- 👋 After buying the new 2024 Audi RS3 it's time to compare it to what I think is the RS3's big brother. The BMW M3 Competition G80. I think the G80 M3 Comp is the best performance sedan on the market! Brand new coming in at $90,000 it is an expensive car and non in my budget at the current moment. So for $65,000 the new 8Y Audi RS3 was the perfect compromise. Driving the 2024 RS3 is a lot of fun. This car is very performance focused with a dramatic DCT transmission, plenty of power and good handling characteristics. The brakes on the RS3 are also very aggressive and you can tell this car means business! Driving the G80 BMW M3 Competition is equally as fun, but even more! The 500 horsepower twin turbo inline 6 cylinder engine packs even power power, the steering is even heavier and this car is just a big step up in performance in every way. The M3 is a bit bigger too from the RS3 and really makes for the perfect sedan. Plenty of room for a family and yet it's a power house of fun! The RS3 is a bit more compact and you can tell it a lower class of car. But when talking about performance it feels just a lively as the M3, just 100 less horsepower form the single turbo inline 5 cylinder engine. So it truly feels like the babe M3 to me. While the BMW M340i is the actual step down from the M3 lineup, it feels more like a normal car that happens to have better brakes, suspension and power over the 330i. But you can tell the M340i is a normal sedan with a sporty touch. The S4 and IS500 compete nicely with the M340i since all of those are normal luxury sedans with that extra performance. The RS3 is a step up in performance and feel like the performance characteristics are the number one goal of the RS. So that aspect is why I think the new 2024 Audi RS3 is the Baby BMW M3. The M3 is a true performance sedan that is also practical and refined, the RS3 has the same feeling, just toned down a bit and is $25,000 less expensive. One day an M3 will be in the garage ;)

2024 RS3 owner and BMW fan boi here. I was between these two. Considering you can get m3c for almost same price as new RS3 (without markup) but I still opt-in into RS3 as 5 cylinder sound is exotic and fun (coming from S65 straight piped M3). Value will be retained better therefore I will wait until M3CxDrive are in 60-70k range and swap my RS3 for it.

Great review, but you're killing me because seeing you have that much fun with the power of the M3 is making me reconsider buying one instead of the RS3! These were literally the two finalists when I was shopping for a new car! 😀
If you can afford the M3 definitely get it! Such an amazing car that’s checks every box! RS3 is a good step down in every category still offering a ton of fun and at that lower price. So purely comes down to budget. When we end up selling the RS3 for an SUV, I think I’ll swap my car for an M3 😎
@BrosFOURRSpeed It's in the budget, but I hear rumors of the M2 getting xdrive, and that would be a better value by quite a bit lol! Choices choices, as they say my friend😄
That'd be interesting to see the M2 with xDrive! Would make an M4 pointless to buy since they are so similar. But if you want the 4 doors and the M3 Comp is in your budget, go for it! Amazing car!
RS3 is special. You didn't make a mistake.
Just bought an RS3 ! I love it so far, I was also In between an M3 and my RS3. You barely see RS3 and it’s about a 15k difference so that’s why I went with it. The sound is good, my dad has a Hurracan and it almost sounds just like it!
Nice! Yeah it's a big chunk more for the M3! Yeah I have a Gallardo and you can totally hear the V10 sound! Once we have an exhaust on the RS3 it will be interesting to hear how it wakes up!

@@justinnabong9619 Unitronic or IE. I don't like IE for personal reasons. However, with IE, my tune on my 8V was fine and I have heard good things about Unitronic regarding the RS3s from other locals. I just purchased my 8y; however, from my understanding, there are no tunes besides the piggyback tunes? I believe the ECU is still locked. However, I am still learning more day by day coming from 8V so I may be corrected.
@@muscularweeb sounds good ! I believe the 8Y doesn’t have the ECU cracked yet. But I have seen Unitronic do well with the last platform. Hoping they unlock it soon bc I know this engine has crazy potential!
@@justinnabong9619 Right, I know Unitronic is developing it now, or at least that's what their website says. Oh 100%. If you want it to sound even better, I'd suggest an AWE catback and Unitronic Midpipes, I just ordered mine!
I shopped both of these and ended up ordering an RS3. I drove them both extensively on two separate 3-1/2-day Turo rentals in Miami. Drove them around the city and to the Keys. They're both great cars, but trying to compare apples to apples, the M3c, well-optioned, was almost touching $100,000. The RS3, just under $70,000. I could buy a Honda Civic with the difference in price. The difference in performance, from what I could feel, although definitely noticeable, was not worth the extra cost for the M3 to me. The interior felt a little more high-end on the M3 as well, but the RS Design interior on the RS3 attempts to bring things back up to speed. Bottom line, they are not in the same price segment and there are no other options in their individual price segments. Also, when someone finally cracks the code on an ECU tune for the RS3, adding 75whp will be just a flash away for another $1,000-1,500 and that will bring it on par with M3 acceleration. I agree with the steering feel on the RS3. Very common complaint. It needs to feel tighter in performance mode.
How would you compare the sound between the two? And how do you think the RS3 compares to the M340i performance and driving experience wise ?

