@@rossiebell2228 thank you so much. I actually see it. I looked on the Sleepy Hollow website but they are saying alot of the events are cancelled this year.
This was north tarrytown until 1996 when it was renamed named sleepy hollow. The horseman legend came from tarrytown and kinderbrook, the villages south. the horseman was the spirit of a german soldier that chased people lost the woods. Irvine made up the headless part just about everything washington irving wrote about including the character ichabod.was fiction. Some of The family names are true as they were the families that lived around the villages. The town embraces its "legend" which is amazingly awesome and spooky. 1 of my top 10 stories. But remember none of it happened and it really didnt happen in that place.
Thanks! I really wanted to make sure I was seeing everything I needed to in Sleepy Hollow. Would have hated to arrive home only to find I missed seeing something 🙈
@@BrytonTaylor you should've add the music if Tim Burton's sleepy hollow by composer Danny Elfman in the background of the video then it would've been better.
I actually has play Sleepy Hollow as a theater once! Me and my theater group played our own version of the story! And I played Ichabod Crane! And the guy who played his/mine rival Brom Bones was a 10 years old young boy! I was 25 years old! And the woman who played Katrina Van Tassel was 66 years old! So it was big difference in our ages!
I used to live in Sleepy Hollow on Beekman Ave and Washington St and attended Sleepy Hollow High School. We got lost in the cemetery. So many memories.
Another spooky story by Irving is “The Devil and Tom Walker”. It’s a story about the Black Man of the woods. It must have been awesome living in that time with all the superstitions.
THIS IS MY ALL-TIME FAVORITE HALLOWEEN STORY AND I JUST SAW A VIDEO OF (OF ALL PLACES) UTAH GIVING TOURS OF THEIR VERSION OF SLEEPY HOLLOW. I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS GREAT WORLDWIDE TOWN DOESN'T HAVE HALLOWEEN WAGON TOURS ITSELF. AS HALLOWEEN IS SURPASSING CHRISTMAS IN POPULARITY AND SALES WITH $9 BILLION IN 2017 ALONE JUST IN AMERICA. JUST IMAGINE IF SOMEONE WITH VISION AND A KNOWLEDGE OF BUSINESS COULD START ACTUAL TOURS OF THIS GREAT TOWN ALL SUMMER AND INCREASE THE ACTIVITIES AND WONDER CLOSER TO HALLOWEEN. THIS WOULD BE A GOLD MINE BUSINESS-WISE. I KNOW OF THAT AMAZING 300 YEAR OLD COVERED BRIDGE IN VERMONT(IF IT'S STILL THERE) BUT YOU COULD CONSTRUCT THE VERY ONE FOR THIS TOUR AND LITERALLY HAVE VAN-TASSEL'S BALL WITH COSTUMED ACTORS AND REAL TOURISTS INVOLVED IN A GRAND PARTY NIGHTLY. I COULD GO ON FOREVER WITH IDEAS TO MAKE THIS TOWN A TOURIST PARADISE!!!
Great video! Horsefeathers is fantastic! Another spot worth visiting is Christ Episcopal Church which is halfway between Sunnyside and the cemetery. The church I believe is open Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to noon, and it includes a monument to Irving as well as the pew he sat in for services, and to the left of the altar a private little library with first editions of his works and some of his Bibles.
Thank you very much! I am going to Sleepy Hollow this next week. The story of the Headless Horseman was one of my favorites (thanks to Disney) and I of course loved reading the original story too by one of America’s greatest storytellers :)
Grew up in NJ, visited Sleepy Hollow a few times. Spent Halloween 1998 in the town. Beautiful town and love the cemetery....its huge!!!! Now I live in San Diego and everything here was built in the last 20 years.....how boring! Thanks for the video :)
Great video! Sleepy hollow is a very special place to me. I’ve visited many times from NYC & recently have been weighing my options of possibly moving there rather then back to the city.
I grew up in Sleepy Hollow and my HS sweetheart lived in a place called Sleepy Hollow Manor which is a few miles north of the Old Dutch Church just off Route 9. I would walk her home at night and the most direct route to my home was along the border of the SH cemetery. I was okay for a bit as I walked past the graveyard, but my imagination would finally get the best of me and I would sprint down Route 9 until I reached the Old Dutch Church. Ah, the things one will do for love! I still laugh when I think of it.
The Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze is in Croton-on-Hudson NOT Sleepy Hollow. It is up the Hudson River just less than 10 miles & just less than 20 minutes away.
The Legend is true. The headless horseman is believed to be that of a Hessian soldier. Killed inside a battle surrounding the Revolutionary War. Late 1700's. The Hessian soldier was fighting for the British. It is my understanding the soldier's death happened in close proximity to the Old Dutch Church and cemetery. However the true burial of the headless body remains a complete mystery. 💟
From memory, definitely different layout and feel. Sleepy Hollow does have a main street with shops and restaurants. But Philipsburg Manor and Sunnyside (historic houses rather than museums) have gift shops. I pretty much bought everything in the Sunnyside gift shop and no regrets!
Hi Liza, we drove up and around to Vermont where we stayed at a property next door to Rudyard Kipling’s home outside Dummerston for several days. Then on the way down to Hartford, CT we visited the Eric Carle Museum in Amherst, MA and the Dr Seuss Museum in Springfield, MA. The next day we did a tour of both Harriet Beecher Stowe and Mark Twain’s home in Hartford. I wish I had planned at least another week though. There was so much more to see so we really only skimmed some of the highlights.
I live and sleepy hollow and oml- Every season this place is empty but when it’s halloween so many people visit, its so jam packed. Lol
Are there any hotels near by?
There isn’t any in sleepy hollow but there are some close to here like the spring hill suits in Tarrytown

Would it be a terrible time to visit this year? I've never been, but if it's still packed I wouldn't want to contribute to it
@@dang3rdays I'm debating whether to go as well. Are you going with friends? I want to go bad.

Sleepy Hollow is right above Tarrytown. Sunny Side, Washington Irving’s house, where I was bicycling the other day, is right below Tarrytown!
I swear your cat did a vanishing act😂.....fits the occasion!
This was entirely well done, thank you!

Hey! I grew up on Beekman Avenue near Cortlandt Street. My parents owned a deli a few doors down from that corner. Pat's Deli.
Wow what a great video, you really covered all the best spots I like to show people when the come to visit the Hollow 🎃
Great Job!--You explained everything in great detail. I'm looking forward to visiting there next fall. Also. I love your cat in the video!

Just had to share this on FB. Now I’ll have to watch the Disney version, even though it’s still July. 🤓
It's never too early for Halloween movies! 😆
So very true. Just watched Dark Night of the Scarecrow the other night. 😄

Is it like Salem with alot museums and gift shops etc? Or not really
