  • VW Golf 16V Bike Carbs 6 Month Review
    Help us fund cancer research by buying a shirt 6ixthstage.big...
    In this video I go over my experience with my bike carb conversion on my 1992 Volkswagen Golf MK2 over the last 6 months.
    The first thing I would recommend is not to have your bike carb project car as your only car especially when you are still troubleshooting, testing, and tuning. The worst thing you want to have happen is for it to leave you stranded while you are still sorting out how to make it reliable.
    The second thing is to invest in a good AFR gauge and learn how to use it for tuning and knowing what the numbers mean to ensure you are not hurting your engine.
    Thirdly, is to be in the mindset that your project car will need more monitoring and upkeep than before.
    In conclusion, bike carbs aren't for everyone but could be worthwhile if you understand the pros and cons. They can be made reliable but require time and experimenting to improve. It can be a lot of fun!
    Let me know in the comments section and watch my playlist if you have yet to already.

      Me too man, could be better but should have more time next year to tune AFRs and what not.

      I think you'll like it especially since you have more than 1.

    I have a 92. My mechanic pulled some wires out related to emissions, said not worth replacing or finding. Owned since 98. Had some distributors, a vacuum leak, bad idle stabilizer valve. But good mechanics that know these are worth it. Mine is stock mechanically. Just Neuspeed spark plug wires 20 years new, Neuspeed chip, TT exhaust with Borla, added KW coil overs 9 years ago with Neuspeed sway bars and front strut bar. Has Zender wing.
    I bike a lot. And have a 2000 Cabrio all stock, and 15 manual Scion XB to never fail me.

      @@6ixthstage845 I only take it out like every 2-3 weeks. But it feels like a brand new experience each time. Really want to fix a few trim pieces.

    You are dead right about running a car of that age with the original factory fuel injection, I have a 1989 ford sierra 2.0i dohc and the Efi system has caused me loads of problems and nearly driven me mad trying to sort it out. Anymore problems and I am switching to bike carbs. All the best from England.

      Thanks for chiming in. Another option is to get a standalone ecu and take it to a tuner.

    Put a quality gas stabilizer/ethanol treatment in it.
    Bike carbs do not like sitting with pump gas in them over the winter.

      @6ixthstage845 not really.
      I usually stop by a motorcycle shop and get it there. The last stuff I picked up at the Harley dealer the time before at Cycle Gear.
