John Goodman said his favorite roll
I’ve always enjoyed this film and it still holds up to this day as one my favorite Coen brothers films. Plus I watch any film with Jeff Bridges cause he’s one of my favorite actors.
One of Coen's masterpieces and by the way ladies, that's John Goodman not John Candy
Sam Elliott legend
The Dude’s Rug not only tied the room together, The Dude’s Rug tied all of us together. 🍸
It did, did it not?
How very bondage
Far out, man.
Fuckin’ A.
Shut the f**k up, Balducci, you're out of your element! But yes, we can still go to 'In and Out' burger😂
When Walter tried to commit Donnie's ashes to the water, the wind blew them into the air. Even in death, Donnie was out of his element.
But also the one time Walter couldn't bring himself to say "Shut the F up Donny..."
This is one of those movies where the first time you watch it it’s pretty funny and the more times you watch it the funnier it gets…
That has 100% been my experience. The first time I watched it, I liked it, but felt it was overrated. The second time I watched it, I loved it!
This movie is like…a classic, man.
Quoting this movie is how guys become best friends.

Fun Facts: The F-bomb is dropped 260 times and you never see the Dude bowl!
Also, I will always love this movie for giving us the best quote to reply to someone with when they disagree with you and it's not worth having a conversation about it. "Yeah, well, that's just, like, your opinion, man."
What a Great character
Yes my favorite line.

@@4thlinemaniac356 What are you talking about, the film is set in the early nineties and was released in 1999
The 1st time I saw The Big Lebowski, I thought it was Okay. The 2nd time I saw it, I thought 'This is genius'... Never had that experience with a Comedy film before.
Same. I saw it in the theater when it came out and thought it was funny, but not hilarious. Later saw it on video and realized the genius! Been a fan ever since, man!
That was my first experience with This is Spinal Tap. I saw it, and enjoyed it, but I love it a little more every time I see it.
Same experience. Now I've watched it at least 70 times.
The rug really did tie the room together.
😂😂
It honestly did 😂
And these guys peed on it.
Donny, please.
One little touch that many folks miss is that the one time you see Donny not bowl a strike foreshadows his demise.
The woman at the restaurant missing her toe is Aimee Mann singer/song writer for the group "Til Tuesday". Steve Buscemi's character was written specifically with very little dialog and was told to shut up a lot in the movie because Steve Buscemi received a lot of criticism of his character in "Fargo" never shuting up.
Aimee Mann! Wow. Did not know that.
Flea the Ted Hot Chili pepper drummer gets his ear bitten off.

Bass player, but yes.
Jeff Bridges and John Goodman were quite the dynamic duo in this movie
yes, they are complete opposites , so it makes it funnier .
"His name is Lebowski?, that's your name Dude."
Walter Sobchek is one of the best characters in cinematic history. Glad you watched this.
At John Goodman’s Hollywood Walk
Of Fame ceremony Jeff Bridges turned up complete with cardigan and delivered a Eulogy as the Dude to his friend.
That was an incredibly funny performance, and at one point they both couldn't stop laughing themselves.
Michelle looks into the mirror, instantly Time magazine’s person of the year. 🤗
I bought this movie on VHS in a discount bin at a truck stop. I was not in the right frame of mind the first time I watched it. I did not enjoy this movie...until they spread the ashes. I started laughing so hard I was crying. It was enough to get me to watch it again and it became one of my regulars I would pop in.
My first time was as a homework assignment in a college film class. I liked it, but wasn't totally wowed by it. This is a movie that you need to watch at least 2 or 3 times to begin to appreciate the genius of it. Now it is definitely one of my favorite comedies. Maybe my favorite.
The walter character is a parody of John Milius. He directed Conan and Red Dawn and wrote Dirty Harry and much of Apocalypse Now.
That explains so much.
Maude: What do you do recreationaly?
The Dude: Oh the usual... I bowl, drive around. The occasional acid flashback.
The best little detail in this film (there are many) is the check that the Dude writes in the beginning of the film is dated the 11th but then a few days later (in the film) we learn from the Dude's landlord that it's "almost the 10th". So that means the Dud was not only writing a 67¢ check for the half and half, but was kiting the check for it.
Brilliant.
One of the great things about this movies is for all it's great dialog, every body is almost always speaking over each other, not listening or speaking at cross purposes. Fantastic! There is almost no actual true communication between any of the characters.
The Big Lebowski is the best Film ever👍
and remember: the best part of waking up is donny in your cup
Just a little bit of trivia, Steve Buscemi used to be a firefighter before acting. He was at ground zero on 9/11
Oh wow!
He had retired snd was a successful actor at the time , he volunteered during that . With his former colleagues..
Wrong he was in Lonesome Dove in the 1980's. Many others in small parts.
@@4thlinemaniac356Steve Buscemi was in Lonesome Dove?
Were you born this dumb or did you have to take classes?
You have my undying gratitude for calling it trivia and not a f__ fact.
The writing in this one - all of the characters are expertly written and this movie is an absolute treasure.
The Dude calls it a marmot, which is what it is called in the script, but the animal actually in the scene is really a ferret.
One of the best comedies of all time
A friend and I walked out...... Just bewildered.
Didn't understand it until I bought it.
A great movie!
This movie is loosely based off of 'The Big Sleep' a crime noir starring Humphrey Bogart. Instead of a character like Bogie, they wanted a protagonist that was the opposite personality wise. The whole mystery was a convoluted mess that ended up going nowhere when we find out Bunny just skipped town for a few days lol. Masterwork of the comedy genre! Also, the dude's clothes were actually Jeff Bridges personal clothes.
The Big Sleep is a huge mess, but the chemistry between Bogart and Bacall is incredible.
A stoner retelling if you will.
Walter Sobchak is one of the best and most loved characters in the Coen Brothers film.
I love all the cussin.
It's who they were.
There are people who cuss that much in real life.
It took nothing away from this classic....I thought.
"Do you have cuss so much?"
And the dude's line of the movie for me was
"What the f**k you talking about?"
But enough about the cussin.
This comedy is right up there with Airplane, and Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
And as always, in a Coen Brothers movie, nothing is ever resolved.
Which I love.
Great reaction guys.
Thanks!
Yeah, I thought the cussing really tied the dialogue together, sort of like a rug.
Can I just say you are very nice to look at? That's not why I watch, but it don't hurt.
"I was just helping her conceive, man".

