Young children are working hard on developing their emotional intelligence. They may not always understand why they feel the way they do, or how to express their emotions in a healthy way. Using a feelings list or feelings visual can help children to identify their emotions, and to learn how to talk about them in a safe and supportive environment. Here, Mrs. Hays demonstrates how to look at a short, visual list of basic emotions to help identify her own feelings.
Helping kids identify and talk about their emotions can help them to:
    - Develop a better understanding of themselves and their emotions
    - Learn how to manage their emotions in a healthy way
    - Build strong relationships with others
    - Seek help from a trusted adult, family member or friend
    - Reduce stress and anxiety
    - Improve their overall mental health
Kids with autism, speech impairments or other unique abilities can especially benefit from identifying their emotions. This is because they may have difficulty understanding and expressing their emotions in a neurotypical way. Using a feelings list or feelings visual can help them to learn about different emotions, and to develop strategies for communicating and managing their emotions.
