Even in the condition they're in, those old workbenches, that gun cabinet, those tool chests, and even that vise, will still likely bring a few bucks on marketplace.
Rebekah needs to adopt a litter of kittens this spring. Raise and feed them in the barn. Get them "fixed" and they will have a job to do. Keep at it guys...love watching...be safe, it's to freaking cold. Feed the animals and get inside.

Your little tractor sure does come in handy. I agree with the other commenter who suggested a 55 gallon drum full of rocks as a counterweight. The rig sure would be more maneuverable than with the brush hog hanging off the back.
He has a counterweight for the bigger TYM. He could build one out of a 55 gallon drum and fill it with cement and let it set up. I think my dad did that with half a 55 gallon drum many years ago and set in some mounting gear so it could hang it on the 3-point.
We used to use a smaller drum with the rods out the sides and top and then filled with concrete at a concrete mixing site. It sits on the ground solid and is Bullet-Proof
@@tedhardulak7698 before the cement filled drum, my parents had a house built with daylight basement. He had his old Ford 8n w/front loader and rear 3-pt blade at that time. They poured some of the extra concrete from the basement into some heavy cardboard boxes, let it set up and dad set that on the blade for weight.
I have a ballast box that is a counter weight than can use on most of my tractors. But it was easier not to switch implements, since I could get the job done with the brush cutter attached. But yes, the Ballast Box or a weighted 55 gallon drum would help it fit in tighter spots.
@@CountryViewAcres Well that's cool! I guess I was thinking that you only use the brush cutter once or twice a year - so I wondered why you were still lugging it around 😉 Your little tractor is so sweet the brush hog looks awkward. But you know your priorities.

The one place I'm almost always guaranteed to find a mouse is in the bell housing of my Farmall tractor. That will make a great livestock barn.

This is actually a comment for the video on the compost pile fire. Sorry it happened, but it does give you the chance to rethink how to set up your compost piles. You have a wealth of items to compost, which may give you Large compost piles. No need to have any structure that the piles are placed in. You don't live in a subdivision and do not need to "dress up" the compost piles. Having the piles in the open allows you to make them the sizes that work best for you at the time, and that may change over time. No structure to build and get in the way, easier access, total flexibility of size and it will all compost as well or even better. We have used open piles and structures over the years and are much happier with the open piles and find they are as effective or more effective than compost in structures (of whatever type). Just our observations. We really enjoy your channel and are grateful that you share the "oops" as well as the successes. Thank you and very well done.

I just wanted to thank you for the sharing the starting fluid trick on the old diesel tractor. My 1960 Massey-Ferguson started right up at 15 degrees.
I must be old school, (80yrs old) I would clean out that tool box and gun cabinet they are in good shape and well worth a little restoration. especially at today's prices. I walk around every day shaking my head at prices of things today. I can remember buying gasoline for .18 cents a gallon!. yep I said eighteen cents!. back in the late 40's and early 50's. new cars were less than $2K. we just bought a new one for over $31K. that's more than I paid for my house!. lord love a duck when it it going to end!? Hey Evan, that old bench might be pretty special $$$. Not sure but it could be what is called a harvest table which seats a lot of people for a meal.
Always tape pant legs to prevent mice. My last house had a rat issue. Always had traps out but placing them correctly was critical to not catch a cat. The cats would mostly keep them on their side of the wall, though one day when one snuck in the door my cat just watched as I ran around chasing it trying to get him back out the door. I think he was just laughing at the antics.

Farmers of old had large families and a number of workers so a large long table to eat around particularly at harvest was necessary, valuable today.

I had a mouse run up my pants leg while in the peanut barn when I was around 8 or 10 years old. Needless to say there wasn’t enough room for us both so let the mouse have the pants.

I agree with the comment some one made about putting up boards around the inside of the barn. If you don’t the cows will push the metal off the walls.

you will need to eventually add some bump boards to the walls or the animals will push the tin and sheeting boards off, a little spray foam should help the ridge row. down in the single digits here in N Oklahoma too. i'm bottle feeding a baby calf having to get out in it is no fun but have fun anyway:)

Put that roof high on project list to put new ridge cap on to keep rain and snow out. Protect rafters from rotting

I think you should add boards on the inside of the barn all the way around so the animals can't push on the outside walls, especially if you plan on getting more steers
They could get some pallets free or cheap and screw them up against the wall as well.
That would be the long term plan to cover the walls. But it won't happen immediately.
I have a single gun cabinet just like yours. Mice got into it as well. I literally cannot figure out how. Love your channel.
I'd like to mention that you will have to do something about all the electrical outlets and wiring so that the livestock doesn't chew or try to eat it.

