Thank you for this excellent video. We are going on the western Med cruise in mid-July, My first ever cruise. Very excited having seen this. I have read some negative comments but I tend to find in life that people are more likely to post negative comments than those who have had a really good time. I will be boarding with a big smile on my face 😊😊😊
Thats just a great attitude to have. We loved the cruise and have booked to go away again with Marella in November. We found the crew on the whole very friendly, we saw no bad behaviour from adults, just a few naughty child moments. In fact we found people on our cruise much friendlier and wanting to chat than our only other one with Celebrity. The ship was perfect for us, do not like the new overlarge ships and there are some very beautiful areas to admire. Went to the Caribbean on this ship, loved every second of it
We felt exactly the same, yes there will always be some bones to pick with a Marella cruise but at the end of the cruise you can't help loving it. We loved it so much we are going again this year but doing the other side of the Caribbean, can't wait, going with friends this time and know we are going to have such a fun time. 🚢🚢🚢🍹🍹🍹😎😎😎

Hi Suzanne, thanks for watching and for your kind words. We loved the ship, although older than most current cruise ships, parts of the ship are still beautiful.and still look immaculate. I would imagine by next year the cabins will have been refurbished making it even more perfect. We liked the smaller more intimate ship and definitely recommend trying a Marella cruise. 🚢🍹🌞😀
Enjoy, Discovery and Discovery2 are definately the best Marella ships.
Loved Discovery 2 but i am looking forward to trying Voyager later this year.

I was on it when this ship was Legend with RCI it had just been launched 20 odd years ago. It will be an experience to step back on with Marella. Last year I was on RCI Anthem their latest ship. With my Daughter and grandchildren it was amazing and has every wow factor. However for my husband and myself I prefer the smaller ships. Tried the Voyager maiden trip 3rd June and was really impressed. My last cruise with the company was 15 years ago under Thomson name. Although the ships are older ex RCI cruise ships recondition and changed into the Tui brand is a big improvement in their shipping stock. What this company has is a lively fun aspect. No other cruise line has it. I’ve tried P & O RCI, Princess and when younger I did enjoy the many cruises, but now small and catered for the British Market suits fine.
20yrs ago, wow the ship is still looking so good for its age. I like smaller ships as well and i think Marella will stick to this principle. Good and bad with Marella but we found that overall the ship makes you so happy and people and staff are so friendly and willing to chat. People just wanting to have fun and a good experience and i certainly think its tags of 'Booze cruise' and Benidorm at sea' are so wrong. Encouraged to hear about your positive feedback about Voyager. We are sailiing on this ship in November and really excited to see the difference to Discovery 2. this video depicts the ship exactly as it is, I was on this year, so I know. Nice isn't it. cant wait to return in September. Cant think for a moment why you wouldn't enjoy it. So much better than a land based, single location, holiday.

We have just come back from sailing on the Voyager, which was lovely and we had another great time with Marella but in our opinion the Discovery ships are nicer in so many areas. Great video, looks like you both had a lovely time. First cruise for us on this ship in October, very excited! Do the bathrooms have a hanging line? Was unsure about a travel iron or just paying for a few items to be pressed.
Hi thanks for watching and for your lovely comments. We loved this ship, yes there are faults but at the end of the day we still loved it, so much so that we have booked again. So many positive comments was the reason we first took the chance of sailing with Marella and certainly don't regret it. Our bathroom did have a small line in the shower which could be used to hang clothes. Have a lovely time, you must be getting excited. If you can come back and let us know how you got on. Hi Tracey, thanks for watching. Marella have a couple of 'dress to impress' nights and on those nights in particular a lot of people did dress up lovely with evening gowns and men in suits but a lot didn't. We just wore smart trousers and a nice shirt each evening which was also fine. Think they discourage shorts in speciality and main restaurant but we saw some people in smart shorts. It's a very relaxed cruise to when we have sailed with other companies. You will have a fab time. 🚢🚢🚢🚢🌞🌞🌞🌞😎😎😎😎
We're looking at a marella discovery 2 cruise at the moment so good to see the ship! Didn't see in the video but are there any bars outside to enjoy a drink at night?
Hi Stephanie, We tended to do dinner, show and usually ended up in one of the lower floor bars after that. I have checked the cruise news and it does show that the pool bar on deck 9 is open from 10am to 12mn and the deck bar on deck 10 from 10am to 6pm. The glass house on Deck 9 is also open from 10am to 12mn. Lookout for the deck parties, sail away is great fun. Lots more video's to come of our cruise.
@@midatravel i think there's a disco/nightclub if you want to drink late, though it may only be on the explorers.
@@davec8730 Your quite right Dave, there is a nightclub called Bar 11. We didn't go, its only small and is between Surf and turf and the Kora La restaurants. The bar is lovely there. so i'm sure if you are up for some late night dancing its the place to be!
if there is no map on the back of the cabin door, then put a mark on the door to point to the front of the ship, ie L or R.
make a map of all the points of interest on the ship for you, bars. eating places etc.
Finding your way around a ship can be really confusing, especially in the early days so a big thank you for some great tips on dealing with it. 🚢🚢🚢🍹🍹🍹🌞🌞🌞😎😎😎

