Of course as soon as I upload this video, Refract sends me a video of them showing the tracking improvements they are working on. Legitimately impressive stuff.
They are fixing their tracking algorithm and made a huge huge huge improvement, will eventually do a video showing their new tracking algorithm vs slimes algorithm.
They are also working on their own official OSC implementation, really excited to see where these will go!
Even mocopi supports slime now - its great to see fbt getting cheaper and more accessible
tobad the hip always drifts and destroys the tracking :(

better explanation for IK vs FK
IK (Inverse Kinematics) takes the end location and goes backwards, automatically adjusting everything between the end point and the root, in the case of arms the end point is your hand, and the root is your shoulder.
FK (Forward Kinematics) is the opposite, it goes from the root (shoulder) and goes through the upper arm, the elbow, the lower arm and the hand all one by one.
Both of them have their pros and cons depending on what you do, FK is rotation based for each and every bone and IK is location based based on the end point and then it translates backwards. Generally speaking, IK is better than FK the vast majority of times, but I can imagine FK being better than IK in the case of bodytracking with these methods
Neither IK nor FK is better, really. IK deals with absolute end positions and unknown intermediate rotations, while FK deals with a bone chain where every bone's length and orientation is known. This means that with FK the error compounds as you go down the skeleton from an absolutely tracked point (like the head) - error like the tracker orientation being a little off, or your bones being miscalibrated or moving in ways the model can't account for or detect, like maybe torso rotation. IK, on the other hand, is (like FK) not even used for points whose position is absolutely known, like your feet in 5-6 point, but anything in between (knees, elbows, waist in 5 point) is guessed based on a model of how the human body moves.
Personally, I think the future is something like Slimes with absolute trackers on the feet, doing inverse kinematics but with knowledge of the intermediate orientations so the IK doesn't end up too far off.
boneless says 'fuck off'
I just went and looked this up, should of just scrolled down, lol. Nice explanation. A lot of these FBT setups can rely mostly on rotational tracking because as long as the absolute positions of the extremities (hands, head, and feet) are known, the layout of everything in between can be inferred to a high degree of accuracy. Adding chest and hips to the observation greatly reduces the wiggle room and then tracking part of the arms and legs eliminates it entirely. Basically, anything that can be moved independently of everything else is a necessary target for positional tracking in order to achieve perfect fidelity.
@@charltonrodda They're both trying to answer the same question starting from different data sets. If you know the positions you can try to deduce the rotations (inverse kinematics), and if you know the rotations you make an educated guess as to the positions (forward kinematics)
I kept on getting ads for these on Instagram and I had literally zero idea of anything about them. I had never heard of their company before, nor had I ever seen this design before. At least now I'll take a look at them instead of going "yup this is probably a scam". Thanks Boneless!
"Just have a smart furry do it" could literally solve all of the worlds problems, but that would require the world to accept furries as normal people, which I sadly doubt will ever happen. (But we can always hope!)
Can i get uhhhhh... A boneless pizza wit ehh, two litre of coke
"sorry, we are currently short staffed in butchers, so we cannot remove the bones from the pizza. and also coke now sells only 1.94 litres so u can't get exactly 2"
2 liter machine Boke
@@The-Red-Man-AnimationsThat's a calibration error. Supposed to be 1.89L, so they can start labelling products in US quarts like a normal company.
Also, why is the british quart so different from the US quart!
@@CptJistuce i made the number up lol
@@The-Red-Man-Animations I was leaning into it, since it wound up being so close to two quarts.
I knew something was off, at least the prophecy was fulfilled. You can always count of the furry community to do something weird here and there.
Schizophrenia at its finest 💀
Lmao didn't expect to see Tahvo win the bounty, that's great
I suggested haptics on the slime vr server and they called me crazy. At least I am not the only crazy one.
2:10 NO FUCKING WAY LMAO

