for me, it's this song that made Dimash famous. But his version does not have the emotionnal side that Daniel give to it. And the fact that Dimash is not famous in France after he sung this song on TV, is due to the fact that it was quite impossible to understand a french word. Yes he has a big talent and a big technique but note the emotion on this song he sung for a contest

Bonjour du Québec au Canada Frank. SOS d'un terrien en détresse (SOS from an earthling in distress) is a song composed by Michel Berger (France) and written by Luc Plamondon (Québec) in 1978 for the rock opera Starmania.
The song is composed on two and a half octaves to fully exploit the rare tessiture of Daniel Balavoine. The singer performed it for the first time on the studio album Starmania in 1978, then in the rock opera Starmania in 1979.
The song was subsequently covered by Norman Groulx, Renaud Hantson, Bruno Pelletier, Grégory Lemarchal, Daniel Popovic, Laurent Bàn and Dimash Kudaibergen, Slimane, Martin of The Voice Kids Belgium Season 1, Jane Constance of The Voice Kids Season 2, Soan Arhimann of The Voice Kids France Season 6 and Rania Boussetta of The Voice Kids Season 7.
As I've always loved this song, I used to listen to several versions to see how the singers would deliver it. So it was this song that made me discover the talent of Dimash. Since then, he has fallen into my heart. I can't go a day without listening to him. Dimash has become my drug and I don't want to be detoxified from him. Pour terminer, j'apprécie tes réactions quant à Dimash. Stay safe.

Daniel Balavoine is talking to us, it is like a conversation with a friend. It is intimate, ephemeral. It is about impossible dreams, sorrow, questions about life and himself. Dimash is doing a technical stunt that to me, lacks of emotion. It has nothing to do with the fragility, the vulnerability expressed in the text.

  • @zouzou6332

      Cdt,

Balavoine, in his career, drew a lot from Queen and Genesis. He started in progressive rock french groups in 1971, before he made pop, a bit like Phil Collins, once he became a star. He died a few months before a collaboration with Peter Gabriel.

HISTORY SONG « S.O.S.» (Dimash and Lemarchal - Two angels. One in heaven, the other on earth) czcams.com/video/hcdSe899btk/video.html
The song "S.O.S. D'un Terrien En Detresse" was written for the French-Kubek rock opera "Starmania" in 1976, music by Michel Berge, lyrics by Luke Plamendon. «I've never stood with my feet on the ground. I wish I was a bird.. I feel bad in my body …» - sang by actor Daniel Balavouan in 1978. After Balavoan's death in 1986, few people managed to sing his masterpieces really well, conveying all the feelings and thoughts of the author. In September 2004, Gregory Lemarshal sang this song. From that very first performance of Gregory at the Star Academy, the history of the Little Prince has been counted. Gregory was terminally ill and died in 2007. 40 years after the release of the famous "SOS d'un terrien en detresse", these lines again sound from the stage. All over the world it is recognized that the best performer of this song is Dimash. He made this song a worldwide hit. In his performance, she scored 600 million views on the Internet in one night. His performance is now being studied by vocalists all over the world. Kazakh singer at 26 years old - a real star in his country. In 2017, Dimash had already come to France for the show of Patrick Sebastian Ann'es Bonheur and sang the song "S.O.S.". We can say that it turned out to be a relay of generations. Balavoan passed away in 1986, Lemarshal in 2007. And now a new generation carries a torch - a high call to humanity: "think! what do we live for? why are we dying?"
//////// S.O.S. OF A MAN IN DISTRESS "STARMANIA" (FRENCH ROCK OPERA).
Why do I live, why do I die?
Why do I live, why do I cry?
Here is the SOS of a man in distress
I've never had both feet upon the ground
I'd rather be a bird I don't fit into this skin
I'd like to see the world turned upside down
    If ever it were beautiful
It's lovelier from above, from above
I've always confused life with the comic strips
    Even wished I could transform
    I feel something
    That draws me
    That draws me
That draws me up Into the great lotto of the universe
I don't have the right numbers
I don't fit into this skin
    I don't want to be a robot
    Eating, working, sleeping
Why do I live, why do
I die Why do I live, why do I cry I think
    I'm catching waves
    From another world
I've never had both feet upon the ground
    I'd rather be a bird
I'd like to see the world turned upside down
I'd rather be a bird Sleep, child, sleep....

    Hi Frank
Happy you ear original song... by Daniel Balavoine ( pronounced Balav one )... ;-)
It was a great french artist... died in 1986 on Paris-Dakar race to age 36...in helicopter crash ...
He was, for me, the French Peter Gabriel, for the impact of the lyrics of his songs and the musical style he had taken (his last album 1985, he had used the Fairlight CMI ... as Peter)
I recommend "Dieu que c'est beau " translate by "god how beautiful" (on the birth of a child)... in 1984 !!
Daniel started his career as a backing vocalist for a popular singer from the 70s (Patrick Juvet)... his voice was so powerful it passed above the singer !!!
As explained in another comment, "SOS d'un terrien en détresse" was specially written for him.

Sorry but Dismash did not make this song famous in the French-speaking countries; it was already done in the late 1970's with the rock opera Starmania which contains so many huge hits. There was also an English version of this rock opera named Tycoon (Peter Kingsbery sang : Only the very best).

this song require some intimacy and softness to fit the lyrics, Dimash interpretation is full of hard break and is too powerful, don't get me wrong, his vocal are amazing and performance awesome but when you understand the lyrics it doesn't fit, Balavoine interpretation is not as vocally perfect, not as demonstrative but he "speak" the lyrics as the character tell his story, this song is a man telling his sadness, his despair, but I am biased...

Dimash's voice is unparalleled but I prefer Balavoine's version, the song is about a guy who's depressed and thinking about suicide, Dimash makes it too big, too showy, someone who is depressed is quiet, tired, worn out, feeling some relief when he thinks about the relief of dying in the song the part when he talks about soaring that's why it's the only bright and strong part but everything else is low.
