To be honest gears or war cutscenes.
I've had this being worked on for a few weeks and Gears, I've just started.
You should react to "Halo evolutions mona lisa" is a great halo horror story
The transformers war for Cybertron/ fall of Cybertron games have great cutscenes that you would love
YES!! OMG! I love Legends!
Fun note: These shorts together account for about 8% of dead Spartan IIs.
Their files read "missing in action."
The thing that makes Homecoming so much more impactful after knowing the lore is Imagine you had a child that got ill and died during the human insurections going into the covenant invasions. Once the truth came out about the spartans, you'd have to live the rest of your life wandering if the child you buried was even your own or a thing created by ONI.
Wow, yeah, never thought about that.
They touch on this in the kilo 5 trilogy and more specifically in the novel Mortal Dictata
@@skyherz5401 My favorate trilogy of books out of the 343 lore. Actually made me like Jul Mdama (till halo 4s characterization of him) and Naomi is just a fuckin badass. To anyone who hasn't read them they are honestly worth a read even if you don't like 343's content.
In regards to "The Babysitter", I do believe that is meant to be Dutch from ODST before he joined Alpha 9.
It is him and Obrian died at the crash of the pelican in halo 2
@@7kingly241 OH SHIT YOUR RIGHT
Yeah that was Dutch
@@7kingly241It's most likely not the same. O'Brien is a pretty common surname
@@7kingly241it has been confirmed to be a different O'Brien there are like four ODSTs named O'Brien in Halo.
The stealth ship in the last clip is an actual ship in the lore, the ONI Prowler. This ship specifically was a Sahara -class heavy prowler. Prowlers are primarily stealth reconnaissance ships with mine-laying capabilities.
Edit: "Heavy prowler" means it has some armaments and a bit of extra armor to defend itself better in a pinch, but they are absolutely not meant to fight in any proper engagements.
The "Yggdrasil" line was a development of exo-suits used mostly for commercial and logistics purposes, with earlier versions being used as the basis for the first drafts of Mjolnir concepts (Mjolnir, as you know, later changed to be armour).
The "Prototype" is a "Hrunting-Yggdrasil" development. "Hrunting" being an overacrching project to adapt Mjolnir technology for non-spartan uses. Basically meaning the "Prototype" was an attempt at backporting Mjolnir armour developments onto the exo-suits it started based on, to improve it and let non-Spartans have something comparable.
The main result of Hrunting-Yggdrasil you would recognize would be the Mantis mechs, starting in Halo 4 (so after the war). Though, naturally, those are quite different to what they were trying with the Prototype.
the Halo Legends soundtrack is so underrated
37:20 To be fair, Cortana is Halsey's brain in a computer, so it makes sense Halsey would sound like Cortana!
You called the plot twist on the babysitter perfectly lmao
For me, it was clear as day! It's because she didn't speak, that was the sign for me.
Fun fact, more than half of the Spartan II's died or became horrendously crippled due to the augmentations they underwent.
I really need to read the books again, such great stories.
I think my favorite of these stories is the be human one (I forgot the name) it was probably the best animated one and was so good as a short story.
Me too!
@@kaizammit Your idea of playing a Halo game as a regular marine without controlling a Spartan sounds like it could be very fun!
Some more grounded gameplay and your not this unstoppable one man army but are in fact VERY vulnerable.
Don't forget there were spartans that did fail augmentation but were eventually rehabilitated the brought back to the program. Red Team from halo wars 2 were all crippled at one point from the program but did eventually make it through
@@loganobrien8087I'd want that game to be Arma levels of difficult.
@kai Zammit
If you're not aware, the anthology "Halo Legends" was a collection of shorts; each made by a different animation studio. As you noticed, one was made by the same studio that created Dragon Ball / Dragon Ball Z and there was one made by the studio that does Robotech I think?
also I think only the dragon ball z esc one is the only uncannon one
Prototype was made by Studio Bones
Yes the same ones that did MHA, Soul Eater and FMA
@@jaidenkoch3487yeah it's the only noncanon one. I headcanon it as a cartoon that kids in the halo universe watch. Like how Godzilla used to be a terrifying force of nature but then in cartoons he got a sidekick in the form of Godzooky like 1337 is to Chief.
