  • CTV News' Rachel Aiello breaks down what you need to know from this week in Canadian politics.
    After weeks of heated debates over foreign interference, the carbon tax, and capital gains, the spring sitting of Parliament largely went out like a lamb.
    MPs unanimously agreed to adjourn a few days early, after expediting a few small measures and completing votes on a final set of bills, including the budget - Rachel explains what you need to know.
    The Capital Dispatch Quote of the Week features Liberal MP Sean Casey who said his party will be pounding the pavement over the summer to try and connect with Canadians directly in an effort to turn the tide for a party that's been persistently down in the polls, while Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre sets off in an RV.
    Finally, Rachel breaks down what to keep an eye on, both next week and over the summer. There's a byelection in a key Liberal stronghold in downtown Toronto that many believe could shed light on the party's electoral fortunes in a federal election.

    Oh please, Liberals are done. Most of the country hates them, they're not magically going back to this party, more will just abandon them. Even long time Liberal voters are done.

    An issue with the electoral reform bill is the expansion of Voting Day to Three Days.
    We already have advance voting, which provides at least two weeks to get your vote in.
    No employer can deny you the ability to go and vote. They’re obligated to provide three hours of paid time off to vote under the Canada Elections Act.

    • @XetaXones
      @XetaXones Před 6 dny +2

      On paper. What they actually do is different. Ppl assert their rights and theyll get terminated. They might get severence, but employers dont have to pay that either. If the worker has money, theyll need to sue. No money, no justice, and no rights! Thats how it goes

    • @AirmanRugby6
      @AirmanRugby6 Před 6 dny +1

      @@XetaXones I think the argument still stands that you have the advanced voting period and the voting day itself. You need to prioritize voting accordingly and take the right seriously, unfortunately many do not.
