Guard instructors with a similar personality as yours are the bomb and what gives students the motivation and want to become better, thus forming a great color guard.
MY niece joined colorgard last week and I could not be prouder. I was a twirler in hs and occ. did flags best time ever!! Oh, and nother can cheer me up quicker then getting out my baton and showing off still after 18 years.
I just want to say that I found your blog/youtube page the other day. It is so awesome I have been going back and watching all your videos. I love all your videos. They are awesome. Also I went out and bought Sisters Red because I found your blog/site and definitely plan on reading it soon. I already read the prologue. I also just started my own book blog like a month ago and it inspires me to keep on writing/staying active on my blog. =]
Goodness, Jackson, is there no end to the awesome things you can do??? I wish I had learned about this earlier in my life... now I just wanna fly you in to teach me this stuff in person.
I love watching the colorguard!!! I tried out freshman year, but it was two days of try-outs and the first day I loved it, I was pumped, couldn't wait. Second day, I had to miss because I got sick. Unfortunately, I never tried out again, but I always wanted to. :) Also, you're very talented at colorguard, I must say!
You know, I had never heard of colorguard/winterguard before watching your videos. Which surprises me because my high school has very strong arts/music/sports programs, and it seems like the sort of thing we'd do. It looks like fun!
@JacksonAPearce That's unfortunate, however not surprising. My high school had similar problems and it's really a shame because it's the students who suffer in the end. Teens need sports, activities, clubs, etc. as an outlet as well as a way for them to test out who they are, who they want to be, or just to have fun that won't get them in a world of trouble. I'm not sure if they've brought any of what they took out back since my graduation, I hope so… actually I’m going to go find that out.
first of all i love that you made this video. im going in for my fourth and last season of colorguard this year and im captain. i like the video already, but then when you stood up it made it that much better, because of your shirt! :D
@TheFerret78 I was offered other positions, but I decided to just go ahead and retire. I don't want to start new somewhere else, and I'm traveling a lot this season...I might still do some winterguard stuff though. We'll see!
Jackson I so hope you find another Color Guard position somewhere. It's so clear to see it's right up there with writing for you and I hate seeing such talent and passion go to waste. Keeping my fingers crossed for you that something awesome comes along for you. :-)
I grew up around marching bands and DCI. My mom and aunt did colorguard with Velvet Knights back in the day and another aunt was with Blue Devils. I was the oddball of the women...no colorguard, but I did march in band. I remember being a little girl playing with my aunt's flags from her Blue Devils days. Loved them.
I've added a link to a winterguard show I directed a few seconds into this video-- check it out! Colorguard and winterguard are kind of like cousins. For colorguard, we perform outdoors with the marching band. For winterguard, we perform indoors and to a soundtrack. It's artsy/dancy/acting combined!
@GidgetRae91 The administration at the school I coached at was very, very unsupportive of the marching band/winterguard. It got to the point where I couldn't bear to watch them stomp the program into the ground anymore. I'm hoping things will shift in the future though; the students there are amazing. I miss them so much!
Now that I think about it, my school didn't have a colorguard. I think once you'd been in band for so long you have the option to be in colorguard, but it was strictly a bad thing and it wasn't very large. I was a choir student and cheerleader for most of my youth, so colorguard was never in the cards for me. Great video. Loved watching your tricks :)
Colorguard is a beautiful sport. I kept trying out in high school but never made it. Also, I love the way you teach, naming that one pose "the Unicorn," and I remember when you were showing us how to spin a baton and you said, "pretend there is chocolate ice cream infront of you and vanilla ice cream behind you and you want to get a scoop of each."
@ltrebach I know that this comment is a very late but it's actually a great question. Colorguard is what most people know, it's more for parades and fall guard. Winter guard however is more demanding and that's when guard go on competitions by there's elves to other schools and compete in their division. Some guards even go to wgi ( winter guard international) and compete with school all over the world. It's really so much fun.
I'm in awe of your bravery right now.I would be terrified of knocking myself out when tossing the flag. Seriously, I either have the worst luck or I'm horribly uncoordinate. lol
@bre9630 If your school has a marching band then the guard will compete with the band what is known as fall guard. It's pretty much like a summer boot camp thing. You learn ALOT of stuff before hand. And if you're new I'm sure the instructors will be ver willing to teach you the basics and any other girls/boys on the team. :)
I love COLORGUARD! I am the instructor. However, I never did it in high school. I have learned it over the years myself, but I still lack some information on different techniques and always love learning new tosses and so forth. Do you have anymore videos out there on colorguard?
I do not, however, miss the number of times I got conked in the head while trying to do a horizontal, spin around, and catch it one-handed behind my back. So much pain went into perfecting THAT move.
Haha, best part about being in colorguard, no matter if the band yells at you and complains about how you get in the way you can always 'accidentally" hit them
Yeah, I played the flute in marching band, but I would often get bored and start spinning my flute around trying to imitate the color guard. Needless to say, that flute didn't last the season.
@JacksonAPearce Is your shirt the 'fitted womens' version? The collar looks different on yours. Did you cut it to make it even cooler? :o) I want to order one so badly but I'm afraid the women's would be too small as the description says the sizes run a little smaller than one might expect...
GAH i want to join colourguard SOSOSOSO bad. BUT THERES ONLY ONE ELECTIVE AVAILABLE FOR ME because p.e. and foreign language count as one each! and my other's going to be orchestra.GRRZZZ
Hey there! I'm starting colorguard, for the very first time. I'm going to Marching Band camp over the summer, and everything. I have my drop spins horizontal toss' andmy doubles (and some other stuff). Are there any tips that you'd like to share, with me? I really want to make colorguard captain! Thanks!
Did you spin in college? I was only on hs guard for one season but I want to keep going (I'm 19 now) I just don't know where to go. I want to eventually coach and all that I just want more experience first. Any tips?
Guard instructors with a similar personality as yours are the bomb and what gives students the motivation and want to become better, thus forming a great color guard.
This is the first Jackson Pearce video I've ever watched. Jackson just keeps on getting more and more awesome. :D
@callitambrosia You should GET IT! Seriously. It's really well printed and super comfortable.