Gundam not Robotech, also weirdly enough Robotech is a combination of like four anime the most iconic of which being Super Defense Fortress Macross.
Alot of Halo's aesthetic drew heavily from Mobile Suit Gundam, hunters being based on the Hygogg and Mjolnir MKV supposedly being based on the GM Spartan.
29:25 It is Dutch from Halo 3 ODST but its a different voice actor unfortunately.
"Is this a vehicule in the Halo lore ?" The Space bikes were a hotrod of slapped together experimental tech and engines made specifically for this mission, according to the audio commentary. Just as well, the Prototype that gets self-destructed by Ghost would become the Mantis mech in Halo 4 and beyond.
Fortunately, The Duel is 100% canon. The story of the first Arbiter, and Sangheili culture strongly resembles samurai culture.
To be precise, the first *disgraced* Arbiter. There were many before this one, and many before the Sangheili had ever even joined the Covenant
@yobud6637 that's fair, I didn't mention the disgraced part
My favorite quote from the franchise that perfectly sums up the Halo universe.
“This Galaxy is vast; its wonders and beauty are almost unfathomable. But the galaxy also hides dark secrets, some of which have lain dormant since the beginning of time itself. There is a danger in secrets, both in seeking and in knowing. Some things are meant to be hidden from view. Some mysteries defy understanding, and sometimes even the things we think we know are untrue. Some secrets should remain untouched. Secrets can tempt your primal instinct, and lead you again into war. The Halos were one such secret.”
Studio Bones absolutely cooked on “The Prototype.”
Studio Bones burned down the whole damn kitchen! Majority if not entirety of that episode has been burned into my memory since 2010. Such an awesome story.
As a child, I would literally play this series 24/7
My dad got the dvd disk at a yard sale thinking it was game 😂
He does have a good point, a game where you play as a squad of ODST with a spartan, sent to complete a mission, and structured like HALO 3 ODST, where you play a different character for each segment and then the last one you play as the spartan, I’d be game for that, sounds fun.
The Prototype had a really big impact on me, the phrase "Be Human' really stuck with me and it's something I hold myself to.
This is awesome. Extended Halo content doesn’t get the love it deserves on CZcams. The Halo Evolution’s Stories are worth looking into as well. Thanks for the great analysis.
adeepfriedwaaaa is incorrect. the armor in "The Prototype" was the Mark III armor. The Mk 1 and Mk II were both power tethered suits. meaning they had to be plugged into a external power source. the Mk III was the first to have it's own independent power source. the Mk II and MK III did look similar and shared much of the came tech, just the III had it's own power source and was able to have greater range.
Actually the suit in the prototype epsiode was the Hrunting/Yggdrasil Mk1 ADS prototype that eventually turned into the Mantis in Halo 4.
@GuardianScholar560 The mantis was its own project (Something that was developed to look for a possible replacement for the 200 year old Scorpion tank). This was an actual Mjolnir project, they even say it in the short. It's a Mk III off shot program. i.postimg.cc/KvFB7ttL/image.jpg
The ADS you're speaking of was an off shot program built on the MK III. This may be what's confusing you. i.postimg.cc/x1wZgs5g/1200px-HRUNTING-YGGDRASIL.png
I'm pretty sure Daisy's only other appearance is in silent storm, a recent book, well worth a read
Every episode besides the first 2 were made by different anime companies, Odd One Out by Dragon Ball! Later all episodes except the one i mentioned became Canon! Halo Legends feels underrated but is such a masterpiece. There's so many key details that spoil future events like Cortanas Rampancy with her Redness and in Odd One Out them finding out an AI actually raised kids/super soldiers while being able to fully touch anything.
