      The other problem and why he has stayed so long, is the FA have no succession plan. The whole set up is not designed for England to win a tournament. If England won it would be a miracle, considering the unprofessional way of doing things.

    • @BurnsTennis
      @BurnsTennis Pƙed dnem

      @@user-zs2ug8no1c The only solution is for the future, to start making succession plans where possible. We have a different set up over here. France have a history of promoting coaches within their set up to manage the French team. Aime Jacquet in the 1990s, then Roger Lemerre in the 2000s. More recently Deschamp. These are not big name managers, would not get big jobs at club level. But it works, because they either win tournaments or get to finals in the last 25 years.
      Now, for the first time we did that with Southgate after the Allardyce fiasco.
      Let's remember, Southgate was picking young players he knew from the Under 21 set up for the national team, then clubs started picking these players realising they had something to offer.
      But the FA don't seem to have anyone lined up to succeed Southgate.
      We do things different over here, it is difficult to adopt a French style system to be successful.
      Under the circumstances, a good solution would be to offer Eddie Howe the job, then identify a young English manager and groom him for the national job, whilst Howe is in position.
      Southgate was not a big name but won more matches than other previous England coaches. So there might be something to be said about maintaining that approach but actually going all the way and continuing that approach.
      Instead of bringing in some famous manager from club level which is a risk when it comes to team unity etc etc.

    Southgates record is MISLEADING.
    All other managers had more losses because they were constantly playing WORLD CLASS TEAMS.
    Southgate has played 98% of his games against WEAKER TEAMS.
    And when he has played against a HALF DECENT TEAM, he ALWAYS, ALWAYS LOOSES.

      Dumbest thing I've heard in a while...if it was about what is best for England then rashford would definitely be at the euros...only one player in the current squad has more goals for England (Harry Kane) . Infact I am fairly certain that if you add all the goals of the current squad apart from Kane it would not be more than rashford's tally. England are screaming out for players who can actually play lw, get in behind and score...he brought Gordon and Eze and left out Rashford only to bench eze and Gordon. Rashford also has more goals in competitive matches than the whole rest of the squad combined. Scored the goal that qualified England for this tournament only to have Southgate stab him in the back.

    I think it was more the players failing than the manager, in the lost WC semifinal and the previous EC final. Ultimately it's the player execution, for the majority of times. The manager can take a team up to a point and then they need to perform and execute. Easier to speak and analyze from the outside, although anybody can do it.

      The players didn't all tell themselves to park the bus 2 minutes into the game cause they scored 1 goal, the players didn't tell southgate to use his first sub 100 minutes into the game, the players didn't tell him to sub on 2 more players 2 mins from the end of second half of extra time to touch the ball twice before being forced to take a penalty kick that should have never happened.
      Hes a joke and has been for 8 years, 3 easy tournament runs and he still can't figure out how to make a substitute to win.

      @@xenoborg007 I think most of the players are slightly overrated and also they can have bad patches. Cohesion is not an easy thing to achieve. And really, I don't think GS tells them to park the bus. Tournament football is about being strong in defense too. I don't know, I just don't buy these arguments that it's the manager's fault, or that it's the manager only and he did not win anything. And a manager is always a team, not one guy. I think that, unfortunately, you might be in the same place as before, with cliques in the team and even with highly rated players, cohesion and fluency is hard to achieve.

      @user-xi3mj3mx4j Pƙed 2 dny

      Sorry but that's not true.
      All 11 players do not suddenly STOP attacking and park the bus.
      Playing defensive has NOTHING to do with suddenly stopping and just giving the opposition the ball for 80 minutes.
      No team are STUPID enough to All Do that.
      Especially when you have the opposition on the ropes and they are getting wound up and look like getting a yellow card.
      Only the manager can make those decisions.
      But let's say your correct and the manager never said park the bus . . . . .
      Do you honestly think if they players decided to just park the bus against the managers orders, that a manager like Pep, Klopp, Fergusson, Wenger etc, would simply accept it like Southgate does????
      You know FULL WELL they would be screaming at the players to do what's been told to them, and at half time they would get read the riot act if they ignored him and would suffer the consequences.
      We ALL KNOW THAT.
      So if the players ARE pRking the bus themselves and not following the managers orders, it means they do not respect him or entertain him.
      Meaning he is WEAK, AND USLESS and has NO CONTROL over his players. And that IS HIS FAULT for being soft as shite on them so they see him as usless.
      So EITHERWAY the performance or lack of one IS DOWN TO SOUTHGATE đŸŽ€đŸ€Ż.

    • @kleskcz
      @kleskcz Pƙed 2 dny

      @@user-xi3mj3mx4j Hard to speculate on all your points, because we just don't know what happens in the locker room and what instructions are given.
      For the part about being defensive, maybe it's natural to protect an advantage when you have it, and when you are down one, to try to advance slowly rather than expose fast. Not sure what is the balance here. With Slovakia it was not that good, it was relatively easy to defend. It can be that, for example, 'control the ball more' can be a slide or can be perceived as a defensive approach, where control can be understood as do not be offensive and do not take risks. Not easy on the eye but it's a different thing than stop playing.
      And how you implement on the field is on the players.
      For the part about the coaches, I actually prefer a coach that is more reserved, Ancelotti comes to mind. But I think that there's positives with a more energetic coach too. Not that animated like Arteta, not to my linking, but generally to mobilize a team in certain moments, maybe you need a level of animation.
      For GS, changing in-game is not his best historically, but he kept Bellingham and Kane on with Slovakia.
      I think that some of his picks have been questionable, in terms of the people that are part of the squad, but still it is a good squad, if you look individually. Talent wise, comparable with the other favorites, but as a team, not better than France, and perhaps others. I feel like, the highest rated English players have some circumstances in their clubs, that favor them so they are a little bit overrated, and those conditions may not be present in the national team. Bellingham in Real, Foden in City, Saka even, they are surrounded by very good players but of other nationalities, so it is hard to re-create the same environment in the national team. And that raises the expectations a bit. And Kane, well, not all teams are Bochum or Darmstadt.
      I was thinking about a bottom line and that would be that along the lines of ... you're already in the tournament and so the best could be to just get behind the team, including the coaching team, and hope the players do well. And for me, only the players can get this through, I think they should be criticized more, not the coaching team. Or at least the discourse should be balanced.
      I also see no reason for GS not to continue if England get to the final. And yes, he is paid even more than Deschamps, but it's not his fault.
