Everyone is saying this has big spring day vibes, but I don't think so. Just because the chorus is similar doesn't mean that it's anything like it. This song is about someone in Yoongi's past. It seems like a childhood best friend that got into some illegal shit, sounds like drugs, and got sent to jail for a bit. And when he was released he definitely wasn't the same person Yoongi had spent his childhood with. Some of the lyrics sound like Yoongi has such regret for not being able to stop his friend from going down that path. This song is such an insight to his personal life, and I'm genuinely shocked he let us in that far.

Yup and it's sad. It's sadder for me since my best friend went into the wrong path and i told her why she said she wants to and she started acting differently with me. She became more distant to me. Then 2 days ago she said it's better if we aren't friends which made me sad since i loved her a lot. Even more than myself i asked why she said "we fight a lot" she didn't think twice about saying that. Did she not think about why i was trying to hold her back? Probably not. She's a person who would be lonely and she wanted new friends but she didn't know how which she only had me. I stayed by her side no matter what and now she says that it's better if we aren't friends which hurts. I kinda tried to get over it but i didn't really succeed. I've had my best friend go toxic and its rlly harder than you think esp because I spent 3 years being her friend and at the last year she starts gossiping abt me talking to my other friends. You are an introvert, the definition of introvert is someone who avoids conversation and socializing, and one who likes being by themselves . Yoongi doesnt seem completely like an introvert . In fact he likes conversation just that he likes his personal space, dont confuse that with wanting to be alone.
Online friends arent real friends, he craves ppl (other than the members) whom he can have a decent conversation with and just goof around with , he wants a friend and yet ppl are confusing this with being an introvert.
I personally feel this song is in a way connected to the previous mixtapes song ' the last' and the song with iu 'eight' because in all three (I'm not sure if there are more)he mentions friendship and in both it seems like hes scared to make another friend whom he trusts so much because hes scared of losing them. He'd rather be lonely than grow to be lonely and this is so prominent esp because in iu song eight he talks about being on an island(and a song with someone who says if this is how love is I dont want to love anymore , I'll just revisit the memories which I have). Maybe that's why he wanted to collab with iu , otherwise why would he collab with someone who wrote a song very very personal and meaningful to her .

He's probably been so busy that he can barely spend any time with his closest friends and so they're drifting apart which is why he said that he has no friends at this point. I can't imagine how much it hurts him. Also, even if your situation was similar, you are completely different people. He could feel very different in certain situations in comparison to you and it's kinda weird that you even compared your situation to his in the first place. I don't understand why you would say "it isn't as bad as you think" when you clearly don't know how Yoongi feels at all

Ik when i heard Kim Jong Wan singing i had already teared up, but that made me burst out crying. And i NEVER cry listening to songs. Esp 3:59, every time that part played i would start crying more..... it's so heartfelt and it makes my heart ache. this song is yoongi’s own pent up feelings for his old friend, who sadly became a worse person than before he went into jail. yoongi and him had been childhood friends, from sharing the same ambitious dream to walking down two completely different paths. his friend most probably did something illegal like drug abusing and got sent into jail. yoongi didn’t forget about him though, so he kept visiting him through those years while he himself was walking down the better road. when his friend finally got released but still asked him whether they wanted to do that illegal thing again together, yoongi realised that he finally lost his friend, and that he isn’t the same person he knew anymore. this song expressed yoongi’s longing, anger, sadness, disappointment and much more towards his friend. i’m actually shocked and touched at how he let us have so much insight into his personal life.

This is one of the rawest songs Yoongi has ever released. He often opens up in his raps and mixtapes but he's never written out the whole story until now. I wonder if he did this for closure. To end this chapter of his life with a friendship that obviously torments him. Maybe he thinks we can hold him accountable. Like, if everyone knows he can't go back to this person again. Finishing this album full of loneliness, anger, drinking as a coping mechanism, toxic friendships and the pains of fame - I'm genuinely worried about Yoongi's current mental health. I know this coronavirus pandemic canceled a tour and comeback they worked so hard on, but maybe it gave the members a moment of peace at the peak of their success.
"There's no me you knew, there's no you I knew, what we've changed isn't just about time" is such a thought provoking line.
When stuff happens, we're quick to always separate people in different versions of themselves depending on what time it was. But people aren't just chapters in a life, products of varying circumstances. A person is a whole, they are what they were before and they are what they are now. That friend Suga is talking about, maybe he couldn't be saved because there was nothing to save, that's just who he was, a self destructing person. I love that this line of cynicism (but maybe realism) is surrounded by other lyrics and the the chorus that express the very relatable question "what if I could have done more and changed you ?". It's just hard to know what you have the power to change and not.

