Raid the Deepest Room in the Aquapolis 20 Times

- As a compulsive achievement hunter, Final Fantasy XIV has given me no shortage of challenges. Heavensward treasure maps proved to be an unexpected obstacle, and now the Aquapolis owns my small, angry soul.
- Hry
There are two types of FFXIV players: those who haven’t done maps, and those who panic when faced with two identical unmarked doors.
The Stanley Parable
I've only recently started playing thus no maps, but as a long time DnD player, statistically, each of those doors is more and more likely to be a mimic.
@@butiliketacos Nah, the mimics are in deep dungeons. They can give you the pox.
I was like the later at first but eventually I was more like "I just chose a door on pure gut instinct and don't worry about it" and sometimes the classic "eenie meenie miney moe".
8:25 I half expected you to say "You've done it. You have raided the deepest room in the Aquapolice ONE time"
I was expecting the same lol
Happy because raided the deepest room in the Aquapolis 20 times.
(Still small)
ANGRY
Mad because ejected.
for those wondering why so few players have done the Hidden Canals of Uznair one, you can only get the maps for it, thief's, from another map portal's loot (specifically from gazelleskin) and can't buy them from the mb, and you have 3 doors to choose from instead of 2.
on the bright side every thief's map spawns a portal.
I pray he does this next. Imagine the pain.
There was briefly a moogle event where you could buy thief maps with tomestones. Really wish I stocked up on more when they were doing that
To this day, I still have only two clears of twenty for my Thief portals. My other door dungeons are either at 16 or complete, with roulette dungeons being... idr? *shrugs*
Thief dungeons are terrible, and you have a better chance at Cassie's earring in Pagos - I swear.
There are also 3 doors per room in the hidden canals. My group only made it past one or two floors each time
I hated this one party, raided for those maps, leader just takes them and...nothing party disband and no thief map was used.
Great video, as always!

Now for the maths, I have an addition to make to your conclusions.
The ejection rate did not drop significantly, if you consider each door to entail an independent roll of the dice. It only looks like it because the number of attempts is much lower for the later rooms.
If we compute the individual extraction rates, we seem to gravitate around a similar chance of being ejected at each door:
1. 25 / 98 ≈ 25.5%
2. 19 / (98 - 25) = 19 / 73 ≈ 26.0%
3. 16 / (73 - 19) = 16 / 54 ≈ 29.6%
4. 9 / (54 - 16) = 9 / 38 ≈ 23.7%
5. 9 / (38 - 9) = 9 / 29 ≈ 31.0%
6. 6 / (29 - 9) = 6 / 20 = 30%
Compounding these failure ratios with their number of respective occurrences, we reach an average failure ratio per door of:
[25*(25/98) + 19*(19/73) + ... + 6*(6/20)] / (98 - 14) ≈ 27.13%
Given the small sample size, I will speculate and say that the actual failure rate is 25%, i.e. the success rate is 75%. That would make intuitive sense, given that there are 4 outcomes for opening a door and 3 of them are successful.
Considering this, the total success rate per map becomes (75%)^6 ≈ 17.80%, which is close enough to the ≈15% rate you actually got.
Thanks for reading my rambling. Maths guy out!
Is Cider Math like Steiner Math?
@@matthewhostetter8974 I wish we had a 141 and two thirds chance of getting to the deepest room of the Aquapolis.
as a fellow Math Guy I'm glad my immediate thought on seeing his numbers was already mathed out by someone else so I don't have to do it myself
unfortunately, math aside, the success chance last I heard was calculated on entry, if the door can open it will regardless of which side you open :(
@@Naexus01 that's fine but the "there are three success and one fail" results on the doors is just coincidence and all the math he used is still solid independent of that.
Or maybe they intentionally added three different "success" animations and they're each tied to ranges on the pre-rolled rng and it's technically not a coincidence at all.
"Blue mage players are.... Weird"
Yes.
as a BLU main, can confirm :P
As someone in a fc run by a BLU main, can confirm.
@@Gatescholar It is the price of being superior.
Our lesser kin cannot fathom how we operate, thus we are considered weird.
However, being generous gods, that is fine. They will learn. They will join us eventually.