I find it funny that you used IK as a way to explain Forward Kinematics
It's a good comparison, it's just that IK is way harder to implement properly than FK. FK only has one viable solution, but when dealing with inaccurate sensors, you can do a lot of fancy filtering to make it work quickly and responsively, and is why every bit of software still feels different
with IK however, most circumstances have literally infinite possible solutions, and the software is tasked with finding the most natural solution, which requires a lot more processing to do convincingly. Again, every application handles this differently, but the difference becomes visual with IK. With FK, if you do it poorly, it just feels sluggish and unresponsive. With IK, if you do it poorly, your elbow is in your neck and your legs are twisted 90 degrees off-axis

4:54 do people know what that phone belt holder thing is called and where to get it. Cannot find it for the life of me.
I hate you because the discount code was so unexpected to hear that it made me giggle
love the video but you forgot 1 big problem slime takes 2 years to get :D a have ben eating for 1 year and 6 months and still waiting
only 3 hours battery? :(
it's a no from me then.... I mean SlimeVR has 15 hours....
.... hmm, but actually, is it possible to replace the batteries? how weak/strong is the haptics, i want a significant vibration/rumble from them....
oh, and quest 3 even has full-body-tracking now with Virtual Desktop (Beta i think)
without needing to strap things on your body... so that's really nice, swift and comfy
@@Kana_108_ Quest 3 only tracks your elbows and... that's pretty much it. It's not even remotely close to full body.
@@Enverex right, I think it was based on AI, and ig is not flawless
What phone belt mount is that? 👀
Hey, can you make a video on Kinect for Windows FBT emulation?
So if you had to choose between Slimes and Axis, what would you choose at this current point in time?
I ❤ open source !!! :3
I have the same phone, how do I use that as a tracker?
Bit of a steep price if you would only use them as haptic nodes.
I’m a bit on the fence on this ones because I want to get them but I don’t know if I should.
only 3 hours battery I think... so would say no if ur on the fence
boneman vidoe
Haptics just immediately makes me wonder if Rez Infinite can buzz them.
Probably not, but... it's my first goto for VR haptics.
Not going to link to the trackers?
I have 20 to 65 uT in my room .... that doesn't work with magnetrometer (according to the official doc 20 to 40 is probably too unstable)
Can you use the Axis tracker wireless with s Cloud gaming PC
Awesome update
I wish HaritoraX supported SlimeVR
They don't have official support but someone made a software to connect them to slime vr ( that bridge software is still a early work at the moment so a lot of things about it may change in the future )
@@nemesis4081 only works with HaritoraX wireless though and I have HaritoraX 1.1 ;-;
bro please post more your videos are gass
what avi is this can i purchase?

Your discount code doesn't work :(
pishock? what is that, I have never heard of that can you explain what that is and what it is for?
its a shock collar
@@JONAClDE I know I was just trying to disingenuously bring attention to it.
@@G0ldmoon OHHH got it xd
The world is very small. PiShock, interesting. I keep telling it's a great haptic device hehehe. Makes me happy to hear it mentioned totally without expecting. Context: I make the PiShock.
man, someone get that axe thrower some practice
god bless furries developing vr tech and weebs making a demand for it 🤝
May they marry haha
It's been almost 2 years and my bf still don't have em they keep pushing the date back for just shipping them out 😮💨
bro said I gotta move weights more but I’m fairly confident we both have over 1k hours on vrc😭
Gosh this all feels like something a maths major who knows how to make giant matrices then SVD them or a engineering person who's written a finite element solver knows about just chuck all the sensors into one giant matrix and do something to it an out will pop the limbs I just wonder what that SOMETHING is
sooo.. should i get axis for fbt or noooo..?-
I would say no to only 3 hours battery
TEELT!
nice trigger control
I bought HTC vive 3.0 trackers right before these slime ones came out, i kinda regret the purchase, but oh well
Lighthouse tracked solutions are still infinitely better, you made a right choice
Hello there :D
Still so janky and jittery! Better, but doesn't look usable yet.
So exciting times for FBT. Still rocking my 12 diY slimes
lmao the way you say magnetometer threw me for a loop. It's not Magneto Meter, rather, Magnet -ometer. Like how you'd say the "-ometer" in "accelerometer."
