After the mega success of the 'True Blue' album Madonna embarked on the 'Who's That Girl World Tour' in 1987 to promote both 'True Blue' and her new movie and soundtrack 'Who's That Girl.' Her arrival in Japan saw absolute Madonna mania at the airport with 25,000 fans showing up to greet her. The elaborately staged and choreographed production was a sell-out in Japan and further cemented Madonna's status as the Queen of rock 'n' roll. Well, I know Madonna has made several mistakes in terms of arrogance, but her badass attitude onstage back then was so groundbreaking and so important for the industry that it makes me forget about the slight overkill. In an industry where male rockstars could do whatever they wanted, curse everyone out, spit on the audience, break everything, her badass attitude was the trigger for a new era and for a great deal of change in the way female artists expressed their artistry. The way she helped shape the industry we know nowadays is just unexplainable, she's a cultural phenomenon.
