@@TripleDice I preordered it but i think it was limited to preorders. Kinda like Chained Echoes. I missed that preorder and now I can't find a single physical version. Both are on Steam and switch digitally tho.
@@TripleDice maybe could also be dependant on region if you're trying to get it on console. I saw a tweet about that.

I lost track of time because while I knew the game was coming out later this year, I didn't realize the game was about to come out already.
I agree with that statement, David's positive energy just puts me right on the hype train for anything he is excited about. But that is also why I love this channel 😊

it looked so insanely generic I never understood the comparisons to games like SoM but I'm glad it's apparently turned out good but there's already an awesome modern day 3d SoM called Trials of Mana :)
Step 1: Play Trinity Trigger until August 28th. Step 2: Buy Sea of Stars, which comes out August 29th. Step 3: Play Sea of Stars until Eiyuden Chronicles comes out. Step 4: Play Eiyuden Chronicles until Nirvana is achieved.

Memories of searching for The Secret of Mana just flood in. My parents searched everywhere and couldn't find a copy, and later that week, we are in Sears so my father could grab some tools. I check the electronics kiosk and find a copy of Mana, paid the 80 bucks, and let it quickly become one of my favorite rpgs of the SNES era. I was a huge Square fanatic and up until the current generation have bought nearly every title that has released on release day. I still have my FF7 prerelease t-shirt.
I miss Sears. Such an odd and great department store.
$80. Exactly what I remember. Back in 94 or so that was crazy expensive. Those SNES AAA titles could get expensive.

I love Secret of Mana, Secret of Evermore, Trials of Mana… I even loved the PS4 remake of Secret of Mana. There is a simplicity in games like these that is missing in games today. It is a welcome throwback.
I got Secret of Mana in 1993 and played until I beat it. It has remained one of my all time favorite titles to this day.
Trinity Trigger looks to give me that same warm fuzzy feeling all over again. I cannot wait to dive deep into this old-school action RPG. I prefer this to Souls and Elder Scrolls. It’s just good old fun with a simple, but fun story.

Secret of Mana was pivotal for me, too! I loved that game to death. Still a big fan of the turn-based combat, but there was just something unique and fun about Secret of Mana's combat system, and the music and atmosphere... It brings me back, man!

My excitement is through the roof! Secret of Mana is such a nostalgic game for me. I never got into modern action RPGs so far, but many of the classic ones are among my all-time favorite games. Add in rewards for obsessive exploration and you might have an absolute gem of a game.

I cannot wait for tomorrow not only to get this and Fairy Fencer but to see the actual bonus merchandise you get for the Day 1 Edition for the same price as a new game! Been waiting forever for this and was able to play maybe 10 min here and there at Pax East 2023 here in Boston.
I love the paintbrush style environmental textures, haven't seen those around for ages - the last time i saw those were probably large over world zones in World of Warcraft. I'm going to get this game as a huge Secret of Mana and then Trials of Mana Remake fan, thanks for the great review.

Seiken Densetsu 3 (known as Trials of Mana now that it finally has gotten an English release) is one of my favorite games of all time, so anything playing like the original Seiken Densetsu games is immediately on my "to buy" list 😅
I'm more used to call the mana games Seiken Densetsu, as my dad bought me games from Asia when I was a kid, so I had a lot of Japanese games growing up 🙂

I was just like you, I got Secret of Mana around Christmas of '93 too. Loved it and have replayed more times than I can remember.... and now this game is definitely is on my radar now.

I saw this game on the Nintendo shop this week and overlooked it. Secret of Mana HAS to be in my top 10 favorite games list, so I will check this out, now that you have compared the two. Without your comments, I would have overlooked this game.

This looks excellent; I've really been looking forward to this one ever since you first mentioned it on this channel. The magic thing doesn't even bother me that much, because a few summers ago, I decided to complete a no-magic run of Secret of Mana, just to see what it was like fighting the bosses with actual weapons, and it was a blast. I do have a question, though: does dodging consume stamina, or just attacking?

I had big faith in this one given the team behind this, and man oh man, I'm so glad this is what I was hoping it was going to be - I knew it! I'm a huge fan of the original Mana games too (I similarly got Secret of Mana at Christmas when I was younger, and spent my whole Christmas break playing it) - I can't wait to pick it up tomorrow at the store via my preorder - excited this is sounding like a hit, and harkening back to those early Mana days (which were peak of the series imo) - great review as always :).

This looks like a well done secret of mana clone was the first thing I said when I saw the announcement trailer. It’ll be in my backlog for a little bit but I’m definitely looking forward to it.
There's so much good indie stuff coming out all the time now that this completely flew under my radar. Secret of Mana is one of my childhood favorites and i could feel nostalgia flooding over me just watching a bit of gameplay so I'll definitely be getting this. 😍

I'm so glad you liked this. I saw another review that didn't really enjoy it. Had complaints like "you have to use the weapon wheel to equip weapons" and "the bosses have too much HP." Seemed unneccessarily harsh on a game that's supposed to be a throwback. I'll pick up the Steam version at some point. Thanks for the review as always.

Oh this is awesome. I was skepticale about the game when I pre-ordered now based on your review, I know that I am totally going to enjoy it. You can't be to careful though with so many attempted phone like ports these days and I am glad this game is not one of those.

Been watching this for awhile since you first brought it up. Now that its the eve of its release your review of it sounds right for me. The only problem I see is the price tag. It seems, from what I can find, to be a $50 game. Seems more like a $20-30 game. I finally am playing through DQ11 so I might have to wait for a sale. Keep up the good work

Thanks for the review. Like others have said, while it's not a bad game, it seems that budgetary limitations hurt the game. The lack of magic is strange. I was looking forward to the game and I still might try it out one day but it looks like there are some barriers to enjoyment.

Just got my copy in the mail, but wont touch it for a while because of my almost complete backlog. Will get it on it by the end of the year or early 2024.
I’m a big fan of SoM as well and I got TT collector edition for Xmas this year. Just popped it in yesterday and at first I wasn’t 100% sure what I thought of it but after about 2 hours I can confidently say this:
- the art style in the dialogue scenes and cutscenes is absolutely beautiful.
- even as not a huge anime fan, toggling to Japanese voice with English subs, along with the art style, makes this experience feel like watching a great anime story unfold.
- Balance. Combat isn’t too difficult in theory but still requires you to pay attention instead of just standing there spamming attacks.
Overall this game is probably only going to be about a 7.5/10 for me at the end of the day (it’s still early so this could very well change), BUT! There’s something to be said about a solid game that just manages to be an enjoyable experience without necessarily being something super great.

And it even has hand-drawn anime cutscenes! That's something I feel like we just don't get enough of from modern games
