other artists have done than to know what
the audience (claims to) want.

You'd think that they want what they tell you to do
but it will be an instant turn-off for them once you
start doing that.
Look at what worked previously with them,
that's the best and only indicator you can have.

The formal art essence of Will Toledo is definitely a good part to point out. For such an intimate project as CSH, there's Always been an element of "But we won' t let ourselves become the art (no we'll never sink that low)" and the layers that comes with that.
A lot of negative responses to MaDLO seem to come from a wrong place, of feeling owed by Will Toledo, as if the other members do not contribute, as if the growth that has occured, or he ground that has been covered wasn't factored into the creation. I don't Love MaDLO, but it's hardly a sudden switch up on thesis for the boys and has great elements. Excited for what's to come, and to see how the album is executed live.... Whenever that happens.
