The problem with adding an overall layer of mist is the constant or not fitting density, which makes it look like an unnatural milky spray. In real life parts of the mist will be observed at a direct 90 dg angle and other areas nearby at e.g. 60 dg - this will make the first area look thinner and less dense than the second giving the realistic look. Such an effect when added superficially must follow the topography - so the only way to do it right is to add smaller areas with different density, facilitating the observer's view.

James, that is amazing!!, I’ve only just started out with Affinity and use affinity revolution for my ‘beginners journey’ then use you for inspiration and to set myself a goal for about 10 years time when I may, just, be as competent as you 😂. I suspect we’re in the same part of the world too as I saw some clips from you in N Notts? I’m up near Retford. Keep them coming James, love your delivery btw.

You create the BEST Affinity Photo videos. I like the composition themed ones best but they're all really, really good. I like that they're presented at an intermediate (or higher) level yet are still clearly explained and very easy to follow along with. A hot cup of tea, a pair of headphones, and I'm good to go while I revel in your work. I appreciate the time and effort it takes to create these tutorials.

These are great James. I was wondering if there were plans to do some videos on some of the more complex masking/alpha methods, particularly using channels and Apply Image/Equations, which seems to be the equivalent of Photoshops' Calculations, but seemingly even less user friendly?

James your examples really help bridge the efficiency gap I am always looking for. As an architectural/interiors photographer compositing and layering are essential in my post workflow. This is just the right skills level for me but can always be pushed to get to the next level. An architectural and/or interiors example would be a nice appreciative change from your previous examples :)

This is absolutely amazing! Can't wait to buy Affinity and try this out with night sky photos, among others. Do you have any tutorials for night sky composites i.e. a foreground/land and background/sky? I guess the techniques will be somewhat the same as this video. I struggled with Photoshop and would do most of it manually. This refine option in Affinity looks fantastic. Anyway, thanks for the great tutorial.
