- Chatting with strangers online has become no big deal since the explosion of social media sites like Facebook and Twitter, but when the internet was in its infancy, chat rooms were something new people hadn't experienced yet. In today's video we are going to check out the "Catfish" phenomena that is actually a pretty frightening and sad reality that comes with hiding behind a computer for your social life. Here's my true story of how I met my real catfish in real life.

The story teller could of been abducted. However, as it started with our (mine) generation, someone had to learn these, so subsequent generations know, the dangers, I recall that there was virtually no PSAs warning about not giving random people online identifying information or meeting them. Now thereâs seminars by police forces around the world doing them, about exactly this.

Never catfished, per se, but I did discover in the early days of social media that if a girl only has face shots, often at extreme angles, there's a reason.

The ending was surprisingly deep. Some people do it to be jerks, but like you said, some do it to feel valued. :-\ The 2010 documentary is actually a great example of the latter; it's hardly a surprise that she would want to fabricate a fake life that's easier and more fun than the one she had. :-(

I've been catfished before back when I was in highschool. I really was just a dumb kid that blindly ignored all the signs. Long story-short, after talking to this guy for all of my sophomore year, he finally sent me a real picture of him and his mom, because he said he "loved me" and "wanted to make it right." It was pretty devastating at the time, but I just felt sorry for the guy in the end. He definitely had a sickness inside that he needed to deal with, and luckily nothing ever happened to me outside of the embarrassment and hurt. It was pretty intense to deal with.
And I still think about you to this day...

Interesting perspective. It does seem evil and malicious in the beginning but I agree with your evaluation of the situation. It is actually a sad, tragic and all too common condition.

lately I feel like it's more common for people to,, not necessarily trust strangers first thing but to get talking to them and sharing stories and facts about yourself; building a friendship basically but without the worry of it being some creep

I remember playing gta 4 online when it first came out on xbox 360 and my dad was soooooo fascinated at the fact that i just killed someone else playing the same game from their house in another country.

I've had several in-person meetings with people I have met online, and thankfully haven't been catfished. I'm thankful that the incident portrayed in this video turned out not to have gone as bad as it easily could have though.

That catfishing story of the woman that catfished you, that unfulfilling life she mustve had or still has, from a young age i had that too and started to be a different person online than i was in real life. But someone actualy helped me and gave me that little push that i needed to become that person that i really desired to be that day. I apologised to all my friends for lieing to them like that when i actualy took that first step into my new self. Now im happily engaged with my soon to be wife, were going to marry next year and things really have changed, by A LOT. And i couldnt be happier about that, telling people about that persona i faked to be being the truth now and knowing that, it just feels right. Its giving me such great satisfaction in life despite all the challenges and the depression i have to face every single day at my young age of only 20 years old.
Life is never easy but keep going. Eventually you'll find the place where you belong, and hey, if that happens to you, you should be open minded and if possible support that person. It is how i ended up finding myself, catfishing the person who now is my very best friend, the one who helped me out of all the misery and showed me the way to who i am now.

Then they didnt talk much or go deep into any topic and after a minute wanted more pics. Please dont tell me some old neckbeard jacked off to me.
AOL IM was a huge hunting ground for Perverts and ChoMos back then...That Catfish Doc along with âHow to Catch A Predatorâ put an end to that and I couldnât be more grateful since now 20+ years later I have kids of my own that I know are a lot more safer when online.... I liked the way you ended the video. It is true that people were much nicer on the Internet back then. Be it chatrooms or even cooperating in team based games, you wouldn't say things that you wouldn't say in real life. It seems these days many kids have zero sense and respect that there is a human being on the other side reading the insults.

Got catsifhed hard. Met a guy who became a mate online for over 10 years. I met a heap of girls through him over the years but never met any of them and every time I tried to meet any of them it always fell through. However i do believe when a meeting was arranged and they didnât cancel, whoever it was irl would turn up to see if i turned up as the one time I didnât, i was asked why. After a decade of broken promises I stopped caring about any of them. It took them two years to take the hint.
I like to use the Google photo search option, when ever I get random request from ppl I don't know , results are hilarious.