One of the great narrative voices in FFXIV 🔥
I ran in a weekly static for Canals of Uznair for a solid 7 months. We got 3 clears in the deepest room. I wish you the best and I'll be watching your achievement numbers to compare them to my own and increase my e-peen.
How many gazelleskin and thief's maps did you run per week?
I am not ashamed that my Au Ra and one of my Highlander alts got to be involved in this insanity. Another great video Cider.
What there to be ashamed? Wish I got into something.
We now have three things in common :
- obsession for achievements points
- blue mage is only for Triple Triad (and achievements, ofc)
- WHISKY IN COFFEE
uh, that all would make you blue mage player, therefore, you are weird.
considering that two achievements include synced savage raiding with full BLU.
oh yeah and EVENTS. like constantly running Aurum Pain dungeon.
This was so well written.. thank you for your efforts in trying to raid the deepest room in the Aquapolis 20 times.
Raid the Deepest Room in the Aquapolis was said 15 times.
we gotta get those numbers up
Imagine playing a tabletop RPG with Cider as master
his pacing change is amazing and dramatic asfk
love it!
i’m currently attempting to raid the deepest room in hidden canals of uznair 20 times and am so excited for all the suffering that entails
How's that going now? lol
I really like the weapon you have. It's a nice shin smashing stick.
Oh, so this is why there hasn't been a Mad because Small in quite a while...
partially random achievement grinds, also partially that cider has gotten really into savage raiding
Just found your channel. Man it's so good. Thank you!
A grind that was well worth it. Congratulations Cider and team!
Okay. This is literally one of the funniest maps related videos I've ever seen. XD
before you know it, your 6 rooms deep in that Aquapolussy..... damn it cider i laughed so hard i fell outta my chair at that.
This popped up in my recommendations randomly. I'm so happy for the algorithm. You got a new sub.
U deserve more subs! Amazing editing, good humor and info lol
Cider, I see you have descended into the hell of treasure maps too
Good luck on your next quest!
I love how you mention someone being a 'failure' while showing your character dressed in a WHM costume next to chilbro's grave. That's fekkin' savage. A+
I thoroughly enjoyed this video about raiding the deepest room of the aquapolis 20 times. Also mad because maths. Congrats on another entertaining video!
Stanley then proceeded to enter the door on his left.
Stanley was then ejected from the Aquapolis.
My partner spent most of the last year working on this achievement. They did a map run every single week with a few breaks with anywhere between 2-4 people from their FC. I can confirm - having watched them scream in despair at a sixth-floor boot, have multiple weeks where one or two portals spawned and they got kicked out on the first or second floor, despite opening like 10 maps between them, and finally seeing them get the achievement at like 4am our local time, after that year of work, where they whooped so loud they'd worried they woke the neighbours - this video is COMPLETELY accurate. They are also thinking of doing the level 70 map achievements now. Godspeed.
Thanks for the video friend!
I know still mad because small but, congrats on getting that achievement!
And here I thought getting to the last floor of Heaven-on-High on your own was hard.
I’d love to see more types of these ffxiv shenanigan videos from you! Mad because small is good, but like with any good channel, variety is better.
This was a really fun one to watch. You actually plan on attempting the hidden canals achievement? You absolute madman!
This is definitely one of the raids of the deepest room in the Aquapolis 20 times of all time.
Mentor roullete Astrope mount-"hold my beer"
Bigger number better person! Get all those achievements!
This video was so well orchestrated that I wanted to narrate with you. In a land... torn by war... two men... narrated the hell out of it.
It only took one night of this for me to realize the suffering it would induce.
I hit subscribe the second I saw the morbol seedlings. A man of culture.
Amazing video and super informative! Maps are fun to do with friends. :D one day I'll go back and finish my 20 deep dives lol But so much to do in game as is hehe
You're 100% correct on the BLU leveling, I did it for the cards. I wanted that sweet, sweet, jammy toast mount. (by far the most time I've ever invested in a single mount in any game, I'm looking at you 3 weeks of Cloud Deck Ex pugs).
Aquapo-WHAT-sy? Thanks, I hate it now. I'm going to have to use that to torment my friends. Also good luck on the thief map grind.