This is one of the funniest movies I have ever experienced. I am thrilled you both had a good time. As far as I am concerned, this was John Goodman's greatest performance.

The Big Lebowski is definitely a movie that gets better with rewatches. A lot of people are kind of lukewarm about it the first time they see it but end up loving it with multiple viewings. I think part of the issue is that it only has a loose plot and people try to follow what's happening when, honestly, not much actually happens. It's all about the characters interacting with each other. Part of the inspriation for the film was the old Raymond Chandler detective novels that were known for convoluted plots that didn't really amount to much if you looked too close at them because Chandler was really only interested in throwing interesting characters into scenes with each other, much like what The Big Lebowski did.
I hope you'll keep going with the Coen Brothers films. They're all excellent and in a variety of genres. They specialize in sharp dialogue, but the swearing isn't usually at the level of The Big Lebowski so you'll probably enjoy it more. I can recommend True Grit (2010) if you want to see Jeff Bridges team up with the Coen Brothers again in a much more serious film. There's also No Country For Old Men with Tommy Lee Jones, if you haven't seen that one. Steve Buscemi worked with the Coen Brothers in Fargo if you wanted to see him again, but with more lines of dialogue. If you want another quirky comedy with more John Goodman and less swearing, and Nic Cage as well, check out Raising Arizona.
That guy in purple is John Turturro. The funny guy is Steve Buscemi. Buscemi is a volunteer firefighter. His station was at Ground Zero in 2001.
He is kind of funny looking.

Fun Fact: With the exception of The Dude (Jeff Bridges) helping Maude (Julianne Moore) bowl in a fantasy, The Dude is never actually seen bowling once.
The Real Dude Fact: A lot of the Dude's clothes in the movie were Jeff Bridges's own clothes, including his Jellies sandals, which he reportedly still owns and uses to this very day.
Big Paraquat Fact: In an interview with Rolling Stone Magazine, John Goodman stated that The Dude (Jeff Bridges) referring to The Big Lebowski (David Hiddleston) as a "human paraquat" was one of the only improvised lines to make it into the final film. Virtually every other line was scripted.