Canon problems in the shorts:
Origins 1:
If that's meant to be the final Halo Array, it's a bit off. At least one (Zeta Halo) was leftover from the original Halo Array (yes there were two), and was MUCH bigger than the others. Even the new ones weren't all the exact same size.
The firing of the rings didn't instantly vaporize the Flood and other stuff. It moreso liquified it. It then resulted in a gross dust or sludge that had to be decomposed. (would be MUCH more grusome)
Origins II is kinda bull at the end:
There was never some great teamup against the Flood at the end of the war, at least not on any notable scale. There WERE teamups against the Flood - but only in very very small numbers (like in Halo 1) or if you just count the Elites AFTER they allied with humanity after the Great Schism. In fact, the fact that THE FLOOD allied with humanity momentarily was kinda a huge point in Halo 3, so pretending the opposite happened was absurd.
Odd One Out: *shrugs at everything*
The Package: Obviously, Halsey doesn't run around wearing a skinsuit. Also she should be like 40 by this point if we assume its all canon.
Zeta halo was originally 30,000 km in diameter but shed some sections due to damage sustained. It was then shaped to match the six newer 10,000 km rings and tuned to fire like the newer rings. And the forerunners did indeed know what the ring does to those it kills and planned for it by releasing an agent after the rings would fire that would safely decompose the biological matter. The halo lore is vast and plentiful.
I got the impression that Cortana assumed they joined forces against the flood because she was in no position to know better.
The last sequence was the director/studio who would go on to make the two CG Starship Troopers movies. They had done a couple of well regarded Appleseed movies in the same style as the short here before moving to Starship Troopers.
There's actually a Fan animation called "Remember Reach" made by a channel called SODAZ, not sure if you've seen it, but I think you'd appreciate how he handled the setting and tone
Edit: It's on his Patron only
Second Edit: It's on Zammit's Patron only, is what I meant. I know the actual animation is on youtube.
It's also on youtube
@@Gridiron217 didn't see it, went and looked and found nothing
Its still on youtube and damn is it an epic animation
Is it just me who wants to see you interview Martin O'Donnel?!?!
That would be cool! I'd have to do some research but could be a fun idea. Not sure he'd be up for it though...?
for the episode "prototype" (copied from a commenter from a diff channel)
“Missing In Action” is the standard designation assigned to the Spartans who are KIA in order for UNSC propagandists to cultivate the idea of them being these immortal warriors; it's the reason why they say “Spartans never die.”
For Ghost to be attributed this title upon his death is essentially affording him the same degree of honor as one would a fallen Spartan.
24:05 this is the original design of the mjiolnir armor if you read fall of reach this would be the armor that the young spartan 2s and young master chief fought when they were training
There were no pictures of the Forerunners in-game at the time, so most people would not have any idea what they looked like exactly.
Halo Legends came out around the time CGI anime was really taking off, and most people hated it (Myself included). It just looks so jarring, and so bad compared to the normal animation methods.
That is Dutch from Halo ODST.
24:19 the UNSC had devolping Mechs long before the Spartan program this was one of the projects
If you liked these, you'd probably enjoy the animations/motion comics they made out of the major stories from Halo Evolutions. The Return, Midnight in the Heart of Midlothian, Mona Lisa, and HeadHunters.
The Mona Lisa and the Head Hunters have to be my favorite Halo stories lol
Im so upset with how there handling the halo tv series when we have masterpieces like these...
I've not seen season II yet, might cover the first episode for you guys on here.
@@kaizammit Don't bother, that show is trash, it's not halo.
Dude, didn't expect Legends. Glad your watching it, If you want another Halo animation anthology. There's also Halo Evolutions. I don't think you can watch all it's episodes in a single video like Legends, it ranges from a few 15 minute videos, to an hour or two long movies. But i'd put Headhunters and Mona Lisa as my favourites from it.
