For anyone wondering, the zeebo is a brazilian indie console with a tiny library, with Resident Evil 4 as it's one big game.
deathpyre42 It has some shitty budget games on what I'm assuming is linux based. And also Resi 4
I have one. Unfortunately, it's impossible to put any more games on it since its network services died. I don't have RE4 on mine, but yeah, it's an awful fucking mobile port.
> Brazilian indie console
Well, god bless 'em for trying.
It had a Viewtiful Joe ripoff too
@@deathpyre42 Tax benefit in BRAZIL?
"...and the graphics tech was practically next gen--that is to say, mostly brown."
Gets me every time.
GTA 4
"Lets all laugh at an industry that never learns anything tee hee hee" Love that jingle XD
its amazing.. XD
its amazing.. XD
its amazing... XD
its amazing..XD
its amazing.. XD
"Because Resident Evil 4 is in academic terms FUCKING SWEET" set me laughing so much I almost pissed myself
For me, it’s the image of an anthropomorphic copy of Resi 4 literally humping a pile of sugar.
wow. you suck ass, dude
"And constantly moved like she was busting for a piss."
After looking up some gameplay, I can safely say there's no exaggeration in this.
As someone who grew up with the gamecube, never in my life have I been so offended by something i one hundred percent agree with.
"And I do not say that lightly, because I just ate an entire fruit cake."
I'm stealing that.
Man, I miss Viewtiful Joe. It's a shame Capcom shut down Clover Studios, thus relegating Joe to a roster slot in whichever Capcom crossover fighting game they roll out.
Clover Studios was, of course, reborn as Platinum Games. But Platinum is wary about working with Capcom again, so Viewtiful Joe feels more like the child of a divorced couple and Capcom is the lousier parent to get full custody.
Viewtiful Joe is an even sadder version of Geno and Mallow's story. Great things which are never coming back.
I watch ye Sleep what?
@@user-yi5mt2df5q no they didn't
I really wanted to see VJ3, and learn about the black Vwatch ='(
100% correct. To be fair, VJ2 didn't shape up (great gameplay but the story was off on 80% of its beats and Sylvia didn't add anything to the action) and the other two titles, I didn't play. Mayb there wasn't much hope for VJ as a series in any case - yet a man can dream.
that sweet sweet jingle
Somebody's new to zero punctuation, I've had that jingle memorized for years now.
For all you know he heard it before you even did. He just said that sweet sweet jingle. Never said if or when he first heard it
what? who is he? why did "he" hear it before me or why did i hear it before him? why would i know? how would i know because who is he? i just said "that sweet jingle"
Tobey Duiker you know, his profile pic of a confused Nick Cage fits this conversation perfectly.
Tobey, he was replying to the first guy who replied to you and assumed you never heard it before. You missed the whole part where things happened in chronological order.
"What should've been the laying down of a winning hand became the laying of a cruel fist upon the goolies"
Gets me every time 😂
The segment is back!
Missed it? So did I.
Max J he should do this more often
This segment is like the Spanish Inquisition, it's better if we don't expect it
Max J NOBODY EXPECTS THE SPANISH INQUISITION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pretty sure everybody expected that though... :P
Everytime I watch this I can just imagine him reclining in his chair with his feet up on his desk and his hands resting on the back of his head when he first says "Capcom"
Looking at that trailer, a functional and fun version of PNO3 *was* eventually released - it was called Bayonetta.
2:38 make that 12 consoles, Nintendo switch was added to the list
Starts video: I didn't expect to hear that jingle again
5 seconds later: "Yeah I bet you didn't think you'd hear that again did you?"
Me: "ARE YOU A WIZARD?!"
The GameCube was actually pretty awesome. Most of my fond childhood gaming memories were coming home from school and playing on the GameCube until I couldn't move my fingers.
Yeah it’s quite the console
It’s Bain issues we’re just bad third party support and mini disks
Nintendo does live its anti piracy tactical nuclear strikes
"Kitchen appliance" appeared two separate times in this video. Did Yahtzee get a new kitchen appliance and nobody's told me?
This was actually really really interesting. Yahtzee should do documentaries!
I'm so glad I got to hear that intro jingle again, wait, that's a bad thing
"Billions of billious blue blistering barnacles" -Captain Haddock
I've never fucking heard of Zeebo.
I still haven't, even after you've mentioned it.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zeebo
found it
Who thought that porting RE4 to that was a good use of money?
Martin Johnson
'shrugs'
It's basically a quick port of the mobile version. Probably didn't cost much, and Brazil is a relatively big market.
Shedding tears of joy from hearing that sting again.
I felt compelled to rewatch this one after the review of the remake of Resident Evil 4. Which didn't just polish up the graphics but toned down the corniness and cut out whole segments from the original version. Suffice to say, Yahtzee was FURIOUS and let the new one have it.