You have definitely developed as a farmer. Knowing how the animals will destroy stuff is a big help to prevent further work. Hope it all works out well. We are at least a state north of you and its down to 4 right now at 5:30 and supposed to get down to only -2., maybe its because of the lakes. Looks like it will be cold for a while. Hang in there.
Closure strip is what the foam pieces are called that seal up the openings for corrugated metal.
Rebecca did well considering she has a fear of mice. I hate Huntsman spiders and if there was a chance of one in there ten nothing would get me in there. haha

I have the same gun cabinet only different is mine don’t have mice in it lol and mine also has the same holes in the bottom did a good job cleaning the barn out I am sure the animals will do good in there

Good luck in getting your animals out of your extreme weather. (Then the bank barn will need a good cleaning. Always some hard work awaiting you there on the homestead. But once you get all setup you will have a more permanent animal operation. Kudos👍👍👍

We can send you some more snow, here in south central Wisconsin we got 12” plus! We had our first cold night last night and next 2 nights as well then a warm up to single digits over zero degrees…heat wave!
If you can afford it, tung and groove green treated screwed on the inside of the pole barn. Something’s that you can”press up against with the loader bucket grapple ect. Menards sells the foam for the ridge cap, one other idea is to put a loft in that barn to hold heat. One other expensive thing. Just need to double your subscribers to pay for it.
The more I see that 25 HP TYM work, the more I think should have investigated that line of tractors. Of course when I was shopping for tractors, subcompact and compact tractors were hard to come by. Now the lots seem full of them. The TYM dealer nearest me at the time told me he had a couple of tractors coming, but he had no idea when or even if they would arrive. My little NH has done everything I need and is halfway paid off so all is good.
Surely there is something that could be done to block the snow, and I assume rain, from coming into the new barn. Granted barns aren't sealed tight, but to be the most beneficial, the heat generated by the animals themselves should be contained within the barn and they should be dry.

I am very happy with where we buy Cornish cross chick's from, Meyer hatchery in ohio. They seem to get bigger faster than other places we have bought from. That is probably why they sell out.

Evan, get a tall ladder and go up into the roof area and spray the large expansion spray foam insulation under the peak between the ridge and roof metal and that will stop the snow from blowing in.

Hello id come buy from you gun cabinet tool box but a bit to far to drive. Think you will find mice allways get into things even your cab tractors. Cats are a good thing to have around, don't feed them and they with keep the rodents at bay. Enjoyed your video have a great day both of you.

If you haven't already thought of it, I would move all electrical wiring and boxes up to about 6'. Lower if you don't ever plan to put horses in there. You never know when a bored cow or horse is going to try out the electrical stuff.
Rebekah must have a mouse dance similar to my late wife's snake dance. And she always had this little Oooohh! sound that she did while dancing. LOL Sorry, Rebekah.
Yes moving the electrical higher is part of the modifications I plan to do.
What a bummer that your bank barn cattle shed started to fill with water. Just yesterday I commented that maybe you fixed it the last time you investigated it 🤣 I jinxed you buddy. I'm sorry. It will be nice to have the option to move the animals up to the white barn when you want to get after the water below the bank barn.

I'll bet the low table was originally built for butchering chickens or turkeys. Just high enough for big pots of boiling water.
The front plank of the table is HUGE. That is probably old growth limber. Would be worth cleaning up to see what is under the crud.
Replacing the ridge cap on your pole barn is a good spring time project. You can do that in a day. You mentioned that this space wasn't especially dry. Would be nice if you could raise the floor up to the level of the bottom plate. That would give you some buffer for drainage. Probably a good idea to add gutters to this barn too when you have the bank barn done. Originally, it didn't look like much - but it is a really nice ole barn. It's a real good size for where you are with animal population.
Nice barn for the livestock. I see a big hazard with all those receptacles. Next week we will be back in the 40's.

I can handle mice but not rats! My real phobia is the Palmetto Bugs/aka Giant Roaches in Florida. I cant go anywhere near those. Good thing the chickens here love them lol.

Need to make sure you do away with or relocate the electrical outlets in the barn. From a neighbors expensive lesson a cow got a hold of on one and he ended up having to bury her.