I love your shirt... And colorguard... I love you...

@LostInLit I always cut the neck out of my Tshirts, so yes! If it helps, I'm a smaller size 10 and ordered a Large, and it fits perfectly.
I do color guard at my high school. It's awesome! I love it! We haven't learned how to do 45s yet...

I loved being in COLORGUARD too (both in high school and college)!!!!

I was in guard for two years and dropped out after a few concussions and not liking the leadership. I have had some guard withdraws.
I'm only 13 but I grew up with Colorguard (moms an instructor) and I LOVE it so very much ^_^
@Schoellnacher I've been doing this a really, really long time. I don't have outtakes with fundamentals anymore.
@callitambrosia I went to Brookwood, and was on their first ever rifle line and first ever winterguard. :)

that light compliments you very well. you should do outside videos all the time!
I'm in awe of your bravery right now.I would be terrified of knocking myself out when tossing the flag. Seriously, I either have the worst luck or I'm horribly uncoordinate. lol
You seem as in love with colorguard as I am with pottery.
It is summer and I take classes at school; I am also in withdraw.
I'm in color guard at my school, Dorothy Mcelhinney middle school, we got second place in our competition yesterday
Gosh darn it I miss this.
I think it would be really cool if you added more colorguard videos, we go a lot of what we see from videos and we are running out of videos to watch

I miss marching band now. Thanks. :-P
That is one of the few things I miss from high school! Man I need to buy my own flag!
I love COLORGUARD! I am the instructor. However, I never did it in high school. I have learned it over the years myself, but I still lack some information on different techniques and always love learning new tosses and so forth. Do you have anymore videos out there on colorguard?
I love your shirt!
Your so lucky! We Aussies don't even know what it is!
My school doesn't have a colorguard, but my mom was on her school's team so I still know some tricks :)
I do not, however, miss the number of times I got conked in the head while trying to do a horizontal, spin around, and catch it one-handed behind my back. So much pain went into perfecting THAT move.
You remind me of my colorguard coach xD both very good teachers!
I miss it too =( I'm sorry about what's happening.
I wish we had colorguard at my high school. If we did, I would totally join. Oh well, my broom will just have to do.
I wish there was a colorguard club at my school.
I had to watch the Don't Unplug Me video. I love All Caps!
Can you make a video with just a demonstration? with amazing music and everything? basically, showing off?? i want to see :)
So, I pretty much love the Unicorn. :)
i re-watched 3:27 at least 50 times... SO COOL!
For some reason this video wouldn't load all the way for me. I believe it is my inner drum line member's/percussionist's will against color guard.
I love your shirt 3
I wish my school had fun stuff like this. There's nothing interesting where I live at :( Boo.
I don't think we had that at my school. Maybe part of the band or something.
Where did you get your flag at?
That shirt...xD
@JacksonAPearce Is your shirt the 'fitted womens' version? The collar looks different on yours. Did you cut it to make it even cooler? :o)
I want to order one so badly but I'm afraid the women's would be too small as the description says the sizes run a little smaller than one might expect...
I was in Colorguard in my High School:)
Our school doesn't have color guard.
:(
I still don't quite get what colourguard is? Do you just do funky tricks with flags?
Sorry about this very random comment, but I love your shirt! ;D
GAH i want to join colourguard SOSOSOSO bad. BUT THERES ONLY ONE ELECTIVE AVAILABLE FOR ME because p.e. and foreign language count as one each! and my other's going to be orchestra.GRRZZZ

no outtakes? :(
We don't mind the showing off.
But, remember. If you're good at something, never do it for free. #moviequotes
I have never even heard of a Colorgaurd. Is it an American thing?
Where did you get your shirt?
still wearing that shirt, huh? ;)
Saw her shirt and almost died
First off...please do MORE outside. Secondly, will you marry me?
Why did you retire from colorguard?
I think this flag should have been rainbow. I am disappointed in you Jackson.
I would end up hitting myself in the face with the flag. Also, I like your sunglasses.
if zombies took ovr the world, id bet that that would be ur weapon.
xD