Hearing that jingle made me so happy!
I love this segment of yours, Yahtzee. Your take on gaming history is detailed and hilarious as ever.
One thing I find hilarious about this is that the port of Resident Evil 4 that's widely considered to be the best version of the game is in fact the *Wii* port, thanks to the IR-pointer aiming that works even better than aiming with a mouse.
Literally the only game on the Wii that works that well too
I'm so happy to hear that Yahtzee likes Viewtiful Joe.
Nice to see this series back, I've enjoyed the other entries as well.
"Let's all laugh at an industry that never learns anything tee hee hee"
I laughed way too hard on that one
I can't even begin to describe how happy that opening jingle made me
I need the lyrics to the jingle, so I can annoy my friends.
lets all laugh at an industry that never learns anything teeheehee
I appreciate it.
Let's all laugh at an industry
That never learns anything, tee hee hee
Haha youll get them good buddy, epic prank
Random documents and audio logs~
Oh, wrong jingle.
The Gamecube had a fantastic game library on the whole... and honestly if any 2-3 decent exclusives would have stayed that way it'd probably have a really solid reputation. But eventually you lose your exclusive Tales of Symphonia and your Capcom games, nobody pays attention to Custom Robo for some reason, and you end up the 'ehhhh' of Nintendo to a lot of folks.
I loved custom robo as a kid.
I remember PCGamer having a huge cover blurb once saying "Exclusive Quake II Info" or something to that effect
people read it and wrote in to complain about how it was all stuff they heard elsewhere
PCG responded that the word exclusive doesn't mean original and.. um.. exclusive, it means "the firstest with the mostest" (sic)
4:38 I personally believe the main reason that there were no Capcom characters in SSBB was that SSBB was the first Smash game to have 3rd party characters, and even then, the only characters were Solid Snake and Sonic.
5:07 - It's a real shame that we are in the minority. Not to mention that even if the industry tried to stop doing it, the hordes of entitled little shits that are the current and future generations would roll around in tantrums that they can't get their "unique rewards" (because being one of millions to have it is totally unique).
It's the touchscreen phone generation of at-home video "game" Consoles.
*-Fuck this industry, I miss my "Gen 7" tech and offline capability, why did consoles have to become overrated and underpowered versions of PC's? They basically destroyed their consumer base by being fucking retards.-*
Ain't that the truth.
***** Still more honest than a post-2008 gameplay trailer. props mate.
I am of this the next generation and I fuckin' hate the newer consoles. I only have an Xbox One to play stuff my laptop cant run.
Hexerin Null let's not pretend millenials are any better.. I'm ashamed to be grouped together with fat neck beard safe space antisocial autistic retards that are ridiculously spoilt. This generation seems more preferable in my opinion
The fact that RE:4 is likely being ported to VR in the immediate future makes this list even longer.
Please make these segments more often!
While optical media was probably the best choice at the time, it's not as though cartridges were completely without benefit.
And more durability
But the disadvantages far outweighed the advantages
And Nintendo tried optical discs once before and came out of the deal with bruises (3DO). No wonder they didn't want to jump into the CD storage fiasco.
Sure there were some advantages, but the way the industry was moving towards the cinematic made optical the natural choice. Nintendo sticking to cartridges is what lead to Final Fantasy 7 and Metal Gear Solid moving to Sony, which became the Playstation's biggest games. Who knows where Nintendo would've been if they hadn't made that mistake.
Agreed. Those benefits weren't worth an extra twenty bucks, though.
that lawn clippings line literally broke my brain, thank you
"the color brown" made me laugh so hard. love these
4:31 for some reason i can't stop laughing at this gamecube falling
You said kitchen appliance twice
Andrew Craucamp
Well done, I see you hearing is doing alright.
Beeble TV i see you spelling is great as well.
Holy shit, did you hear how many times he said Capcom?!
Frodo, I see your grammar is doing well. My lying isn't though.
Good job Andrew! Now that you have learnt that, lets try crawling.
This was both hilarious and educational. The best Zero Punctuation yet.
can't help myself, i have to head bang everytime i hear the intro, Rock On!
For the curious and terminally lazy, 0:19 Cap.com redirects to Capital One’s website.
this was pretty entertaining. I'd love to see more episodes of this spin-off series in the future.
Did I just see the legendary Captain Haddock? The legendary drunk of a Sea Captain with the catchiest catchphrase in the history of ever?
5:07 My hero...
Here come the fives, better look alive Clive.
now hold on a minute, what do you have against oscilloscopes?
I have been binging this series recently, been liking every episode.
GOOD TO HEAR THAT SONG BOY OH BOY
Haven't heard that opening jingle in a while. It gets me every time.
