I am Jamaican and I have always asked this question. It is very complex but rather simple. My family has never been into business but this is just my observation.
We the blacks have been conditioned to think that decent labor is the result of a good education. Regardless of how large our business grows, we view it as a side hustle to train our kids so that they can have a "good job" or "good career".
Part of the Urban decay in many black countries and cities are because building sit empty because there was no succession plan as heirs squabble over who owns the property.

Sir, There are many reasons for this:
    1. Many businesses don't last for generations because some business owners don't enrol, equip and convince their children early on in life about the business they are into.
2.Most of us don't practice what we preach in our religion. Many churches and mosques but it doesn't reflect on the society hence I myself am cautious with those who claim to be very holy. Corruption at the grassroots sometimes makes the looting politician appear like a saint.
    3. Some policies of the government in some states frustrate indigenous businesses to thrive. Infrastructural deficit of basic amenities can't be overlooked.
    4. when an innovative and productive business owner dies, his business also dies with him because most people around him are opportunists including families, friends,, neighbours and business partners etc.
Thank you sir for your educative and innovative videos.

My grandfather's multibillion naira furniture enterprise failed following his death. His children including my father, all lived overseas. I believe that widespread emigration will have a negative impact on our country, particularly family enterprises. One of the reasons I subscribed to your channel is because your comments really resonated with me, and I've been wanting to develop a viable business in Nigeria as an exit strategy. Keep doing what you're doing and provide additional guidance, particularly for persons in the diaspora, on how to create plans to return home.

Great message and question. The black race especially the African competes among themselves rather than collaboration. Greed and selfishness are responsible for the African not building legacies. There is a family laundry business in the UK (London) which started operations in 1926. The business is still existing, effectively managed from one generation to the other. Dr Apoki, thank you for your insightful and thought provoking messages.

Go to school, get a job & work for that company until you retire and survive off benefits
The business mindset in we Africans was annihilated

The vision of the average African oftentimes does not go beyond himself and his family. We reason more of immediate gratification, not generational impact. Same reason why many African politicians amass so much wealth to themselves. We need a change of mindset.

In as much as what you have said holds some grounds, the summersault government policies and the laws that are not being held are really affecting long term businesses. I would also recommend that we lend a voice to strategic government policies this helps a lot in stabilizing businesses and long term planning. This summersault policies and flippant disregard for the rule of law are dangerous forces that are above basic comprehension

It's based on orientation. We are not patience in growing businesses, and it can be seen even in our day to day life. Greater percentage of the population lost it, because of impatience. Your generation to a greater extent have even try. Thanks always for your practical life teachings.

Its funny that the world will tell us Africans are the friendliest and most welcoming people yet real life experoence suggests we cant even build successful dynasties and pass them on due to greed, lack of principles. Its very sad. Ndoum went ti America to make his money and when he returned to Ghana they shunned him.

We don’t understand that responsibility is the purpose of life. I know many rich kids, I went to school with them. Their parents are more interested in giving them a cushy life rather that passing on the sense of responsibility that would enable them take over.
Most of the families you mentioned instill in their children the sense of responsibility from day one. The kids go to work with them and they teach them everything that they know and ensure that their children understand that the businesses are more than a source of income, it’s partly service to their fellow man, creating employment for many and making products that are beneficial to others.

Most of the comments I have read are true of this post, and these are largely the reason why black people don't have enduring businesses, like in one of your posts where you said your kids are abroad, now tell me, will they want to come back to Nigeria to live with the insecurity in this Nigeria, government has no good policy to protects businesses in Nigeria , few of what they have as business policies are too stringent, coupled with the harsh economic situation of the country which are not encouraging