And yeah, that was dutch from h3:odst
''rightious souls continue to fight believing that they could defeat the darkness. And as they fought together, they stumbled together. Into peace'' and then the amazing soundtrack that is sacred icon suite in the background and hitting off as that line ends and goes into the vieuw of everyone working together.
origins 2 is just in my eyes the best piece of halo ever made. i get teary eyes everytime i watch it
In the babysitter you see two characters that show up later on. Dutch who is the same from ODST and O’Brien who dies on the pelican that crashes in Halo 2.
So In ghost it’s basically mk3 power armor designed originally to be the precursor to actual Spartan army allowing individuals access to well becoming a one man army, however due to its massive price tag along with its unstable power supply made the MK3 power armor practically useless in full scale deployments along with the fact that whilst it possessed a lot of firepower, as shown it lacked any real forms of protection and unlike the more modern forms of combat armor, mk3 power armor was more akin to a proverbial bird in a cage or game controller rather than through direct neural links which similarly to that of warhammer 40K power armor allows its used a much much higher level of mobility as well as response time where it no longer felt like wearing say an external cage like that of a medieval knight but instead was more akin to wearing a coat that’s also bullet proof which is why, whenever you see space marines in action their speed and reaction times are far faster than other forms of power armor, much like say the power lifter from aliens
I own a DVD of this, in Spanish. I had forgotten. It's pretty cool to see.
I always love when shows/movies use the "over and out" radio comm lol. "We'll continue this conversation, never"
The prototype suit is the prototype for the mantis, which you get to pilot in-game in halo 4 & 5. Yes, the people who made the silly episode was the same studio who made dragon ball z (rip toriyama),.Daisy is a real spartan in lore. Finally, the little spacebikes (I forgot what theyre called) are in lore, theyre only used by spartans and not for many operations; they were replaced by thrusters later on.
It’s so cool cuz the creators of Halo, Bungie, had said that the part where everyone is fighting the Flood together is how they intended to end Halo someday. With old enemies joined together, a galaxy United under a single cause.
In Odd One Out I always heard them say both ‘Unicorn system’ and ‘Unicron system’
Not shown here but as another comment mentioned most of the spartan II candidates didn't make it thru augmentation or got rehabilitated later on. Mastsr chief made it thru the first time around. Spartan jerome you see in halo wars 2 was actually one of the candidates that failed augmentations and had to go thru rehabilitation but made it thru.
You're right about the clones, they were all defective. But some of the Spartan-IIs weren't from poor backgrounds, and as I understand the lore behind it, Daisy's family was wealthy and had access to the resources to treat the flaws in her clone.
"Does that mean this one's going to be serious?" *cuts to Be Human* absolutely SENT me 12:48
The ship at 38:54 was a ONI Sahara Class Prowler
If you have read the Kilo Five Trilogy its the same ship Class as in the books
Sahara Class Prowlers pop in quite a lot during the Books but the only in game class prowler we see is the Winter class in H5
@23:24 Anyone else familiar with the backstory of Avery Johnson being a volunteer for the Alpha Spartan program? lol
I’m happy you’ve gone down such a rabbit hole of Halo trailers, cinematics, movies, and more.
The Duel, Prototype, Homecoming, and The Babysitter are my top picks for this anthology. Would love for them to do a second season since this was released before Halo 4 and onward.
Generally agree with your rankings of the Episodes. Although personally Homecoming is my favourite. It's the only one of these that's a TRULY Spartan story and it was the first non-book Halo media i can think of that really digs into how messed up those children were by what was done to them.
I always loved Daisy as a character for her showing the clone mercy (and the juxtaposition that Ralph DID kill his clone, but Daisy makes sure not to shame him for it because she understands what must've been going through his head). Plus the fact that this memento from her life before her abduction was returned to her, and she carried it with her to the end to remind her of who she really is behind that suit of armour. AND that Master Chief clearly knows what that bear charm meant to her in the way he lays her body to rest. Gives us another insight into the bond all Spartan-IIs share from being raised together. So much subtle storytelling. My favourite piece of Halo media outside the games, and I wear Daisy's bear charm on my armour in Halo Infinite because of how much that episode impacted me.
