Spend the minimum amount of time on the videos. You have kids: your life belongs to us or to them? Creating a good working environment is great but as you get older, climbing those threes will be more and more difficult. So keep your nose on the grinding stone and keep the "idle" time shorter. Type "A" people do not like decorations. I watch your stuff because it is raw... keep it that way.

Thats was awesome. And so was the message at the end back in 2006 my son was 6 and begged me to stay home from work. I was a coal miner I had volunteered to work extra shift he cried for me to stay home and that was something he never did was cry. Well long story short I was crushed that night rock fell on me it was 9ft x 4ft x 1 foot thick. Almost year to learn walk again wore a turtle shell and was told I'd never work again and wouldn't be able to walk by the time I was 50. He fussed at me for years told me if I would of listened it would of never happened lol. Ive been working ever since except that one year i was layed up. I worked light duty till 2012 now im 41 been welding for a while and getting ready to start my own tree business up. Your so right about those blessings thats what has kept me pushing threw the pain and teaching my kids to keep going never give up.
I am 65 years old and have had a bead most of my beard growing life. I totally understand toast and other foreign matter in my beard. My response has always been... The dogs love me and that's all that matters...
31 years in this industry and 6 kids along the way. Love the little things in lunch box, boots and the lovins from my kids. Makes my entire day. Or seeing employees get the reminders from their kids. God Bless

I am continually impressed by how you tackle these jobs. What I find most impressive is that you take the time to do a thorough assessment and come up with a plan of action. It doesn't seem like your trying to rush to next job or thinking about things at home or the office. I also find my kid's toys inside my White's Smokejumpers. A little reminder that we all want to go home and see our family at the end of the day. Your videos always fill me with a sense of community, brotherhood, and love. Thank you.
Love my job(different field from you), love the work, but I don't do it because of that. I do it to provide a better life for my family. We sleep in a comfortable safe house in a good neighborhood, with food on the table and clothes on our backs, because I do battle every day to keep the wolves away from us. If all I saw it as was a boring office job, I'd burn out in a week, but it's infinitely more than that. I get up in the morning and go do righteous battle against the wolves and darkness that would swallow my family. Yeah, I'm made for this too.
As a guy starting out in this business - only about a year in, I really appreciate your videos! So many aspects of them... and I like how I can identify so well! The adrenaline rush when you start the back cut way up in the air, the puckered cheeks as the tree starts to tilt, the satisfaction of nailing it (or the relief when things go wrong but people are safe afterward)... and the appreciation of going home safely to a loving family knowing that you are the man responsible to provide - and you're doing it!

You probably wonder (if you notice, which you just may) why I just kind of skip around your videos leaving notes like this one, I'm often up all night, I'm watching my mother with altzheimers and I have some health issues myself and don't often get through a night without some YT. That usually involves watching August and his gang take down a few dicey trees. I've learned a lot for a guy who may take down a tree or 2 every couple years, but I like to learn, even though I well know my limits and won't be trying any aerial work, I find it comforting to know more than I did. Thanks for your time, and you guys are truly blessed, enjoy it al long as you can, as I tell my sons, do it while you can, for you can't imagine how fast time moves. Toys in the boots... we did that with Grandpa's whites when we were kids... He was pole climber for Rural Electric in Montana back in the 60's. We thought it was fun.. more importantly, we were just saying "We love You" 💕😎😎

My kids put stuff in my boots until they left home so I took it out and got on with my day. When my oldest son married his wife stayed round one time and decorated my boots with glitter and small chicks. I couldn't take them off and they lasted a week of strange looks and laughs. So it goes on round the world. Cheers

Hey Augus and Crew. You commented on not being able to have a visual or good visual of the tension when pulling the top of the tree for topping. There was no sight reference. Look at the large branch on the right side around timeline 9:30 "You have good command", and you have a reference point with the other trees. You can actually see how much tension you have on the top. You and your crew keep up the awesome work!!!!
Hi august, I've been blessed with beautiful children all grown up now and I sometimes had to drive up to 300 miles away and then start to do a days work not much fun getting up at 4am and then driving for 4 hours but to keep my concentration on the road I used to say to myself drive carefully don't take unnecessary risks because you don't want your children looking into a grave and grieving for a lost father and it certainly helped me to be more considerate, yes we need to provide but seeing your families smiling loving faces makes it all worthwhile