Haven't driven an M340i, but I'd imagine the RS3 is more fun to drive.
They are both great cars! I wouldn’t call the RS3 a baby M3. It’s definitely a capable car with a ton of potential! For those that have driven both, they are very different. The M3 is definitely a better drivers car. With the RS3 being front wheel biased, it takes some of the feel away from the driving experience to me. I love them both and I think they are both great cars, you can’t go wrong with either one! I wish Audi offered a carbon seat upgrade. I hate those seats they offer in it. For that price, they could at least offer an upgrade like the Carbon buckets seats you can get in some places in the new RS5 Comp.
Really reminds me of an Evo (RS3) vs GTR (M3 xdrive) kind of comparison. Evo/RS3 has a smaller transverse engine, weighs less, makes less power, and has full time awd based system. GTR/M3 has a bigger longitudinal engine, weighs more, makes more power, and has a rear-biased awd system. Both are special. I chose the RS3 but the M3 was on my short list. M3 performance is good but it's too big and too heavy in my opinion and i like the interior and exterior design of the RS3 more. Both can easily make more power and go as fast as you want them to.
Yeah I can definitely see that in a modern version! These are the newer and European versions of those cars

thanks for doing this comparison. How's the steering weight between these cars? I tend to like heavy steering and from what I hear RS3 is pretty light and it doesn't change with the driving modes.
M3 is much heavier. I like it a lot better to be honest. RS3 needs to be heavier and more direct in RS Performance mode. That's my biggest complaint with the car
How does the m3 compare to your old gtr? I know the g8x platform of the m3/m4 bolts up amazingly well. Thinking about going from a gtr to a m4.

Equally fine for a daily. RS3 is more affordable and a bit smaller. So really depends on budget. If we could justify $90k on a sedan right now, we would have bought the M3. But the RS3 offered a similar fun factor for better pricing

I disagree w this review simply because the Rs3 might compete in terms of power but the 3 series isn’t going after the smaller a3/s3/rs3 it’s directly competing w the a4/s4 and we all know which one comes out on top
I never said the RS3 was the direct competitor to the M3. The whole goal in this video is to show that if you want an M3 but $65k is your budget, the RS3 would be the best choice. S4 and M340i are not as performance focused. RS3 and M3 are very performance focuses. RS3 is a step up in purely performance from the S4 and M340
I wish the G80 came in a blue similar to the RS3
You can order it in a BMW individual color. I've seen a few pop up in a similar color. Just have to pay $5k for a custom paint order. But would be nice to have some more standard colors
Which car would you say is more confident around a corner?
I'd say M3. Mainly because the steering feel of the RS3 just isn't as heavy. And since the front wheels are wider it just feels a bit different taking a fast turn. M3 feels a bit more solid
Right. M3/M4 sounds like the next step up. If they made the M2 xDrive that would be really in the sweet spot. In the meantime RS3 is a good move. Am looking to get a sunroof with the RS for the top down experience without it being a convertible.@@BrosFOURRSpeed

M3 xdrive would absolutely roast either of those cars in straight line performance, but both of those cars definitely handle corners extremely well, like the M3! Caddy has crap interior and refinement compared to the M3, but no idea about the guilia qv!
I've driven both. We had the Alfa and the CT4V BW for a week as a tester. They are great cars for sure! But compete more with the standard M3. The M3 Comp with xDrive is more like a GTR and just books it with traction all day. Very different drive with AWD vs the RWD cars.
Yeah those are great cars too. But more on par with the standard M3. The M3 Comp with xDrive is a step up and a different animal to drive
@@speeddemon311 all the interiors today are plastic screens and gloss black shiny crap that scratches if you breath on it.. nothing is really built extremely well anymore it’s all about cutting down costs
@@cbruno12180 the screen isnt bad at all in person, and alfa is known for reliability and gm for quality issues

@@BrosFOURRSpeed I have driven both, not saying they don’t handle well just the f80 felt a lot more planted while the g80 felt like I wanted to let loose. Can’t say how the Xdrive one handles only drove a rwd model.
Drive the xDrive. I've driven a ton of the new ones in xDrive and several older ones. It so planted. Feels like my old GTR. Very solid car. I've only driven a RWD one once and it was on city roads. But we had an M4 Comp for a week and did a mountain trip. Insane performance
The M2 is better than the RS3 .
Depends on what you need out of a car for daily driving! M2 wouldn't be nearly as capable on rainy days, or especially wintertime!
Ok. This video was showcasing the M3 vs RS3. Planning to film the M2 vs RS3 next week. Personally I’d pick the M2 over the RS3 as well. However my wife wanted 4 doors and didn’t care about a manual. So depends on what you need out of the car. AWD and 4 doors make the RS3 more practical and usable. I’d only get the M2 in a manual. Getting it in the auto makes it a toss up between the RS3