The prototype suit was an attempt to make a set of armour that was safe to use for unaugmented soldiers and to be cheaper than the Spartans Mjolnir. Which is funny because they completely blew that aspect. Although the plans helped with the creation of the Mantis mec
This sort of thing was actually quite popular in the day: Beginning with The Animatrix, certain Western multimedia franchises would spin-off into Anime Anthology Series, each episode animated by a different studio.
Fun fact the episode Odd man out actually was made by the same creators of Dragonball.
Also some of the ODST's on "The babysitter" Are canon in halo 2 and halo 3 odst.
O'brian was one of the KIA ODST's in halo 2 deleted cutscene beach landing.
Cal-141 is also canon but only to some of the halo books, i havent personally read them but might one day.
As for "The package the spartans in the beginning are canon, Spartan Blue Team, quite literally as their armor actually is blue.
Been waiting for this one
Didn't expect a reaction to this series! Some of the minis feel a bit weird but I do have 2 favourites of this series one being the ODST and Spartan working together.
I liked that one a lot!
You should check out the heart of the midlothian and mona Lisa, both are halo shorts animated by the one. The whole collection is called halo evolutions
24:26 it is a coöporation between the guys that designed the spartans mjolnir and the guys that designed the unsc's mechs, such as the Mantis or the cyclops
There is also a Matrix version of this idea.
Called the 'Animatrix' is contains 7 or 8 animated short stories.
Each one done by a different studio and director.
Dude I love your reactions and your professional skills in filmmaking it goes together so well ❤ keep up the good content
Thank you so much and I'm glad you're enjoying them. Kai
just imagine a halo game where you're playing as a marine then right at the end of the game a spartan maybe even master chief appears to help you.
Loved this kai! The mk1 prototype suit if i remember correctly was developed first and resembles more of gundam with mecha suits. But they never made it past the first field test, halsey came along with the idea to modify people. Been a while since i dusted uup on halo lore so could be some inaccuracies but for the most part i think i got it. Hope you enjoyed this as much as i did as a kid
i would LOVE to play as an ODST alongside a spartan. I think a halo wars style game but people get to play as the marines and stuff would be kickass too
I love seeing the origin of everything
It gives everything and everyone a deeper meaning in the games
I love seeing you watch or play halo!
So for origins 1 & 2. This was made around the same time 3, 3odst and reach, and it was the first and only look we had at forerunners, which, in my opinion, is far better than what we were given in Halo 4+
And as well this was published right before Halo reach so nobody had seen an official Halsey yet, and she was just based off what we had already seen, which was just Cortana
My favorite has always been "The Duel", but the entire anthology (even the...less canon ones) I've always liked a lot. I never understood why they didn't do more, but perhaps its best in the long run....
Omg yess!!! i have been waiting for this.
I have been looking forward to this
The odd one out was done by the same studio as dragon ball!! And yur that is the spartan mark I armor, they started out as mechs till like mark IV
Oo I'm excited to watch this, I'm a big fan of anime as a medium, hell over the last year I was torn between going to study hand drawn animation or musical composition. I ended up choosing music but it wasn't easy, I have a ton of love for the animated medium
man needs to watch halo: Headhunters, he'll like the story and style and get a chuckle out of the hunters
Great video as always, it would be interesting to see your reaction to Halo Evolutions: The Mona Lisa
And yes my Master Mind specialist subject would be Halo lore 😅
Great Video Kai! I dont know if anyone has suggested this video yet or if you have reacted to it already. But i would recommend breaking down a reaction of the Halo fan film called: Dawn Under Heaven. i think it would make for a great future video.
2:40 if I remember correctly, no, we haven't seen them before this point.
Yes it is a Spartan MJOLNIR Prototype, and that DragonBall inspired ep was produced by DragonBall's producers Toei Animation :)
Halo Evolutions would also be nice to get a reaction to at some point. They are more of an animated comic style, but they are great.