I actually quite like pn.03. It had some pretty rad enemy and boss designs. Also although the levels could get a bit same-y it still looked pretty cool. Also busting out out the ultra attacks was a treat.
awesome! I missed this segment so much!
Great video, I'd love to see more of these informative monologues
"Bathroom disinfectant as a drink mixer"
PLEASE stop predicting the future man
Angeeel L.M. What, eating tide pods traumatized ya?
I was just thinking about "lets all laugh at an industry that never learns anything teeheehee"
I must be able to see the future
I love that mini song
Another superb video! I really liked the different format (not a review) and would like to see more
"let's all laugh at an industry that never learns anything tee hee hee" want that as my text alert.
I sing that jingle every time a GameStop employee asks me to preorder this year's CoD.
Vasche Braev right cause it’s not like cod still sells millions every year. Nope you don’t like it so they shouldn’t bother selling it
Probably more a comment about Gamestop than COD.
i will never stop singing that jingle.
Love really love the gaming history episodes. Keep them coming, please!
P.N.03 is easily one of my favorite GCN games...just like GunValkyrie on the Xbox, it wasn't for everyone but it was nuanced and very fun once you nailed the controls.
And here I was thinking that I was literally the only one who liked those two games.
@@johnnydarling8021
I still wear the promo sunglasses from P.N.03 every time I drive in the daytime.
I have a few unopened pairs that I've stashed away, too, in case mine get lost or break.
Actually, Yahtzee, the smaller discs on the Gamecube kept loading times to a serious minimum. Same reason the N64 didn't use discs (That and discs are fragile as fuck)
Which is nice. But, using standardized hardware tends to not scare developers away.
I hope he does more of these, because these are super interesting.
oh yahtzee, you kill me😂
this the funniest one you have done in a while. funny how comedy can be so truthful.
The Gamecube never sold as well as it probably should have unfortunately, I have a bad feeling this NX might go the same way. Nice piece of video game history here though.
+Joel
What about the NES mini?
Also I suggest you watch 'OBE1plays' I believe he is part of that legion, just watch 1 video and give me feedback.
Well the 3DS was still a major success due to it only competing with the PSVita, and the 3D gimmick is ignored by pretty much everyone at this point, due to it not being mandatory on any games (Unlike a certain Starfox game on a certain home console that shoves its gimmicks down your throat).
Joel Schembri Yeah,Nintendo aren't thinking straight anymore.Haha glad you checked his channel, that's the same way I felt
There were quite a few reasons the Gamecube failed commercially the biggest one being the atrocious manner in which it was released to Europe which to this day is Sony's biggest market demographic. The Gamecube came out 2 years after the PS2 in it's most dominant region with no backwards compatibility, an exclusive approach to 3rd party developers unlike the PS2's open approach and just a general lack of effort in all regions outside of America.
That loss taught Nintendo a harsh lesson one that was learnt by the DS and Wii which remain Nintendo's best selling consoles of all time thanks to a HUGE array of developer support and fair cost for buyers.
Joel Schembri If you play some of the Nintendo Eshop games, like Xeodrifter, Mutant Mudds, Witch and Hero, Bit Boy! Arcade, Cubit the Hardcore Platformer Robot, Box Boy, Pullblocks, and The Denpa Men, you'll find some real gems at the same price as steam games. They also have some really good ports like Cave Story, Binding of Isaac Rebirth, VVVVVV, Shovel Knight, and a port of most classic games from the NES and SNES.
Killer 7, still my favorite game of all times
So happy you did one this year, even though we all know it's because of your move and you don't have anything set up yet. I'd really like to see superman 64 when a publisher jumps down the throats of the developer and wb and their continued war upon themselves.
I did not think I would hear that jingle again, you're right
the only franchise that i care about from crapcom still is fully exclusive to Nintendo wich is monster hunter wich is a shame coz it would be a great PC game
Yeah Monster Hunters would do great on pc.
Jerry Longbones I thought they had some versions on the psp
Oh 'CRAPcom.' I get it. Aren't you hilarious with your overused, unfunny, joke.
It started on PS2, then went to PSP, then went to Wii, then went to 3DS, and it has Japanese versions all over the Vita, and a Chinese version on the PC. It's not fully exclusive to Nintendo
they need to bring the latest PC version to the US, just look at the game play alone, i think it would become another peak in the MMO market
This was actually really interesting video game history to listen to. Does anyone know offhand names of videos where he's talked about other video game history/business facts? I'd look them up myself but the Zero Punctuation playlist has like 400+ videos and I'm a lazy bitch.
Ruth E. his E.T. video
ET and Daikatana
Also Quake and Shadows of the Damned. They weren't Zero Punctuation specials like E. T. and Daikatana, but they did contain some neat history
Hooray!! The jingle is back!!
