    Even in our '4 season' fifth wheel, there were no heating pads or strip on either of the waste water valves. And since gate valves are often not 100% tight, even a tiny bit of water could get around them and hit the cap, freezing in the winter and making it impossible to remove the cap to dump our waste water. So, I got a 30' length of heat strip to heat both of those and the water lines that run to our kitchen in the back of our RV. With that in place, no more freezing! Bottom line: be prepared to do some modifications to even a '4 season' fifth wheel to deal with sub-freezing temps.

    One of the biggest problems with the RV industry is the lack of a certification organization/process. Any dealer can simply claim that their RV is 4-season, full-time, or anything else that they want to because there is no independent organization that has standards and testing that must be met in order to obtain a certification that the RV is what the manufacturer says it is. Please DO NOT say that the RVIA performs this function, because it does not. The RVIA is a manufacturers association that is little more than a club with a sticker. Also, any government ‘standards’ that must be met are simply road safety requirements for towed items.

    Is more heat lost in the underbelly compared to uninsulated windows, even if enclosed?

    I have lived in my rv for 7 mos. Even through 112f summer and 22f winter. I have found ways to deal. Mine is a 2023 heartland mallard idm27. Love it for 1 oerson. But its only 30 amps. One ac. So i put a window unit in my bedroom window so i dont lose sleep. 8k btu. I run 2 extra extension chords into my rv. I also know wjat i can run at same time and have to juggle some. The roof ac pulls 2750 watts at start up im told, yikes so i have to be careful. I trickle my water in sub 35 degrees weather. No tank heaters. So far no issues even at 22

    I'm shocked he didn't cover heated belly through forced heat. I know I often hear that when shopping for an RV. I would ask about heated tanks, and they would say no, but it has a heated belly through forced heat. I just got an RV with heated tanks and a forced heated underbelly.

      @calledtojourney Před 4 měsíci

      The catch with a heated underbelly is that it's only heated when your propane furnace is running. So, even if you have an electric heat pump or you're using space heaters, both of which are MUCH cheaper to run than your propane furnace, you have to run the furnace to keep the underbelly warm.

      @Corkyrooster Před 4 měsíci +1

      Yup. I have that but almost useless as i use electric heaters sooo it isnt getting heated without my furnace on.

      @@calledtojourney when i use a radiator heater it heats up my floor quite warm so that works. I sit it right over the tanks.

      @Corkyrooster09er i boondock all the time. I have a generator if needed, which I don't use very often because I use my solar. So, having both helps out a lot.

    • @calledtojourney

      We too have a lot of solar, but if we want to run our heat pump much for heating or cooling, we have to run our generator.@@markacamacho

    I’ve got a question. I just bought a toy hauler with a solar plus package and it runs my fridge, living room AC and outlets all run on solar. I also have a generator. Here is the question if an EMP happened or a (Carrington Evemt) happened how can I make sure my RV is EMP proof

    ACs - do you truly need 2 ACs in an 18 ft TT in hot climates?

    Major miss!!!! You did not address single vs double pane windows, a big cause of heat & cooling loss.

      In Canada, we cover our windows with the clear sheets applied with a hair dryer. For us, works to at least -20 Celsius.

    Let’s get real, I don’t care what they say a rv is about as well made and insulated as a cardboard box

      Really? Ours is made for up here. We winter camp, and with a rug over our laminate, it's cozy at -20 C.