The female elite in this is really weird, because she looks so humanlike, but that's just the artist taking liberties. In canon female elites are just slightly smaller than males and for some reason have been descriped smelling like feathers. Who's been smelling them? I don't want to know.
A little fun fact, the odd 1 out was in fact made by the dragón ball z animators :)
Halo's universe is actually quite interesting, I have spent a many nights in those databanks, I mean wikipages. Same with WH40k.
My guess is the prototype suit is like the mantis mechs in the game
I think babysitter is probably my favorite one.
I'll say that the Ghost and the Babysitter episodes/chapters are by far the best in my opinion.
1:05 Anjme Matrix and Anime Star Wars Next! Great stuff
The prototype was my favorite
Here's a fun fact, Halsey is canonically incredibly hot so Cortana chose the form of a naked Halsey to make it easier to
1. Get people's attention, ship captains in particular since they tend to men.
2. Mess with people/make them uncomfortable so she can dominate the room.
I think it's funny how catty Cortana is. Oh also bonus fact, the first time Captain Keyes saw Halsey was when they were on a secret mission together and thanks to how Cryo-Sleep works in Halo they first saw one another nude.
No wonder they got hitched and had Miranda not long after.
Daisy is canon! She's an incredibly common waifu among Halo fans along side Maria. You can even get Daisy's charm in Halo Infinite.
This is just a theory but Mama from the 1337 sketch might be a former Spartan II who got wrecked on this world and the kids might be Spartan 2.1/5's I.E. her biological children she had with a surviving or someone else (though I don't know if Spartan II augmentation can be passed down like Orion augments were.) though I'd think 1337 would have recognized her if that was the case.
The Prototype is both based on and animated by Mobile Suit Gundam's animation team which is just Halo going full circle to its roots. It's my favorite short in Legends.
That is the same Dutch from ODST in The Baby Sitter, though my man denied his Spartan Waifu O'Brien is not the same one who dies in the Pelican crash from the Halo 2 Cinematic: A Day at The Beach.
Something to keep in mind The Spartans are only supossed be like 17 in The Package.
Halsey can dominate me any time.
The CGI one reminds me most of the Appleseed movies.
I believe these are all meant to be cannon besides the story with spartan 1337. Although with its age some things in these episodes might be retconned by now.
While i like your reactions, i gotta say i am not a fan of the new format where you blur the video and make yourself center to speak while stopping the audio. It disconnects your reaction to the video from the actual video and kinda makes it hard to watch. For me at least
It's only on the movies, otherwise I'm always in the corner. The editors do this so it can clear copyright control.
To clarify further you can only play so much of a long form copyrighted content in a single stretch w/o having issues
my old film teacher told us to keep it under 10 seconds usually.
Under 7 is recommended now, even then it will sometimes bite you.
I see. Thanks for the replies!
29:15 had me dead laughing
28:53 yeah he is THE odst Dutch
Nice catch
You should watch Spartan Ops since you are going down the Halo rabit hole. It's underrated IMO and is way more interesting than Halo 4's actual campaign.
33:49 OF92 Booster Frame, yes they are real
Hey man, love the videos - not gonna lie, watching people positively react to Halo content makes me shed a tear :')
Also, check out the Darksiders Cinematic trailers - theyre great! esp the second game.
You missed both Origins in your breakdown at the end. Great video though!
"its amazing how good the story is..."
Halo the series: ......
Best looking art in video format media has to be 80s/90s anime, the Akiras and Princess Mononokes, Vampire Hunter Ds of the world.
Yes mate!!
I really like the Ghost one. Gundam Spartan is a good time.
They need to scrap the tv show and give us season 2 of halo legends
Well, never thought I'd see Anime Halo ^^ Many interesting art styles. And interesting story. Not to make a dig at the current Halo show, but ... well.
WHERE did you get that xbox shirt?
Need to react to Halo the Mona Lisa.
Where are you able to watch this?
I watched it on Amazon Prime or a sub service of that.
