    These are all “Dream Boats” in my opinion. Also trailering and launching a 20+ foot boat maybe not the easiest for a beginner. But it’s really fun to look at the boats and I did enjoy the video.

    We bought a Sea Pro 21 foot CC. It's a 1998. It has a 2 stroke Yamaha 150 with perfect compression on all 6 cylinders. We completely repaired and upgraded the boat, including new bottom paint, the double axle trailer including brand new rims, tires, and hubs, the electronics, the wiring, speakers, batteries, navigation, lights, everything. Total in the boat and trailer, including upgrades, repairs, rods, reels, tackle, tools, ... 18k. After we washed and buffed it, it looks like a brand new boat.

      $100k is pretty budget unless you want a tiny bay boat or something. I'm looking at a Robalo r230 for my first (right around $100-105k). I've been into ski racing for a long time just never bought a boat. Always went on friends'. $100-120k is reasonable for a beginner/first boat.

    I love this video. I know most commenters agree that these new boats are way too expensive to be literally starter boats for most people, BUT, I think it’s worth looking at features and trends, and then comparing the “new design thinking” to what may be available in an older, less expensive boat. After all, what people seem to “wish they had” on their current boats starts to end up on newer boats as a standard option
such as your alternating cup holder/rod holder upgrade!

    I just put a deposit down on a Sea Hunt Ultra 255 SE for our first family boat. I figure it’s a good inshore and sand bar boat when the family is on and will be good for cruising the ICW with the seating and toilet and side entry door. Though when I want to take it offshore fishing it can make it. It also has a single engine for less maintenance and only drafts 14” so can get pretty shallow too. This one checked all the boxes for us. Though I haven’t actually been out on it since it won’t be delivered for 3-6 months so not sure if all of that will play out in real life.

I'm about 5'8" but unlike most guys, my height is focused around my chest/stomach area instead of my legs so this would help me immensely. The only thing that keeps me from buying a boat other than inflation is that I'll be sharing the water with credit card captains. Nothing worse than plopping down over $50-60K for a center console and some idiot is showing off and T-bones my brand new boat. I guess it'll be a long time before I ever get one.

    • @callofthewildoutdoors
      @callofthewildoutdoors Pƙed 2 lety +1

      first thing do a compression test on engine, that will tell you what kind of condition the engine is in, inspect each spark plug as you remove it for compression test any grey walk away.anyone who will NOT let you perform a compression test or have it taken to a reputable shop for an inspection is trying to sell you a pita and is hiding something, dont expect them to pay for the check up though! But a check over will save you a lot of headaches, time on water and money, after buying a used boat replace the water pump impeller,and spark plugs, keep in mind that impeller could have been brand new 2 hours of run time before you bought it, but was boat stored for any length of time after replacement and use, the chemicals in water are what breakdown the materials the impeller is made of, they also develope a "set" after a time which means they no longer have straight blades and will look curved when you remove it, also look at the propeller, does it have nicks, gouges, cracked or broken blades? that indicates a bottom strike, rocks etc, and possible internal gear damage translated A BIG MONEY REPAIR hope that helps some John

    I think the best boat for fishing/family friendly is a 27ft dual console. You can go off shore with it or to the sandbars, the helm area you can cover it all up and you won’t be affected by the elements like rain or the heat. There’s a head for anyone to use. And a bunch of seating. This is better than the center console in my opinion becuase you get more shade and seats with the dc than the cc. Also some dual console boats come with AC and heater.

    OMG, Entry level boats are 17-20 footers. If your first boat is 20+ you are going to join all the other newby clowns at the boat ramp making a show.

    Family friendly fishing boat appears to be a dual console. Family assuming a range of ages I feel we need max cover and blocking from the wind; dual console.
    Please look at Dual Consoles at Scout, Grady and World Cat.
    At the end of the day with sunburned and wet kids, a tired wife and a guy who didn’t catch anything at the end of the day you’ll want a DC at the end of the day.
    Cheers

      Grady's quality is so obvious even to a novice like me. After I stepped on my first GW I knew I wanted it. Grady White Freedom 215 is my dream starter boat. I need to buy used because I don't have the budget for new but I don't see many available. Should I be looking around North Carolina area?

      There's always something broken on a boat or something that needs to be fixed... but if it came with a bunch of problems I'd definitely try talking to the company and see if they can help with the repairs.

      @jacobchandler3443 Pƙed 2 lety +1

      @@GaleForceTwins oh for sure. I’ve owned many boats but this is my first to buy brand new. The dealer said bring it back and we will get to work on it. The sad part is they did a “shake down” and run the boat and still send it out the door with all these problems. Took me 1hr in the boat to find all of it. Disappointed in the manufacturer and dealer letting it out the door. I have to haul it 4.5 hrs back and I bought from my nearest dealer. Just disheartening. But I will give them the opportunity to make it right.

    A good starter boat is none of the ones shown (those are all new expensive and going to depreciate significantly after the first time you use it). Quite a few boats down the road I recommend someone starts with some thing mechanically sound, affordable (maybe a older hull that’s been re-powered with a lower hours motor) and find out what you like first. Persons going to learn a lot about boating in the first few years (hull design, handling) Then you might do like me and catch a case “bigger boat-itis “ only to realize that there’s a sweet spot for towing and fuel consumption as well as lower maintenance and then downsize again. After you’ve been doing it a while and really know what you want then consider buying a new one from the boat show (of course this is advice for my fellow anglers whom aren’t made of money). I’ve known several friends that bought new only to take a hit

      Not everyone looking for their 1st saltwater boat is looking for “just” a bargain. I’m new to offshore fishing and set a max price range of 175k, this video was informative for somebody like me that has a limited boating background.

    • @joshdives101
      @joshdives101 Pƙed 2 lety +1

      @@tyamey29 then take it from me as being a little further down the road. You’re likely to learn a lot unless you got incredibly lucky the one you purchased now won’t be the one you want later (or you may not realize that the one you got now is the one you want later until you’re a few boats down the road and decide to go back). My point isn’t about a bargain, Their video can be helpful however unless you have an endless budget (hey and if you do good for you) The average person isn’t spending hundreds of thousand over and over. Including these girls I’ve been watching their good videos for a long time and these weren’t their starter boat. My last boat was a 30 foot ocean runner , rigged with a lot of goodies but I realized I had went too big and it wasn’t practical for my family plus the fuel consumption made every trip expensive. I downsized to what fits 95% of my boating and jump on the charter for the other 5.
