Hello my friends! in this video we will control the Hello my friends! in this video we will control the ceiling fan speed, we will build a four speeds regulator, and control it using CADIO platform, this feature is now natively supported, so we will do the job without writing any code.
For the hardware, we need Three relays connected with the ESP.
Two polypropylene capacitors, the smaller capacitor is 2.2 micros, and the larger one is 3.3.
Also four resistors, connected with the capacitors to make two RC circuits.
The small capacitor circuit is connected to the first relay.
The large capacitor to the second relay.
And the third relay is connected directly to the fan, and to the other side of the two RC circuits.
Then the AC hot wire is connected to the three relay's common pin.
And the neutral to the fan.
For the manual control, we will need two pushbuttons connected to the ESP, for increasing and decreasing the fan speed.
Now in the info file devices table, we add a new fan device.
Then in the fan speed regulator table, we select the GPIOs for the small and the large capacitor relays, and the direct relay, and the two pushbuttons.
The fan device appears in the application Interface with a ceiling fan icon, and when we enter the device page, we can see that we have a slider to control the fan speed.
When the fan is off, the three relays are off.
And at the first speed, the first relay is on.
With the second speed, the second relay is activated.
At the third speed, both of the first and the second relays are on.
And with the maximum speed, the third relay is activated, and this is exactly what we want.
We can also use the pushbuttons for the manual control, to increase or decrease the speed.
Now with our circuit connected to the fan, we can test it!
At the first speed, the small capacitor is limiting the current too much.
Now with the second speed, the large capacitor is passing more current.
In the third speed, the two capacitors are now working in parallel, and passing more and more current to the fan.
And with the maximum speed, the fan is now connected directly and finally takes all the current it needs.

Why can’t we use the devices added to alexa as triggers for routines? Also it would be really nice if IR can transmit a different code based on the receiver code. E.g received code is samsung vol +/- and transmitted code from esp is NEC or some other brand vol +/-. Would really appreciate the help and would love buy the license as it will make me able to repurpose the old ir remotes to control wifi/zigbee smart devices. Thanks for the amazing product.

Hello, this is an awesome project, I just want to ask that instead of push buttons how can we use the fan speed regulator? If it is possible then can you do a video on that ??
We are using the pushbuttons because we are looking for complete synchronization between the app and the manual switches,
For example, when using the 4 steps rotary fan regular, if we set the speed manually from the rotary switch to 4, then from the app to speed 1, the result will be a fan spinning with speed 1 and the switch on speed 4, we tried to avoid this with the two pushbuttons.
Another benefit is the two pushbuttons are using two GPIOs, while the 4 speed rotary switch is using four GPIOs, so we are saving two GPIOs by using the pushbuttons.

I love this project.but I hade trouble for fan speed control. Because, here all are using regulator type. I'm searching auto reset 2 way switch for switch board. But my bad luck I can't find that. My parents are comfortable with using the regulator. So will you turn the fan speed control push button into a regulator .

You need an external MCU
Google home doesn't recognise Cadio fan as speed changeable device it only shows as switch
And in Alexa it is detected as dimmable led so you have to say change the brightness instead of change the speed

We highly recommend using the esp flash download tool by espressif and flashing it using a pc.

What is the problem with capacitors?
For fan speed controling two main features missing. First one is manual switch for On /Off the fan. Second one is controlling fan speed via IR/RF Remote 🤔😞. Waiting for the update firmware

No this is for AC fan, but you can use the "dimmer" device instead with DC fan, I did it with 12v fan at the end of this video:

What's that mean?
It means you have to format the esp board with some flashing software or Android app. Then you just repeat installing cadio firmware again and you will be able to get 500 hours again

For config button instead on off holding mcu board button can we try (on off )switch continuously 10-12 times the config mode will turn on
Yes it's already supported.
If you use (press) switches mode, you can choose (hold any press switch) option in the config button table, so you don't need a config button anymore, and holding any switch for 5 seconds will activate the config mode.

The unit will never lose the permanent license is under any circumstances, even if you erase the firmware and reinstall it, the unit will automatically restore the permanent license once it connected to the internet
