Carlos Vega can really channel Jeff’s feel in any songs that Jeff played. And I notice that a lot of songs that Jeff’s recorded in studio, Carlos Vega was the player in live versions. And he (carlos) play it like the studio version.
Great song written by the amazing ERIC TAGG who also sang the original with Ritenour, David Foster praised Tagg for this ballad and his awesome soulful singing on the tune. Nice
Real life musicians right there kids!!!! Never be another time like the 70's/80's west coast AOR , jazz, soul, r&b sound. RIP Mr Vega. He was a one of a kind drummer.
I'm sad I only found this song just now but I'm glad I got to listen to this. Got here after listening to Toshiki Kadomatsu's Weekend Fly to the Sun album.
I remember watching this video for the first time many years ago. During these years, it was difficult to find any rock, blues, jazz or even metal videos in Bulgaria. I was captured by his unique style, not exactly a rock guitarist, not too jazzy, very much Rit :))) The second thing was the voice of Phil, one of the sweetest male voices ever.
Fabulous players. But if you play a 12/8 syncopated strut at that tempo, you got yourself a swing shuffle with a walking bass. That's how I know it's too fast. Check the Porcaro and Hungate version on RIT
@@erictagg1599 I’ve listened to that album probably 100 times in the past four years, it’s one of my favorites, and you are incredibly talented. Hunsgste and Porcaro are excellent as you mentioned! Thank you again for your wonderful compositions and music.
Was it the synth player? He was definitely playing the bassline at the intro and during his little break. UPDATE: Nah, probably not. Heard a couple passages that definitely sounded like an actual bass.
All one needs to know about the voice of Phil Perry is personified in Lee's response to Phil.... Start at 3:00-great solo: you see Rit cue Phil at about 3:15 and watch Lee's response! Priceless!!
@Theri48 i honestly don,t know other than what i said in my previous comment! it was on the abracadabra album by miller that i became aware of john. then when he sang on the ritenour album banded together in 84' i realised who he was .he sang on the tracks Mandela and operator(thief on the line) great album! still available.
FAVOURITE VERSION. THIS WHOLE SHOW IN JAPAN. M O V E S. THIS BAND. WAS SOLID P.SL. LEE EVER GO TO CANADA. ?P.P.S. 335 Gibson. Semi hollow where it bites. LEE SOLOS. FLY!
@Theri48 i think people prefer the eric tagg version, but this is great with phil perry and john massaro on vocals and cowbell(from the steve miller band) .rit is awesome one of my favourites along with lukather, carlton ,graydon and parks!
This is just one of those videos/songs/genres where I can appreciate the exquisite musicianship, but cannot stand the song. I'm sure there are better examples of that phenomena, but this is a good one.

Phil Perry, what a voice!
I grew up listening to him sing along with Ron Kenoly on the album "God is able".
I'm sad I only found this song just now but I'm glad I got to listen to this. Got here after listening to Toshiki Kadomatsu's Weekend Fly to the Sun album.
Just wonderful musicality, talent on every instrument:and that voice! Nothing to compare in 2023 - WHY - Might it ever return?

The speed of this live version reminds me of movie That Thing You Do, when the drummer accidentally speeds up the song. this is awesome!
So sorry that Carlos Vega has passed away so young and plentiful od talent !!! RIP
All one needs to know about the voice of Phil Perry is personified in Lee's response to Phil.... Start at 3:00-great solo: you see Rit cue Phil at about 3:15 and watch Lee's response! Priceless!!

Highly recommend the Live at the Coconut Grove concert.
