- It has been reported that Israel has set up large saltwater pumps, and may be planning to flood Hamas’ tunnel network in Gaza. The Wall Street Journal reported the plan on Monday, citing unnamed US government officials as the source of the information.
There are thought to be hundreds of miles of tunnels underneath Gaza. Hamas commanders and fighters are believed to be using the tunnels to shelter from Israeli attacks. Militants also launch attacks against Israeli forces from tunnel entrances hidden all over Gaza.
Israel vowed not to send its soldiers into the tunnels unless they are already clear of Hamas fighters, fearing taking heavy casualties. It has also previously alluded to using novel techniques to ‘smoke’ Hamas out of the tunnels, turning them into ‘death traps’.
But Hamas and Israel have both acknowledged that some Israeli hostages are currently being kept in the tunnels. This would make flooding the tunnels incredibly risky, and there may not be political or public support for such a move in Israel.
Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has so far declined to comment on whether or not they are planning to flood the tunnels.

They spoke of it. Apparently even with their series of high volume, high pressure pumps, it will take days to fill the tunnels, given the size and lengths, and time for Hamas and hostages to get out.
The big issue is adding brine sea water to an already saline ground water, if would of course, make the water undrinkable, and would render the farmlands probably unusable.
It is tempting as it is the easiest route for Israel to take.
Won't work. Water will just be drained out or absorbed by ground. The tried this in Vietnam and all that happened was the people trying to flood the tunnels got killed as they were sitting ducks for hours and hours. Just shows how ineffective and desperate the IDF are getting
To be honest making that area unhabitable is probly for the best. Israel is never going to leave and the other side won't stop killing for it. One has to go and realistically its not going to be isreal. Right or wrong it doesn't matter its just facts.

They're beyond being cared for. Egypt was asked to account for them, and failed. Lord have mercy upon their souls, but the numbers of dead went up by a couple of thousand.
Intelligence suggests a large majority of them were already dead I mean they took corpses for a reason right? Israel shouldn't have to walk into a trap weakening their army when a bigger fight is clearly unfolding on all borders whilst also being forced into ceasefires by a bumbling fuckwit scared of marching morons.
It will take days to flood the tunnels. That will give plenty of time for people to leave the tunnels when they see the water rising (again, it will take days to fill all those tunnels).
But the obvious issue is that if Hamas has NOT released the hostages by now, then will they ever? (even with flood water)
