    One of you just beat me to liking my own video, whoever you are… you are the MVP (first time that’s happened)! Let me know what you think of the look of the Evotech tail tidy and what other modifications you’re thinking about for your own bike.

    That was a good video. When I installed my Evotech tail-tidy Because I’m not electronically inclined I had to scour the Internet to find any pictures or written directions explaining which color Evotech wires plugged into which stock break light colored wires. I finally found a picture which was less than ideal, but had the information needed. Do have a slight problem though. I put a set of LEDs (sicass brand) they work, meaning they blink but after two seconds an error code covers the display. This goes away as soon as the signaling is done. Although really don’t mind it because I never forget to turn my signals off😂 OK the real problem came when trying to install the same brand of LED signals upfront, they didn’t work they just stayed on. No flashing. Apparently the flasher is written in the ECU. The only way LEDs work on both front and back is if you buy KTM‘s then plug it into a shop computer telling it to recognize them. At least that’s what the dealership was telling me. What I was hoping is someone smarter than me could figure out how to take a brand I like and have them output the same as KTM brand. Then I suppose take it back to a dealer and have them recognized (pay the extortion cash to have them turned on) I know, a bit long-winded.

      @v4Mark Před 2 lety +1

      To switch from incandescent bulbs to LED's you need resistors in line with each signal to match the factory wattage. Since LED's use less power than incandescent bulbs, the bike thinks something is wrong, it can also mess with the blink rate of the turn signals.
      I think what your dealership is talking about is ordering OEM KTM LED turn signals and switching the bike into LED mode. (This is how they come standard in Europe). But you can absolutely install LED's on the US spec bike and get it to work with just some resistors.

    • @AlejandrosEngineeredLifestyle
      @AlejandrosEngineeredLifestyle  Před 2 lety

      I completely understand your plight, I’ve been reading about LED mode and the extra resistance necessary to get aftermarket’s to function properly. I will certainly keep everyone in the loop with what direction I go. Also, @Dukie, reach out on IG (Alejandro_EngineeredLifestyle) I have an idea you could help me with!

      @@v4Mark Yes you are most definitely right. I had asked if they, the dealer, could order me some and strangely they couldn’t. When first looking into this I did heard about resistors on some forms and the dealer had mentioned it as well, again they couldn’t help execute it. In my day you could go to a local Radio Shack and sort something like this out. Alas no more!

    • @edlucero1786
      @edlucero1786 Před 2 lety

      Yes. You need the resistors. You can do one 21 ohm resistor on each side R/L, or 10 ohm resistor on each LED. I went with the 10 ohm resistor to minimize heat. I have not heard of any issues with heat using the 21 ohm resistors, but they do have fins for cooling. So I went with the 10 ohm to be on the safer side of that issue. There is a lot of information on the KTM 790 Duke Forum, just do a search. :)

    Alejandro, I just installed this on my 2022 Duke 890 with an American license plate. I used a drill and a centerpunch to drill two holes for the upper two license plate mounting bolts in the mount. This is accomplished by centering the plate in its mounting location and carefully marking where the holes should be for the two upper bolts. Centerpunch the marked spots so the drill doesn't walk off the correct position when you get started. I used a new tungsten step-bit, stopping when the holes were 1/4" in diameter. I mounted with stainless steel 1/4"-20 bolts with nylon lock nuts. If you drill correctly, the holes will be at the outer edge of the current bolt slot. Bolting up will be easy. You can get away from the zip ties and complete your installation with a professional look.

      @@AlejandrosEngineeredLifestyle Several others have written about the shorter turn signal wires making installation difficult. Mine are like that too. The slip connectors reside inside of the clamshell halves of the Evotech assembly. There is just enough room for all three wires to exist in the space available. But, it led to a few panicky moments until it was proven to work.

    I have the Evotech. All in all, I'm very pleased. I opted not to shorten the license plate bracket. I was going to draw one up and blow it out with my CNC plasma.....ended up selling the machine and press break and never got to making one...lol
    Only thing different I did was shorten the Evo brake light harness to the same length as the signals (cut, splice, solder and shrink tube). My next hit is going to be the Euro OEM LED turn signals for the 890 and 690. Plug-n-play on the 690. The 890 must have LED mode enabled in the ECM by a competent dealer and then good to go (in case you are considering the same).
    You have great taste! I watched your rad guard vid too. I am very happy with my Evotech rad guard. Fits perfectly!
