I live in Oregon and that octagonal building in the Columbia river gorge is called Crown Point. When Mt. St. Helens blew its top my son and I jumped into the car to get to Crown Point. It was nearly due south of the mountain and I will never forget the sight. There was no chance we could see the mountain on the other side of the river but the ash ejection cloud was the most powerful thing I have and ever will witness on this planet. Ungodly malevolent feeling. We live in the Willamette valley in the western half of the state in the big trees. We woke up at the beach one morning and by later that night were skiing down Mt Hood. We are about equidistant from either the beach or the mountains and it is less than 80 miles from either one from our house. Perfection. The eastern half of the state is desert. I don't do desert. I prefer the big ancient Douglas Fir trees. Come to Oregon sometime and see Crater Lake and the Oregon Caves, miles of white sand beaches that are by state law, 100% free access to the public.

Michigan has 2 National Lakeshores that are huge tourist destinations that I'm surprised were not mentioned. Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore which is miles of enormous sand dunes along Lake Michigan and Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore which are sandstone cliffs along Lake Superior. There is also a National Park in Michigan called Isle Royale. It is an island in Lake Superior. Other big tourist spots for natural beauty are Lake of the Clouds, Tahquamenon Falls, Turnip Rock and Kitch-iti-kipi which is the largest freshwater spring in Michigan. Michigan also has 129 lighthouses and Mackinac Bridge (pronounced Mackinaw). Mackinac Bridge is a suspension bridge 5 miles long connecting the upper and lower peninsulas. States like Kansas got six votes and Nebraska got 13 votes like he said at the beginning, so if you add up the 40 states that didn’t make this list. @darkjedi74 Před 7 měsíci

@@impishsongster333 I would submit to you that if you don’t think AK is diverse, perhaps you’ve been misinformed about it. It has far and away more variety of geologic and ecologic zones of any state in the nation, by a very wide margin. From towering, majestic mountains and volcanoes, glaciers, tundra and taiga terrain, over 6 million lakes, to rainforests in the southeast. It is far from a land that stereotypes would suggest is all ice and igloos. It is also a land that is teeming with more wildlife than any other state, as man has had far less impact on it. Climate zones within the state vary radically. From moderate and damp year-round in the south east, cold, with heavy snow in the winter in the south Central, while mild in the summertime, yet in the interior, they see the most extreme temperatures between winter and summer of anywhere on earth, seeing temperatures as cold as -80° in the winter, and up to 95° in the summertime. Yeah, still other places, like Turnagain Arm, and the Aleutian Islands see some of the most ferocious sustained winds on earth.

I believe 20:40 is downtown Telluride, Colorado. Butted up against a mountain, there was only one way in and out. In 1889, Butch Cassidy robbed his first bank, the San Miguel Valley Bank. Great skiing resort now but beautiful year around.

Washington is often ignored, but it's a shame, because the beaches on the northeastern part of the state are beautiful. Ruby Beach is a favorite. And the Hoh Rainforest is amazing, and unique. There are multiple mountain peaks, with Mt. Rainier being able to be seen from multiple places.

I agree that Upstate New York is beautiful. I would make it #12 behind Washington state. New York's beauty with The Adirondack Mountains, Catskill Mountains, Finger Lake region, numerous waterfalls and gorges, Niagara Falls, Glens Falls, Letchworth State park which is also known as the "Grand Canyon of the East". Surprisingly, New York has 2,000 waterfalls.

Exactly. These lists hardly ever touch on the Northeast. More biased towards the more commonly recognized (& gorgeous) places. Get off the beaten track. It can be rolling hills, pretty lakes & quaint villages too. Yeah, I know its supposed to be natural areas but little NEng villages are so nice. (South Jersey farmers daughter)

They figured out all 7200 Philippine islands can fit in Colorado. I drove over the Rocky Mountains in Colorado before and reach an elevation of over 14,000 feet above sea level. If you have breathing problems like asthma you probably shouldn't go up that high, you could suffer from apoxia and pass out. It's a super curvy road and has places where you can pull off the road and take in the views.

Usually this guy is on target, but he got fundamentally confused about Montana vs. Wyoming. Montana has Glacier National Park up near the Canadian border. That's its #1 attraction. Wyoming is primarily known for Yellowstone and Grant Tetons National Parks. 96% of Yellowstone is in Wyoming. Only 3% is in Montana (with 1% in Idaho), and there are no attractions or lodgings within the Montana portion of the park.

You have extra consideration for a trip with a little one. I did a three week car trip from Michigan to Montana with a planned 5 day backpack into the mountains when my kids were 4 and 1. But I knew they traveled well and we practiced hiking and camping. And when the mountain we were on caught fire during our dinner we had backup plans. Many kids can't handled the long hours tied into a car seat, many parents might want less planning.

We have been to all 50 states, most more than once, and the train ride from Denali down to Seward is one of the most amazing things we have done.
We loved the Big Island of Hawaii-it is less commercial than some of the others and dining near Kilauea after dark was a highlight.
Love Northern California... too many things to list.
Niagara Falls, New York is a fantastic place to see, but you need to go to both sides to get the full effect.
South Dakota is amazing with many things to enjoy.
And of course Grand Canyon is a must see
The drive through the Appalachian Mountains is breathtaking.
Every state has their own things making the trip worthwhile. I am not sure about mailing outside the states, but most will mail you a travel brochure showing the highlights.
. I am surprised Oklahoma did not get any votes. It is rich in history and has some nice places to explore.
I could go on and on, but every state has things I would go back to see again.

The building on the round curved road in Oregon is the Vista House at Crown Point. It is a viewing area. Stunning view up the Columbia river gorge. Built during the early part of the 1900's as a roadside stop for the old East/West Columbia River Highway there. Still beautiful. And yes, the building has a basement/cellar, but it is nothing too deep or interesting, which takes nothing away from the rest. Lovely place to stop and look.