Good to observe the cut and grain that’s how we improve the brain! I have seen that runout happen at the butt and the tree went off lay. This is the reason we avoid making hinges through knots. Love for all the tree people! 👍❤️

It is funny the comment you made about shaking the boots to see if an scorpion got in. That happened to me when i use to live in my hometown I forgot to shake the boot and I got stung by a black scorpion. Half of my body got numb for the whole day. It wasn't a good day.

Love all your videos August. Wish I could spend some time on your crew, but I'm in the opposite corner of the US in north Georgia so I settle for the videos. I love seeing the work you do, hearing the thought that goes into it and the philosophy of life that you spin into all your stories. I had an idea as you were trying to show the lean of that tree. It's hard to know what's vertical when the camera is moving around, but you could hold a simple plumb bob (any weight on a string) in the video showing it along with the whole tree to provide a good reference for the amount of lean you're dealing with. Keep up the good work. Praying that you and your family and crew will have many more years of blessings.
August I had that very same rope and zigzag setup as well. It did the same thing, actually I ended up stopping using it because the core was pushing out the end! I would trim it off and it kept doing it. It wasn’t even 7 months old and I turned it into a junk pull line. Just my input fella!

Toys in the boots... we did that with Grandpa's whites when we were kids... He was pole climber for Rural Electric in Montana back in the 60's. We thought it was fun.. more importantly, we were just saying "We love You" 💕😎😎

My kids put stuff in my boots until they left home so I took it out and got on with my day. When my oldest son married his wife stayed round one time and decorated my boots with glitter and small chicks. I couldn't take them off and they lasted a week of strange looks and laughs. So it goes on round the world. Cheers

Hey Augus and Crew. You commented on not being able to have a visual or good visual of the tension when pulling the top of the tree for topping. There was no sight reference. Look at the large branch on the right side around timeline 9:30 "You have good command", and you have a reference point with the other trees. You can actually see how much tension you have on the top. You and your crew keep up the awesome work!!!!

Hi august, I've been blessed with beautiful children all grown up now and I sometimes had to drive up to 300 miles away and then start to do a days work not much fun getting up at 4am and then driving for 4 hours but to keep my concentration on the road I used to say to myself drive carefully don't take unnecessary risks because you don't want your children looking into a grave and grieving for a lost father and it certainly helped me to be more considerate, yes we need to provide but seeing your families smiling loving faces makes it all worthwhile

Good to observe the cut and grain that’s how we improve the brain! I have seen that runout happen at the butt and the tree went off lay. This is the reason we avoid making hinges through knots. Love for all the tree people! 👍❤️

It is funny the comment you made about shaking the boots to see if an scorpion got in. That happened to me when i use to live in my hometown I forgot to shake the boot and I got stung by a black scorpion. Half of my body got numb for the whole day. It wasn't a good day.

Love all your videos August. Wish I could spend some time on your crew, but I'm in the opposite corner of the US in north Georgia so I settle for the videos. I love seeing the work you do, hearing the thought that goes into it and the philosophy of life that you spin into all your stories.
I had an idea as you were trying to show the lean of that tree. It's hard to know what's vertical when the camera is moving around, but you could hold a simple plumb bob (any weight on a string) in the video showing it along with the whole tree to provide a good reference for the amount of lean you're dealing with.
Keep up the good work. Praying that you and your family and crew will have many more years of blessings.
August I had that very same rope and zigzag setup as well. It did the same thing, actually I ended up stopping using it because the core was pushing out the end! I would trim it off and it kept doing it. It wasn’t even 7 months old and I turned it into a junk pull line. Just my input fella!

When you use the "skip ahead 5 seconds" button you can see how much the top shifted when you applied the pre tension. Moved the whole top over 3 feet.