Let me introduce you to "Theif Maps"... happy hunting
Mr.Bones' Wild Ride: the Ride never stops.
30 seconds in... Well now! Welcome to the achievement hunting community. We have milk, and cookies, and AANNNGEERRRR...! (Partially kidding on one of those points)
Also: I totes laughed when I saw your ending and that the likes were already in to mid 200s. lol
SUFFERING! \o/
It was a pleasure helping you drag your poor little lalafell feet through all this torture.
Hey, at least you got a twitch chat for this! I love doing treasure maps put PF is a gamble most nights.
Fun drinking game. Every time he mentions raiding the deepest room the in aquapolis 20 times, take a shot.....actually, drink a beer....OK maybe sip it.....OK maybe don't make that a drinking game, i dont wanna be responsible for any deaths.
Are YOU the reason Dragonskin maps shot up in price last week? They were going for like 70k :o
if on crystal/diabolos then ya... xD most like was him.
We once got the price up to 150k
Cider is indeed the best drink AND the best youtube person
This is really interesting, since I also just completed this achievement today, and my stats show the opposite of what yours did: The rejection rate appeared to be higher for the final two rooms than the first four rooms. Mine were showing a 70-75% success rate for rooms 1-4, and right about 50% for rooms 5 and 6. In addition, rooms 3 through 6 all seemed to have around a 20-25% chance to be a rainbow save.
All of my runs were done picking the left door exclusively, unless the door was illuminated, in which case I'd pick that one.
Do you know the definition of insanity? No? Me neither, let's go!
Good Vid, I'm actually going for the Hidden Canals of Uznair achievement currently lol.
godspeed
Oh buddy, this is neat. Thanks Cider!
As one of those weird Blue Mage players, I can confirm that yes, we can solo the level 60 and 70 Treasure Dungeons. :D
I've tried...and failed...mostly because I panic, I think (or I need a better loadout of abilities). Out of curiosity, do you go in as a Healer or Tank role?
@@avaricsymphorian I go as healer role, with Mighty Guard and Basic Instinct up. That means a single Pom Cure will be nearly a full heal. But sometimes I still screw up and then there's no saving that. lol
@@captainkronos this is the way
The bosses in the shifting altars are spooky as all hell on blue, the critical moment at 70% when they spawn adds is incredibly dangerous, but yeah you can definitely do it and the 60/70 door dungeons as blue are pretty easy.
I was there for the filming of this stupidity and still didn't see the chest after chest joke coming. GJ making me nearly choke on my dinner.
Treasure maps are fun huh? :) I've gotten a few achievement but bedamned if I remember them all lol good luck to you sir
Fantastic video
"Secret Disco Party" lol. My friends and I call it "Rainbow Jesus". We also pray to Ramuh in the later Shifting Altars map dungeons.
Recently, a FC mate started calling it "Google Coin Flip Jesus" cause she started trusting her choice to, well, Google Coin Flip lol
Good luck getting the Thiefskin Map achievement--I believe that one is actually the rarest in the entire game.
1:56 Oh, you did NOT.... :D Great video!
My FC does maps every week for a couple hours. We rotate between the 70, 80, and 90 maps every week. In a year of doing about 20 maps per week, we've only reached the end of a treasure dungeon about 4 times. 🤣
do you guys just keep dying or what
@@Fexghadi No, we just get bounced out of the treasure dungeon by the RNG gods.
heyyy, i got you beat, been playing for 7 years though. got a fc mate who hunts cheevos and has even more than i do. keep up the good work though! also enjoyed the video, despite the lalafell avatar. :P also just checked and ive only been to floor 7 once.lol
Best way to have access to the most maps is you and your friends mail maps to each other. Your mail box can hold 20 maps and there are mail boxes all over the world.
Mad because raiding the deepest room in the Aquapolis
My condolences.
That ... discouraged me from ever wanting to do maps ever again lol.
