man only learned One job, training was down to One day as apposed to weeks, he also had the engines delivered in boxs that had holes cut in a certain way, when the box was empty, it would be taken apart & used for the floor of the car, & the peddels would fit where the Cut Outs were.
Not daft was old Henry.
The baby cage I can get with that. As long as it's sturdy enough to hold the baby you might have to use smaller hose for the fence like maybe chicken wire. Nothing where they can slip anything out easy or get their hands stuck in it. I can go with the baby cage when the kid is up high like that. Long as it's safe and sturdy, I think that's a cool idea. Nothing can get into him and he can't get out
That invention could have saved my grandfather's life. He was hit by a car retrieving it from the street mailbox and was killed.
People were stronger back then😊
My kids love the baby bouncer ❤
The baby cage- Today, you will be arrested for child abuse.
Mostly because there was no fresh air in London, then. You can see the filth in the vid.

I find it funny that nobody has linked "cosplay" with the "SCA" (Society for creative anacronyms). same thing except the SCA reenacts historical events and cosplay reenacts video games and cartoons.
So that's where Southpark get the "It" from
My kids had one of those baby bouncers it was called a jolly jumper 😂
Those machines in "women's gyms" displayed well in the 1939 original movie " The Women" worked great to eliminate cellulite. The movie has had two remakes. Make sure you see the original.
Baby bouncers are still for sale.
It's sad that the old film footage was ruined by being altered. Not much here is really surprising or unexpected.
"Unsuspecting jaywalker" when cars back then rarely went over 24 mph
Not gonna lie that 5 wheel tactic was genius in cars.
I’m 43 years young and I remember seeing the workout band that would go around ur waist or buttocks and vibrate your fat off if you think about it whenever ur running u feel like itchy or something all around ur fat parts of body cause ur were working the fat and lose weight and that’s exactly what the vibrating fat belt machine would do
I’m 48 and loved mine. My sister was born in ‘65 and loved hers🥰😄
The kids had no choice but to build robots for the state. They would have been immediately shipped to the gulag if they asked to play outside.
I don’t understand why so many people find clowns scary
cuz John Wayne Gacy...?
@@anonymous-zk3miI'm sure he definitely helped.. LOL.
@susanbobo5098. It's just like any other phobia to be honest. Are you afraid of spiders, heights, snakes, the dark Etc.? People that aren't afraid of the things could ask you the same question . What are you afraid of ? Serious question, think about the things that Overly Scare and Frighten you then ask yourself Why do I feel like that way about it. Phobias can come down to a past traumatic experience or a built in mechanism from our ancestors.
Next time you see a clown in a public situation, observe the children around him (her). Some are kinda cowering away and some will burst out crying... Sometimes their peers will notice this and see it as a weakness, using it as a method to tease the poor kid. The fear remains throughout the victim's life. I've seen the same thing with kids and Santa Claus...Only repeated lies about the "good" that Santa does will erase their evolving fear...Clown victims never get that positive feedback about their nemesis.

We finallly got a color tv for the moon landing. I am not sure that was even in color?
The statue of liberty is really the statue of Ishtar....
the reason the 5th wheel didn't catch on was because back then people actually knew how to drive and parallel park. they took it as an insult so it never got off the ground. they need to bring it back because these kids now couldn't drive if you strapped that wheel to their ass as their phone would get in the way.
