    Hi Eric, great videos! Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere but would you consider a video on markers, inks and colour etc. Based in the UK we don't get the same materials so we have to get approximations of what you're using. To this end some shots of the nibs would be helpful so we can find the closest match/equivalent. I'm currently using refillable Crayola markers (with the cone nib) with Windsor and Newton Ink but it's a pain the backside tbh. Thanks again for sharing your skills/experience.

      thanks Louie, I have and to be honest I purposely try to cover things I have not seen on other channels. There are a lot of good tutorials on markers,color-sticks,etc. the proko series is fantastic and very thorough.

    that's great! I love how quickly you can get vivid colors on the page with that. thank you for this.
    what is your favorite marker. I used to use designs back when i did this for a living. (15 years ago) but can't find anything like that these days.

    • @meltonart
      @meltonart  Před 7 lety +2

      Thank you. I used to use the design markers as well but unfortunately they have been discontinued. These days I use either the chartpak ad marker or a cd marking pen I found at Walmart of all places.

      @JoeDoe2 Před 7 lety +1

      Do you have the brand and model name of the pen Walmart sells that they say should be used to mark CDs?

    • @meltonart

      joe doe case mate or pen+gear. Blue and green packaging look for them in office supplies. They also sell a pack with basic colors colored markers too.

    • @JoeDoe2
      @JoeDoe2 Před 7 lety +1

      OK thanks. I'm not sure if I'm looking for 'case mate' or 'pen+gear' but I'll look for a blue and green package of one or the other and figure that's the one.

    Hi, i love your work!!! Can you explain a little bit more what you mean by"color sticks"?
    And where can i buy these Lecturer´s Chalk, I´ve never heard of them. thank you !!!!!

    • @meltonart
      @meltonart  Před 6 lety

      Rocio mijares tames color sticks are made by prismacolor and sold individually or as a set. Dickblick.com has them. You’ll have to google “lecturers chalks” to find a seller. The company I bought mine from is no longer in business

    So i just purchased the chalk from you and the box but where can i get the glove? Is it a special glove for this type of chalk or can i find it at any store?

    Thanks for the video. I had asked for it in another one of your videos where you mentioned it, where you talked about your work with that guy. You really nailed the marker portion, (head shapes, etc.) What did you use to get the little dots of stubble on the man's lower face? They look too tiny for the regular marker to have done. A different pen?
    I agree that the chalk is more vivid and that's why I like it better, even if it weren't faster. I played with the super expensive name brands of chalks and pastels on scrap paper at my local art store (i.e. sennelier, etc.) and could see it was a ton of dust falling off as you stroke, and would come off when people touched it, and too expensive anyway ($7+ per stick), so I was planning on using either the Art Stix or watercolor. (If you've ever used watercolor, would love to see you chime in on that and maybe demo it too. I've seen super works of art done in watercolor, but have only seen two caricaturists on youtube show it but they weren't very helpful. It helps to hear the person talk about what they're doing, at regular speed, not sped up and/or without commentary.
    It sounds like you're saying the order of things when doing the man is what's best, not the woman. (pencil first, then chalk, not vice versa) but I'm confused about when to spray. With the woman, you would have sprayed right after the first base coat, and then done more chalk. In the second one, you do one spray at the end, presumably to seal it so it doesn't rub off. And I hope I'm right that your decision on where to use chalk is simply the size of the area you have to cover, but I'm not sure, cause the woman's lips got chalk and stix, and the man's shirt got stix only. I guess the shirt was too small an area to mess with chalk. Experienced artists know what to remove and where, like with the eraser, especially on the man's face. I never could have caught that. Congrats on 100+ subscribers. Keep up the good work.

      Yes, I sometimes us a regular ball point pen such as a G2 for fine details.

    I watched the Pence video, also the one on invisible chalk. They should be on youtube, not just vimeo. I guess he has to work with the blacklight on (in the case of invisible) or he couldn't see what he's drawing. If his chalk is even softer than pastel sticks, then the amount of dust must make a huge mess. I didn't see dust on your video, or maybe the camera just didn't pick it up.
    I don't know what he meant by 'turning out the overhead lights in your program' at the 7:05 mark. Computer program? Was there something computerized about what he was showing?
    I've been wanting to have a black light room with some cool posters or something florescent-like, so this opens yet another can of worm possibilities. I'd have to find and buy a real florescent chalk artist's work to display something better than anything I could do, and have no idea where to find original florescent work like that. (It would have to be original, since you can't make copies of chalk). I'll have to google 'chalk artist conventions' and see if there is such a thing and what they might have for sale. (as if I can afford it).

      joe doe yes there is some dust but only when you flick the fingers to "clean" glove. Other than that not much dust.