One of the Greatest Movies ever...Thank You for this Reaction, Ladies ...
Thanks for watching!
Just the right amount of cuss words!
When I first saw this movie back in the mid 00s on DVD, I didn’t get the humor at all. I was used to comedies from the Farrelly Bros. and Kevin Smith. I remember wanting to return the DVD back to Best Buy and get a refund. Didn’t get it at all.
Then every night because my Panasonic DVD player had a sleep mode, for some reason, I would play it. After 10x replaying it, it got better and better. After 50x, it’s become one of my top 10 favorite movies of all-time. It’s one of the most quotable movies ever.
“What’s a pederast?”
“Shut the f*ck up, Donny.”
“Look, just stay away from my f***ing lady friend.”
“Hey, I'm not messing with your special lady.”
“She's not my special lady, she's my f***ing lady friend. I'm just helping her conceive.”
“What the f*** are you talking about? The chinaman is not the issue here, dude. I'm talking about drawing a line in the sand, dude. Across this line, you DO NOT... Also, dude, chinaman is not the preferred nomenclature. Asian-American, please.”
“I had a rough night and I hate the fuckin' Eagles, man!”
The Larry scene. You see what happens when you f*ck a stranger in the ass? The Gutterballs dream sequence musical scene. The scene when Dude sketches and sees a figure with a huge penis. Jesus cleaning his bowling ball. The Dude having a Vons card as proof of ID. Dude getting kicked out of a taxi cab in the next scene. John Goodman’s funniest role ever as Walter buying a coffee can to keep his friend, Donny, inside. Walter always talking about ‘Nam. The Dude being so un-Dude.
Two great songs in called “Ataypura” and “Just Dropped In”. The former is heard when you see a naked girl getting thrown up with a giant towel right when Dude sees Jackie Treehorn. It was sung by Peruvian singer, Yma Sumac back in the 1950s. The other is from the famous Gutterballs scene after Dude’s white Russian gets drugged that knocks him out sung by Kenny Rogers and The First Edition. Those two scenes with those songs playing has this weird stoner dream vibe to them. The Santana song after Dude’s car gets wrecked was perfectly dropped for that scene.
The Big Lebowski is a f*cking classic that can never ever be remade. You can watch it for the 100th time, and it’s still hilarious every time because the quote is so flawless to that specific scene. The delivery is flawless by the actors. Most rewatchable and relistenable movie of all-time. Glad you enjoyed it, Michelle and Natalie. Love you too. Take care! 😘
“You thought that Bunny had been kidnapped and you were f*cking glad, man. You could use it as an excuse to make some money disappear. All you needed was a sap to pin it on. You'd just met me, you... you human paraquat! You thought, oh, here's a loser, you know, a deadbeat, someone the square community won't give a shit about...”
“Well? Aren't you?”
“Well, yeah, but...”
Most hilarious and flawless screenplay of all-time.
You forgot about the Mussorgsky perfectly synchronized with the landlords performance and their dialogue! I also like how the Dude stands up to go investigate the penis drawing. It reminds me of Pierce Brosnan jumping out of the sea after escaping from the hospital at the beginning of Die Another Day with long hair and beard.
Definitely a cult classic, but very funny. That was a ferret and the kids father was in an iron lung, I think used for polio victims. his drink was white russian with half and half.
Sign of a good movie: Decades later you (Meaning I, just now) spot things youve missed.
Like Walter coming off as Jewish, yet saying: "Were supposed to shit ourselves with fear, Jesus Christ!" 😅
For me this is the best movie ever made for repeated viewings, I always catch new twists and connections, and such a deceptively brilliant script.
Great reaction! To me personally I watched this movie when it came out when I was young and didn’t like it that much. Over the years I watched it a few more times and it grew on me. Now I think it’s amazing! It’s one of those movies you have to watch a few times before you really start to appreciate it
Thank you!!
It's not just repitition of lines - The Dude "borrows" language from others ALL THE TIME to try to fit in with 'the square community' to which he does not belong.
The greatest modern film noir.
Even after cellphones became popular, in the beginning, some people still carried a beeper too, because they didn't want to give their phone number out to everyone (phones didn't have caller ID yet). They would give people their beeper number, see who called, then either call them back or not, basically using the beeper for caller ID.
They wrote this as a parody of, and an homage to Raymond Chandler, who wrote those '40s and '50s L.A. private eye crime melodramas (The Big Sleep, The Long Good-bye, Farewell My Lovely, etc.) featuring Phillip Marlowe, who frequently got knocked around by the cops, beatup and drugged by criminals, betrayed and used by his clients.
This channel basically describes my feelings when I saw those movies 20 years ago 😂 I love this channel ❤
☺️❤️
Aww ☺️
13:27 Beepers were still a big thing in the US into the early 2000's. I visited the US from Europe in 2000. Our tiny new Nokia cellphones (think Zoolander) were smaller than the beepers that many people still had.
After that cell phones took off fairly quickly. But not nearly as fast as in Sweden in the summer of 1995, when everyone and his brother got a cell phone overnight.
I think a lot of it had to do with that in Sweden, you didn't pay a cent for incoming calls to your cell phone. In the US, people calling you cost money, so you didn't give out your number as freely.
one of my all time favorites.... a true classic
The "Greek chorus" at the beginning tells the essence of the movie as the Dude being a tumbleweed blown by the winds of chance. Also, one of the most repeated lines was based on Steve's character in Fargo.
This reaction really ties the channel together