I had an experience with a friend once... It was the first day of seventh grade and I couldn’t find my friends from last year, so I made friends with her. But she kept interrupting me every single time I wanted to talk. I just needed somebody to sit with at the lunch table, pretty much. I thought for a little while that we were actually friends, but then this new girl came along and basically took my place. Her and her other friend (which is actually polite and kind) was probably too shy to help me. Every time I sat at that table, I would purposely sit on the other side of my two “friends” and put my binder in front of me so I wouldn’t have to talk. I’m introverted so I was okay, but it was still kind of heartbreaking to see someone I thought was my friend replace and forget me in 0.1 seconds. Luckily, I still had ARMY. Thank you ARMY, for helping me forget the fake friendship I had experienced that made me upset. You are my real friends and my second family.

And the saddest thing is not just that he realized that he's friend changed but that he's friend didn't even considered him a friend anymore...that has happened to me quite a few times and it freaking hurts A LOT.
"You said with your eyes wide open, don't you want to try?" I think that is the pivotal line in the song. Reading that to mean that his friend knew the destruction that would come into the life of the friend to whom he offered. Reads like, after the trips to visit his friend in the detention center, supporting his friend through the trial and the release from prison ... then that offer from his friend to follow the same terrible path. And that was the breaking moment. He knew his friend wasn't who he thought he was, at all. And the drug-using friend is now asking "Are we still friends, or what?" Well ... missing those old memories is all that is left. Had a friend myself that I finally realized 'this person was just pretending, they are not the person that I thought they were'. I really miss the old version of that friend, but it is just a memory, that isn't who the ex-friend really is.

I lost contact with my best childhood friend (We were 7 when we became friends and now we are 18,so we know each other since 11 years) last year after she started to act strange and have strange friends. I wanted to help her but she always pushed me away so I was angry and let her go. After that she left school and blocked me everywhere. I just found out a month ago that she left home and had serious problems because of the new “friends” drugs etc. I was shocked about everything she told me it happened in just one year! I felt very sorry and I always think if I had just insisted all this would never happen. She told me she is now trying to get better but I have the feeling we can not be like before anymore . And I hate it . Hate my self to! She told me she wanted to stay with us (bordering school friends) , because she was happy but she was blind and didn’t realize her new friends were toxic like we always tried to make her see. I just know that since she left the friend group started to break. Now we all have good memories and wish everything was like before, but I know that it will never been the same.

The first mixtape was a cultural shock in Korea. No one really talk about depression , anxiety , su**ide etc that raw. He is one of the most relatable artists and the only one who is very raw with his emotions. It takes a lot of courage and pain to let this out for the world. To let the world see your scars when you as an idol are deemed to be PERFECT. He is the idol , a human whom we all can relate to regardless gender , age , culture , society etc. Min yoongi is much more beautiful at heart.

I am crying. Yoongi went through a lot in his life and I believe there are so much more things that happend in his life before. It is just incredible how he shares his life again and is open about it. Image how hard it must be standing in front of your childhod friend that you shared so many memorize with and then he straight asks to if you wanna try it too and go the wrong path (in that case probarily drugs) and you just dont know the person in front anymore. It is a slap in the face and it hurts. He hates him (with good reason) but you still miss that friend but you know you cant be friends anymore because both of you changed and it wouldnt work out.(yoongi changed because of the idol life) The question How would it be? is a answer that isnt good and it is hard to amitt it to yourself. Also you still are blaming yourself because you could have stopped him. But he couldnt have catch him. Yoongi couldnt get his friend out of the hole and he knew it but he could have stopped him.

This song swallows me with an infinite amount of such raw emotions. I respect Yoongi so much for willing to share this personal story of his. I could tell that they were very so close and had such a precious bond with each other, he means so much to yoongi that he made this beautiful song. :') I could never imagine loosing someone who I felt a deep connection with, had the most fun times together, and would always be there for you. I'm so sorry Yoongi had to go through this, or anyone else who have had a similar experience to this. I just wish the upmost best for Yoongi, and I hope he can live on being happier.

This song... it hits home way too hard for me. My best friend in the whole world is drifting away from me. 13 years old, and she is getting involved in drugs, alcohol, weed, stuff like that. She dates people that are 17, and Im so scared for her. I try to help, but I don’t know how. She pushes me away. We have been separated for 3 years now, I miss her, I still talk to her, but its not the same as to when we lived in the same country. I don’t know what to do, and I can’t bring myself to tell her that I don’t want this for her, because I don’t want her to drift further than she already is. So I continue to support her, even though I feel so scared that I would end up losing her. She isn’t the person that I became best friends with, but I still love her. I miss the sweet, kind version of her, and I can’t ask her to change. She wants to be bad, but she shouldn’t. I don’t know, I guess this is now herself.

I don't want to be delulu or something but after watching this song and yesterday's Break the silence episode I think this phase of his life leave him little traumatic, a reason he's not that social and might find difficult to make friends.