What a fantastic video! xD
ok, this was a great, expertly crafted video. youtube actually recommending something good :V
Welcome to the club, polis lord~♡
As a blue mage I can attest to being weird oh and good luck I hope you can pull it off
The sluices await, Cider.
now I understand why the Wind-up Philos is so expensive. I just want my bro minion man
Absolute madlad and hero
lmao good luck getting the luckiest of lords/ladies title. We've been doing maps every sat for years and once i had about 30 hidden maps saved up and we didn't get to the end even a single time, i have about 10 collected atm for the next 'attempt'.
more luck required
@@CiderSpider What techniques do you use when choosing a door? A /random or just go with the flow? Lately we've taken to chanting this when opening the door czcams.com/video/biT-3qzJWGQ/video.html
It's worked atleast twice i swear!
.. and "Big Fish" fishers are like "Oh no!... anyway..."
My party did this for the first time last night not even knowing how hard it is to really go through the Aquapolis. We did it first try... probably never again but it was fun!
Good luck getting the “wings of fire” title
Secret disco party is best disco party.
I think that chicken might have worms.
Only a gigachad like myself gets two portals within an hour and leads their group to the bottom of the 90's treasure map dungeon. That was a good evening.
Female Lalafe talking with deepest voice with papaya music on background.
Yeah this is just makes Tataru is True Zodiark in Disguise theory more convincing
Hot sultry voice? FFXIV treasure? MATH!? This is my kind of video~
Mad because BLU!
Why the hate for my fav job. Keep up the great content ❤
0:16 "I have also been smoking 10 cigars and drinking my weight in whisky every day since the day I was born"
*Laughs in WHM* Who needs friends when you can solo the mobs? *Suddenly sad* A-anyway... Good and hilarious content as always. I love your small and angry persona. She's small, she's angry, and she pulls no punches when the truth's gotta be told and shins need to be corrected. She's the Warrior of Light we need... *chuckles* in Halloween fun-size form. :)
Gather/buy a fuckton of maps, mailing each one to a friend to be mailed back to you for mass map storage in your mailbox. Easy stockpile solution.
"The slow regard of stolen things", eh?
That's a Rothfuss reference, that is.
I started the Lyhe Ghiah version of this and gave up after one session. The portal being random, the correct dungeon being random, the randomized doors. It was such a massive waste of time.
It's better to go with a group of people and have as many maps as you can carry. Doing it solo isn't worth it since the dungeon is synced.
I'd pay money to hear you say "Autobots roll out"
Two whole likes... you're really asking for the impossible here, but here's one to get you started. No idea where you're gonna get the rest from, godspeed to you :v
Watching this realizing I have had 1 clear left to get for this achievement for the past 6 years
Whenever i see deep dives of content, similar to this;
i remember that Yoshi P calls this all "casual content;"
And what i can deduce from that is- *HE IS A SADISTIC SON OF A BI-*
I miss RPG games being simple. Fuck this domain.
Aquapoussy is a word that will haunt me in my darkest dreams everyday for the next 6 months...
Now I'm curious what the most difficult achievement is like.
welcome to the pain and suffering that is solo'ing potd from 1-200
Soloing Palace of the Dead. From floor 1 to 200.
Necromancer isn't remotely the hardest, Raiding the Hidden canals 20 times (the special lvl 70 thieves' map) is the rarest title, so that's probably the hardest.
@@Henri-email-archive It is, because you need maps from a map dungeon to even enter, and then there's three doors instead of two, meaning you're more likely to fail.
@@Henri-email-archive just because its the rarest doesnt mean its the hardest. any 8 apes that know how to play FFXIV can easily get their 20 clears, if they keep at it for weeks, months, maybe years. theyre never going to lose progress on it, theyll never be told that its impossible. it just takes a ton of time.
clearing something like Dragonsong Reprise would likely be the hardest because, on one hand, youre never more than 20 minutes away from victory. you just wiped? the next pull could go perfect for 20 minutes and you win! or youve never even entered the fight? well, it only takes 20 minutes to clear!
but thats the trick. you have to be good enough to do it. you have to know exactly what to do, where to go, how to do it. and if you make any mistakes, its back to square one. youre 20 minutes away from victory.
Grats.
Reaching the the deepest room of the aquapolis 20 times related kino
Did you work on your VA recently? Not that I’m saying your Voice before was bad, but this is great.
Mad because small sample size.
Mad because poor!
Lost 50/50 on the door!
Sad because poor.
But who's keeping score?
I was watching twtich chat when he pulled some of those scenes in Limsa together.