I actually never thought I'd hear that jingle again, it's been a while...
After all, capcom have made some good dames, like okami for example.
That reminds me, did Yahtzee do a review on okami?
the japanese section made GREAT game, best in the world in action gameplay actually
tell me any developer who can pull combat presentation better than capcom, except platinum, that's just capcom reject going wonderful
comcept being capcom reject going shitty
He joked about it in a positive way at the end of his Zelda Phantom Hourglass review.
Zachary Erickson
Manstah Hantah
Did now.
God, I miss Viewtiful Joe... which I played on the PlayStation 2 (actually the sequel), but still, the Viewtiful Joe games are kinda awesome.
I thought he said vengful joe, about a game putting his ex-wife, co-workers and boss into a lumber shredder.
Viewtul Joe 2 was good, but not even close to the first. You should really try to get a hold of a copy of number 1 if you can.
If you have a Wii U you should check out Wonderful 101. Its from the same director and imo just as good as Viewtiful Joe
And if ya get VJ1 for PS2, you get Dante exclusive (from DMC)
Genuinely never used to care for gaming history until you started pumping these out...
We need more of these :D its great
Why would you throw out oscilloscopes?
HAHA, Jokes on you, Yahtzee. I watched your retrospective review of ET for the Atari 2600 yesterday. That jingle was still in my head from then.
The very first words in his video are used to call himself out on that whole retrospective episode thing he did for a bit and then kind of forgot about.
This is why I love ya, yahtzee.
Lawn clippings and dead wasps...now I know what to get my mother in law for Christmas.
I think that on the next episode of this sub-series, Yahtzee should discuss the failures of the Sega Game Gear and Sega Nomad, and how Sony didn't learn from them when making the PS Vita.
To be fair, when the best thing that can be learned there is "Don't bother fighting Nintendo in the handheld market, they're Kenshiro and you are already dead", I can see why Sony wouldn't listen. xD
@@MrOmegatronic true, but my point was that the Game Gear and Nomad were basically portable versions of their home consoles (ie, they were too powerful for their own good). Sony then made the PS Vita, which was on par with the PS3, but development for those systems are too expensive.
(Extra Credits explained this a lot better years ago in their video about why the Vita failed)
So Gabe still asks for payments?
This video is MAGNIFICENT
I feel like I'm the only one who loves P.N.03. It's a unique playing experience with a sweet soundtrack!
The GameCube was a good console. Not only did it have great games, it had the best controller in all of gaming history. Just thinking about it makes me want to set fire to a Wiimote.
Hell yes. At least the Wii had the good sense to make most of its games compatible with the GC controller.
Hmm... yeah, that sounds about right.
• Making the main button the largest face button on the controller instantly solves the biggest issue with controller schemes, by making it perfectly clear which button is meant to do what (and, with any reasonable dev, what button _will_ do what in the default control scheme): The big A button handles the most important game function(s) and menu accept, the secondary B button handles menu cancel and the second-most important game function(s), and other buttons are flexible secondary features.
• Triggers are pressure-sensitive with palpable feedback, allowing them to provide more functionality than purely digital triggers.
• The C stick handles camera controls much more smoothly than the N64's C buttons, and is responsive enough (and just as importantly, remappable enough) to handle whatever other task if camera control isn't important.
• The overall button layout makes everything easy to access, and will be trivially memorised in an hour or two tops.
Only real issues are that it didn't have stick buttons since they hadn't caught on yet, and that it kept the N64's knee Z instead of going with dual shoulder triggers.
The GameCube controller was fantastic, but I honestly think the Wii Remote is underrated; it was certainly flawed (no second stick for camera controls), but IR-pointer aiming was fantastic. I loved using the bow in the Wii version of Twilight Princess because aiming was a breeze. I honestly kind-of miss it (though gyro aim on the Wii U and Switch is still good).
0:12 thats ringtone worthy right there
That jingle will be set as my notification for youtube
Ahhaha! the TinTin reference killed!
*Hears the industry jingle*
It's been 10,000 years
RE4..one of my favorite games of that generation.
Checking voltage waveforms is a thing of the past now? What did I miss?
i Was about to check the date of this video when he said "Yeah, didn't think you'd hear that again did you?"
I actually liked PN03! It was definitely no stellar incredible game, but it was entertaining. ...and movung like she had to piss? This game launched when techno was a fad and she was listening to music the whole time... which... considering she was being shot at by robots with laser guns... didn't seem too safe. Yeah that part was dumb, but otherwise the game was fun.
I just took it for a game that featured "dance fighting" as its main mechanic.
Which is awesome. I loved the game too.
I liked P.N.03... o.o'
This is definitely one of Yahtzee's best videos. I really enjoyed the history lesson.
that song.... all day every day....