Hi Tony, thanks for watching. We loved our outside cabin even if it is dated and in desperate need of refurb. It was spacious and there is lots of storage. We have a video in our playlist of Marella Caribbean cruise which is just off the outside cabin. We had previously had a balcony on our only other cruise but I didn't miss it at all on this one. I loved the large window and the fact that we seemed so close to the sea. Dave would be happy with an inside but I do like having some natural light. Most of the outside have the large square window, we were worried we would have one with a small round window. I would chose one midship as they all seem to be the larger square window. Ours was on deck 3. (3086). You will have a great time. April will soon be here. 🛳🛳🌞🌞🍹🍹

Discovery and Discovery 2 I believe are very similar. Even though they are older ships, they are still very nicely maintained and I like the fact they are smaller than the modern cruise ships. Hi this video has really reassured me as booked my first cruise for this August to go on the discovery 2. Do you know if you have to get to the shows quite early on a evening to get a seat? Also can you feel the boat moving?
Hi Helena, firstly thanks for watching, happy you have been reassured. Our first 24hrs on board were not good, problem with internet and some bad food, so happy to say that once we found our way around then we soon found the best places to eat and drink. Internet will only be issue outside of Europe. The staff are amazing and apart from a few unruly children we saw no sign of any bad behaviour or people too drunk. We found fellow passengers amazingly friendly and of course the staff are amazing and work so hard. So even though we had a few problems by the end we had been won over and had an amazing time. Marella only have to do a little more to make the experience even better. We always like to eat early and we always got to the early show at 8.30pm. The second show is at 10.30pm. The theatre is lovely, seating is spacious and comfortable. The theatre in our experience was never more than 50% full and we were able to get the same seats we loved every evening. Lots of video's on our playlists of the theatre and shows. Most of the time you will not feel the boat moving. We had one bad day and people were struggling to walk in a straight line, so it can happen but shouldn't be a big issue. If you are sea sick then i would take your own medicine, we knew someone who had to get some of the medical centre on the boat, it was astronomically expensive! Great to look around the ship with you. We’re booked on Discovery 2 Med cruise in July for first time. Looking forward to it but recently read a review regarding cockroaches rife on Deck 9 (during their Caribbean Cruise). We’re petrified now. Any opinion as to likelihood of roach invasions would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Susan,. thanks for watching. I hope I can put your mind at ease. We cannot recall seeing a single bug of any sort whilst on the ship and on the whole considering there are up to 1800 passengers onboard I found the ship to be very clean and tidy. You will see crew members constantly working hard keeping it as clean as can be. The last thing Marella would want would be this sort of publicity so I imagine it would be dealt with very swiftly even if it was the case. The other reason for the week in April is to see if its suitable for us to book a Asia trip Jan 2024. We have been on the Explorer last year which was fine how does this ship compare
I have looked at the Asia trip and would love to do it, just don't know when. I have not been on the Explorer but I have seen ship tours of the Explorer ships. I personally think the Discovery ships are the nicer ones but perhaps I am biased. I think the atrium is more spectacular and the layout seems more spacious. The theatre, The glass house, Squid and Anchor, 47 and gallery 47 are still looking beautiful for the age of the ship. I know discovery was refurbished last November and hopefully Discovery 2 will be refurbished later this year which will elevate it even more. 😀😀😀
I've booked the fascinating far east 1 cruise for Jan 24, our first cruise
having been on all 4 pre covid, i prefer both disco's, they waiter serve drinks in the theatre (or did) on the explorer's you have to take your drinks in. ALL 4 are GREAT.

Hi. I don't want to give you false information so all i can say is that at sometime both the flight boarding passes and the cruise ship pass do become available to download from the cruise planner, cannot remember if it was from this section though that we had the ship boarding pass from. If you have a Tui shop near you then nip in and i am sure they will be able to help. Sorry i can't give a better answer.

Is there many smoking zones?
Hi Marie, I'm not a smoker so probably can't answer in full but there were definitely smoking areas on Deck 4, Deck 9 the pool Deck and Deck 10. Hope this helps. Take care
