JSU SOP got that power fasho, & sounded good as well, SU TOP came with arrangements & sound .. very good battle imo, more of a preference.

Why are people surprised. SU has never been a fanfare type of band. But JSU trumpets can't be heard when they play with the band. During the fanfare they sound better. Maybe it's just the arrangements. Every SU song I hear their trumpets. That's what SU is good at. The entire band playing. The arrangements are better for JSU on fanfares though
Thatâs whatâs been keeping JSU back from taking the top spot, but that all changed in 2014-2016ish. Idk they started recruiting more trumpets or changing their arrangements, but Trump Funk is heard now & theyâve been kicking everyoneâs ass for a while now

@@terrorblossom4829 lol SUâs drum line isnât horrible. Theyâre just different..they donât have quints, quads, tonals, etc & they stay in the pocket. Iâve always heard Doc Greggs arranged it like that because he wanted them to sound like a drum set. Their snares are chopping everything & I donât even have to say anything about the cymbal section..the original Z phi Z & every HBCU cymbal line emulates or add a new flare to what SUâs line created.

Both sections arrangements did not translate well across the field.. young arrangers have to consider this when writing this was a bit underwhelming.. a fan of both bands tho..

Honestly that battle was trash. JSU should of brought more of their âheatâ fanfares!!âŠ.I wish jsu played that âall for the moneyâ fanfare, that would of killed SU. Ivâe been a firm believer that JSU has the best and most consistent Trombone section out of all HBCUâs but southern won this based of song selection. JSU know they have some nice fanfares. Bring it out!!!!!!! Lol
