  • This is my compassion shave between the Permasharp Stainless Double Edge Blade & Feather Hi-Stainless Blade. I was always curious about the Permasharp Blades as many people in the wet shaving community have often compared these 2 blades as being very close in performance.I used a Mekur 34C Safety Razor as well as 1st Line Shave Blue Label Shave Soap & my Maggards Blue/White Synthetic Gray Shaving Brush.Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements 2.0 Pre-Shave Menthol Cube was also used as well as Denim Aqua Aftershave..

    Hey Brian, the Voskhods are made in the Rapira factory I believe, rather than the St. Petersburg(?) factory where the Gillettes are. Perma Sharp are excellent blades for me. Bic yellow and Nacet are worth trying if you’re looking for a sharp blade. Also the newer Gillette Platinum. Ah there’s tons out there

    Great comparison Mike I found perma Sharp cheaper on EBay around $14 for 100 and I like it more then Feather because first shave with Feather is little rough to me then perma Sharp

    Great video, not too many covering Perma Sharp either. It's good practice trying new/ unfamiliar blades in the same razor. In will have to try these. Personally I love Astra. They are sharp, super sharp and so damn cheap to buy. I never shave more than 2/3 shaves with them versus 5 with Feather. The Feather steel feels 'tougher' somehow. But Astras are going for 200 blades for £7.50 . At that price shave then recycle after 1 shave!

      Thanks Al, I was pleasantly surprised on how sharp & how well the Perma-Sharp blades were. The Astras are great blades. I personally like how well the Astra Super-Stainless Blades shave (the blue pack). Thanks for watching & enjoy the shaves!😎👍

    I discovered my mistake in not liking Permasharps was due to testing on Merkur 37C. It is too aggressive on my skin. Pairs perfectly well with King C Gillette in just 2 XTG passes without irritation.

    • @brianthefloridian6254
      @brianthefloridian6254  Před 2 lety

      I agree. Sometimes blades that work well with a least aggressive razor are sometimes too rough with a more aggressive razor. I find using a permasharp or feather on the Rex Ambassador no matter the setting is a little rough compared to being the best blades for me with a Merkur 34C. Thanks for watching!👍😎

      Quick update: Ironically, I switched back to Merkur 37C. What worked with King C Gillette works with Merkur 37C, too. However King C Gillette kept catching the moustache area. Merkur 37C is much better around the upper lip area.

      Have been a feather shaver for as long as I can remember. A long time ago I read and saw that Kai…another Japanese blade…was rival in the area of sharpness. Tried em. I can tell you that one thing I learned back then was that sharp or sharper is not always better or closer. The Kai was a dangerous shave for me. And I do not have sensitive skin. They were definitely sharp, but the edge and the coatings make “alike” blades different. Will have to try Perma Sharp. Balzano we’re excellent but for a little more $ I will still choose Feather. And actually, just tried the Gillette Silver Blue and really liked the result. Much cheaper than Feather and performed well.

    For me the real question would be....is a Feather as good as Perma-Sharp. As they are so smooooooth. Perma-Sharp are in my to 4 list. I prefer a good balance between sharp and smooth. Not looking for the sharpest but a good balance.
