Rumble in the Bronx was the very first Jackie Chan movie I saw as a 10 year-old, and this scene was my introduction to Jackie's martial arts. After this scene I became an instant fan.

Especially what he can do outside action comedy! He can sing and even in several languages! That Beijing Opera house he grew up in along with Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao had some crazy training (even though nowadays the punishments have been toned down due to dangers of abuse)!

Jackie Chan learned other kungfu styles from stuntmen and fight choreographers on movie sets. He learned just enough to look the style, not enough to teach the style. Jackie learned wooden dummy set from Leung Ting, nephew of Leung Sheung, Yip Man's first master student. Leung Ting claimed to be Yip Man's last closed door disciple. Sammo Hung learned Wing Chun from his movie partner Guy Lai, master student of Jiu Wan, who learned from Chan Yiu Mein. Chan Yiu Mein is son of Chan Wah Shun.

50+ years of thinking about how to punch, block a punch, kick,
How to run away and set yourself up in a advantageous place...
And have all the master of the world go "Wow..this guy can really do it!"
Even if he has never been in a real competition...C'mon...he can't be that bad if it is real fighting. 50 years of reflex from training would outclass a navy seal who has been training martial arts for only a few years.
Even if you beat him to the ground...the Grim Reaper would come and save him as he has over Jackie's lifetime.

I've done forms in a bunch of styles from wing chun, karate, feng shou, tai chi, taekwondo, but I tell ye, none of them are as fun as the wooden dummy form :) The skill floor is low so it doesn't take a hell of a lot to feel like an absolute master once you get used to the angles and footwork, and when you can improvise with flow, it feels reeeeal nice. Great fun, recommend to anyone who enjoys martial arts :)

The way the camera focuses/closes in slowly with the music buildup/creeping in, and different shots. Filming martial arts is so underrated.
