  • I popped open the second box and we look at the first two albums inside. Boy, I am loving inspecting these new purchases and enjoy the fact that they are neatly organized/cataloged. There are many, many more videos yet to come of this new collection!

That was a treat - another video from you within a day or so. Nice! 🙂Thanks! I guess you had to order breakfast to work. 😄 The three neighbouring British colonies, Kenya, Uganda and Tanganyika (KUT) formed a joined postal association and issued joint stamps. Later Tanganyika and Zanzibar formed Tanzania. Tanzania stayed part of KUT, until KUT dissolved in about 1976, and separate postal offices were found in the three separate countries. (Thus, at some stage in KUT "Tanganyika was replaced by Tanzania" on the joint stamps as you saw.)

Tanganyika was a German colony captured by Brit Com forces in WWI. The country was renamed Tanzania after independence and amalgamated with the Brit Com protectorate of Zanzibar. Cheers J from Qld//

You could always use the mint US stuff for postage.

I noticed the trend is $1.00 for plate blocks across the board. No matter if 4c or 10c from what I see on ebay. My fav go to stamp company was Plate Block Stamp Company. Probably not around anymore.

Thank you, of course for more valuable issues it would be different but for common ones that sounds like a great rule of thumb!

I bought a few plate block and loose c46 airmail. The pb is around $8. My fav stamp is the Austrian drug awareness stamp, Scott #938 and my fav US stamps are Kansas Statehood with the sunflower and Traffic safety. I could keep my binders on the shelf and not look at them for a few years, then I will take the binders and look at them and romance on them. I've collected and quit several times giving my stamps away to someone's nephew and then recollect. Now it is mostly plate blocks.@@KylesStamps

If it were less, dealers would seek some other trade. I would say that is reasonable in the $1 range. I could drag coin hobby into this and I will. Premiums are excessive and I do understand the silver and gold intrinsic value After figuring spot price and tacking on 20 to 30% premium. Stamps, yeah, 12c value on a plate block going for a $1, Someone will say where's the paper value? @@KylesStamps

Ayn Rand was an anti-communist author. Her best known novel is Atlas Shrugged. Remember the Maine was a famous Spanish-American war slogan. Alexander Calder was mostly a sculptor. The pages at the end of the first book are White Ace pages. I love White Ace pages. I can tell you about civets. They are instrumental in making the most expensive coffee in the world- Kopi Luwak. The civets eat the coffee berries and are fermented in their bellies. Then the remains are collected in their poop and coffee is made. Sounds disgusting I know. I really like the pages in the second album. If you can still buy those pages you might consider taking your other stamps and adding them to these binders. Perhaps the "M" next to the numbers refers to the fact that he originally had it mint and later added used copies. Isle of Man is an island between Britain and Ireland. Kenya, Uganda and Tanganyika all became separate countries. Later Tanganyika and Zanzibar united to form Tanzania. Just an FYI Tanganyika was a German colony (German East Africa) that the British took over after WW1. Prior to that you will find British colony stamps that just say Kenya and Uganda.

MMM nothing like digested coffee beans, lol. I got mixed up and thought Kenya, Uganda & Tanganyika merged into Tanzania.. oops. Thanks for all the great info!

None of those blocks are really worth more than face value. The maeket for plate blocks post 1920 is non-existent right now and dealers basically will break them up or sell as discount bulk.

Frankly, full cat should never be considered even remotely accurate for anything after perhaps 1910, IMO. Anything after WWII......I only consider face value.