This movie is even funnier if you've read some of Raymond Chandler's novels, because not only is it a wild comedy, but it's also a parody (and homage) to the film noir era and Chandler's twisted plots.
The cussin is what makes this a guys cult movie. This is the way guys interact.
Its a Cohen Brothers movie. Its own Genre.
The check for .67 cents is dated 9/11/ 1991. Ten years before the 9/11 Twin Towers attack. Just one of the little things I noticed while watching it dozens of times.

I thought it was wierd at start. Got funny , And bridges andgoodman tied the movie good together..
The key to this movie is to realize that the entire film is poking fun at the absurdity of masculinity. It's all riffs on dick jokes and male impotence - literal, spiritual, and metaphorical. First time I watched it, I didnt know what I had just watched. But it got stuck in my head, and with every successive watching, I enjoyed it more and more.
...my favorite moment in the movie..."He fixes the cable ." 🤣
You mean coitus?
😄👍 If you are at all interested in seeing (or at least hearing) John Goodman and Steve Buscemi in a far more wholesome context (i.e. without any cussing at all), check out Disney/Pixar's "Monster's Inc," which came out three years after this movie. Their roles are completely reversed in it. Goodman voices the hero and Buscemi voices the villain.
So I didn't see an answer but, They call the animal a Marmot in the movie --- But it is a Ferret lol --> A marmot was originally planned to be used in the bathtub scene but a ferret was swapped in once the Coen Brothers realized that a marmot would be too large for filming purposes. I mean a marmot can be over 24 lbs while a ferret is around 3-5 lbs
Next, you're going to tell us that wasn't a real Pomeranian.
Thanks ladies. The dude abides , love the Kenny Rogers song.. ( dresm sequence)
Walter calling that mutt a Pomeranian...lol.
Not sure what that other animal was exactly because a lot of animals belong to the weasel family...ferrets, skinks, stoats, etc.
One of my favorite movies
It's a very clever movie that keeps you guessing until it ties everything together. Just like the rug.
13:30 I had a beeper until 2002. My company then had us get cells, and even though it was their money, it still cost $400-$500 for a flip phone that didn't do all that much.
The cowboy at the bar was Sam Elliott, he’s a legendary actor who’s been in alot of western movies. His trademark is his super deep voice
Recommend Lifeguard starring Sam Elliot.
The thing about a comedy movie like this, is that its all about the dialogue. The actual crazy plot is secondary to what the bizarre interesting characters say. As you pointed out, they are all characters in the truest sense of the word. The dialog is masterful. That's why its so quotable. There are funny little things going on in every scene.
The foul language was just a part of their characters. Of course it was excessive and over the top foul language>>their characters were over the top. I think females get more bothered by that because groups of guys tend to talk more like that.
The subtleties make the film. The cops having to sit in the Dude's apt and take an inventory of what was missing from his beater car. Then having the phone call where Maude says she took his rug, and the cop says "well, we can cross that one off the list".
Walter questioning Larry about where the $$ is, but only repeating "is this your homework Larry?" over and over, getting nowhere. Btw, Larry's Dad was in an iron lung.
The very stiff, serious and formal way Seymour Hoffman does his assistant job and speaks.
The Private Eye sitting out in the VW, who shows a black and white picture of Fawn Knudsen's (Bunny) family home in Moorhead MN, with no trees in the picture and flat barren cold forbidding landscape, so desolate, and the PI says, "they thought the photo would make her homesick". This is the Coen Bros poking fun at their own home state of Minnesota and a direct reference back to FARGO, like an inside joke for FARGO diehards.
The big tough looking African American cab driver with an African ethnic cap listening to a overplayed Eagles pop tune instead of rap or soul music, and the Dude hates the Eagles.
The ahole cop telling the Dude over and over to "stay out of his nice quiet bedroom community".
The whole absurdity of them trying to bargain down the funeral director who keeps telling them why they need at least a modest "receptacle" for the ashes.
It's all the little things and dialogue which makes this movie so repeatable.
A lot of people don't get it and are confused by the bizarre chaotic plot.
