Wow, a very young chihuahua at your age? Chihuahuas live longer than big breeds. Some can live till 20 years old. Our chihuahua is 13 years old and despite suffering from arthritis, he is still relatively healthy.

Thanks for all the knowledge you share. I'd like to make a question about using free moments during the walk. No food drive and no prey drive. The only thing he wants is to explore.

Not sure what FREE MOMENTS are. There is no off leash free time. We use a retractable leash with our puppies to let our pup roam out away from us when we are in an area where there is space. All dofgs have food drive is you fast the dog for a day or even two days the dog will have food drive. They still. get water just no food. This will not hurt the dog at all. It will also result in a dog having value for food.

@@efrawley55 free moments to pee and poop. In your opinion, can I use it as a positive reinforcement or just food and toys ?

@@matilha01 we just verbally praise our dog when it pees or poops. We d not reward with toys or food.

@@efrawley55 yes I got it. I do this way. Always on leash. But I'd like to know if is it possible to let the dog sniff for a minute (for example) as a reward.

You may need to hire an exorcist

I am a new subscriber and have a 2 year old German Pinscher who refuses to get back to the house at mid night after her last pee. Nothing will induce her to get in. She goes crazy cantering in the garden and I'm unable to catch her. She flies at my approach. She seems wild and terrified. She even tries to make a nest in the garden after she had had a lot of exercize. She is then a completely different dog. I tried every trick : treats, light and no light, open and closed door, leash.. She lays down and resists.. I've had her for one month. She is a rescue dog and ok during the day. 🤔🐕 I can't control her when she is like this. She ignores me..😢

Put a leash or long line on her in the yard lol

@@strawberykiri thank you but I have done all that. She flees when I approach and if I get the leash on, she lays down, refusing to follow and jumps trying to escape from her collar. Today I tried a harness, she really didn't like it and made it plain! From now on she'll wear it a few hours a day to get used to it. I'm very patient, not to scare her because if a tone is too high, the daily progress has to be start all over again. I rescued a dog with problems. Sometimes she behaves like a wild animal. She follows me when it suits her but if I attempt to approach her, she runs away.. She is not interested in food or toys! She doesn't know how to play apart from interacting with me. Playing hide and seek sometimes like two dogs would do. Sometimes she is not afraid and at others she seems terrified... Hard to live with..😒

    • @strawberykiri

I would keep a leash on her at all times. If she runs off so you can't grab the leash, you need a longer leash or just keep her attached to you.

@@strawberykiri it's what I do already when she is in the garden and it's almost time to go in but I cannot leave her with the leash all the time because she runs a lot and goes" zoomy"! She is still a pup in her mind.. Sometimes she thinks it's a game to run away when I call her. I was planning to get some help from a trainer but he cannot solve the entire problem particularly at night. Homework has to be done on a daily basis. I already succeeded in having her sit before her meal and she sits each time she wants something. She is a great observer and soon found out how to open doors and so on. She doesn't accept being constrained or locked in.. I'm glad I no longer live in a flat.☺️

@@martineinfrance the trainer doesn't solve the problem for you. The trainer gives you homework to help you solve the problem. Putting her on a leash before you let her outside at night will solve the problem so you can get her to come inside and reward her for cooperating. Then, you can improve her recall and fade the leash once it has improved.
