I have been a fan for 30 years and I will always love the Sex Pistols. The late 80's was an easy time to get into them, they were finally just starting getting their due. By the time they reunited in '96, I felt like I was an old fan. And they were GREAT on that tour. It was the only time I got to see them. I didn't even have a beer that night. I knew I was going to want to remember it. And I swear, 22 years later, I remember every fucking minute of that show.
I don't know why people are so pissed with Johnny singing it instead of Sid. I mean apart from the fact that Sid is dead, this version is interesting and enjoyable in its own right. In my opinion I think the Sid Vicious version was better however this version is still as enjoyable.
Johnny Rotten is simply singing this song his own way, the same as Sid sang it his way too... Punk-rock is first of all an attitude of doing it yourself !! And besides this was never an original Sex Pistols track to begin with, it's from the movie The Great Rock'n'roll Swindle OST ! Malcom just wanted to cash in some more money on the band's fame after they broke up in early 78 during the USA tour... And for the record the Sex Pistols was started by Steve Jones and Paul Cook, later joined by Glenn Matlock... and finnaly Johnny who wrote all the lyrics! Sid Vicious learned to play bass to substitute Glenn on stage and became a punk icon embodied! RIP Sid !
I'm pretty sure it went like this: Johnny: Any more songs you wanna hear? The crowd: My way Johnny: What?? The crowd: My Way!! Johnny: Okay, let's see if we can try that..
A VERY rare and historic tribute to Simon John Ritchie/Sid Vicious. "My Way" was Sid's true mark many argue with the iconic video a masterpiece of just wiping out the establishment. Sid could really sing, and God knows if he'd lived what he'd have ended up doing. But, once that smack hit his brain, and the slut got her hooks in, and Malcolm using him it was always going to end as it did. But what really kills me is his Mother was a smackhead, and it was she her gave Sid his fix upon being released.
Obviously not rehearsed, spur of the moment thing. But nonetheless, a heartfelt tribute to Sid. Can't you see that Johnny's actually crying? Sid was after all his best friend.. Lyrics? We make them up as we go, just like Sid did, his way.. And I think Sid himself would have loved this, or be totally embarrassed.. "What? A tribute to me? Fuck off!" But yeah, this is pure. Also, name another single band who could have gone onstage, played a song without rehearsing it and receive a standing ovation? I'm pretty sure it went down like this: Johnny: Any more songs you wanna hear? The crowd: My way Johnny: What?? The crowd: My Way!! Johnny: Okay, let's see what we can do..
If you look at the setlist, something really special must've been in the air, they nearly played every song in their repetoire! www.setlist.fm/setlist/sex-pistols/2002/crystal-palace-national-sports-centre-london-england-5bd6ebc8.html
This was never a pistols song to begin with, it was Sid with an orchestra and some French musicians with Steve Jones on the final track, it was released under the pistols name by McLaren to cash in at the time. So stop your fucking whinging and appreciate John paying tribute to one of his best mates !!
"This was never a pistols song" It was, it was a Sex Pistols single with Sid and Steve on it. Steve and Paul decided to stop working as Sex Pistols shortly after Sid died, not back when Johnny quit.
The original song is "Comme d"habitude" from the french singer Claude François in 1967. Frank Sinatra adapted the song in 1969 and call it "My Way", and then punk rock came...
Sid was not an original member of the pistols... and the pistols were great as they were on there own...I actually went to this gig with the original line , best day of my life and this video does not do John justice
For fuck sake............a piss-take? You think? Sid was his best friend. He clearly did this as a tribute to his pal...............did you not see that?
This is fucking great. No, it's obviously not rehearsed but a spur of the moment thing. So what? If this isn't a true heartfelt tribute to Sid. I don't know what is.. Lyrics? we make them up as we go along. Just like Sid did, his way.. I'm sure Sid would have loved this, or be totally embarrassed.. "What? A tribute to me? Fuck off!" But yeah, this is pure. Also, name another single band who could have gone onstage, played a song without rehearsing it and receive a standing ovation?
It's totally improvised, can't you tell?? Johnny has no clue about the lyrics outside of the first verse, that's why his pointing the microphone towards the audience for the majority of the song.. It's also obviously a heartfelt tribute to Sid!

Sid's version is a recorded version with an orchestral backing track lol. Nobody ever said he wasn't talented as a front man/sinnger, everyone from that era says he would have made a good front man. He just couldn't play bass.
I was there when punk started here in the UK, part of the scene, proper is knowing the words , no one expects a perfect reproduction of the record but this is crap !
I don't get the Sid worship, I really don't. I never thought highly of him, he let drugs and despair destroy his life. But the guy killed a cat just out of meanness. I mean....I have a cat....I love my cat. I can't imagine someone killing it. But Sid killed a defenseless animal just for the hell of it which to me is just disgusting. Then of course there's the drugs and murder accusation. I don't get why he's a hero to so many. I can only assume they don't actually know anything about him.
To all you complaining it's not Sid...... if he hadn't killed himself with smack he could have been there singing it. Sid was the biggest waste ever and I'll never get the way you people worship him. Maybe the idea of being a broke junkie accused of murder is romantic to you but to me it's just sad. The world didn't stop just because he died either.
OH YEAH!!! "SID VICIOUS" SUNG THIS SONG WAY BETTER, SORRY JOHNNY, BUT THIS SONG WAS WRITTEN, MADE FOR SID TO SING, ONLY SID SINGS AND PERFORMS IT THE BEST, HE DIDN'T EVEN HAVE TO TRY SO HARD AND WAS STILL GREAT

Oh come on! Do you honestly think Sid would have given a rat's ass about this? He probably would have given Johnny a thumb's up and said "Good job mate!"
