Yes, telling my age. Welded 40years and wore my necktie every day. Heavy starched denim shirts and pants. The starched clothing lets the fine sparks roll off.

Looks like I'm heading to the hardware store for some 5/8" compression fittings! Will definitely start using this method this summer. Thanks Gerald!

I do the same thing just with a quick square knot, but I like that brass compression ring especially for summer when you got to rewet the bandanna every so often. thank you sir. I’m going to have to grab one out the box, and give it a whirl.

Use to be a lot more common in pipe work. Some guys would buy an ordinary gold wedding band sized to fit etc.
      Thank you Billy!

I work in a fabrication yard and a lot of welders wear these but a lot of them have little welding hoods instead of the brass ring. They make them out of the brass connectors from the leads :)

I use cold wet terry cloths around my neck and one tucked under my cap covering the back of my neck. Staves off heat stroke.

The Drillers Neck Tie is when we usually go Hop into the Mud pit butt naked or getting sprayed with fresh clean groundwater that you just drilled is keeping you cool . . Or I go hang my Head under the potable Water cage tanks on the back of the support trucks if it's to hot . It has to be over 100 degrees outside or it's not hot .

You can tie a knot in it, but offensive / defensive training
Will teach that something tied in a knot around an adversaries neck can be used against him as a strangulation tool.
Years ago police often wore real neckties
While on duty. After some were choked to death they went to clip on ties, then none at all.
If you use some kind of loose clasp the bandana will come apart if twisted.
      Everyone’s free to choose.
      This is my choice!
      Thank you for sharing Robert!
