"The Best teacher is yourself" ...huge truth!. Thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge and experience.
Saludos desde Argentina!
Very thanks Ilia for your kind and direct suggestion and teaching. Im 54 years old and I started my Chelo self teaching and I hope reach a progress. I am clear that with a chelo teacher es best way, but with your comments and sugest is a great point to start. Thank you again. Bye Bye from 🇨🇱
I love your videos and this one is especially helpful. Rotating my head around as you did finally loosened up my shoulders for the first time! You are so right that keeping a straight bow is important. A famous cellist friend just showed me one more aspect of this, and that is to watch the angle the bow makes with each string. The bow should always be orthogonal to the string and thus parallel to the bridge. I started using a large mirror to watch this and realized my bow was not close to the correct angle on the C and A strings. So each string crossing requires a precise correction for the new angle. Not many professional cellists do this, but one who stands out as religious about it is YoYo Ma! Another variable I have spotted is this. Suppose your bow is perfectly parallel to the bridge. If you wobble the “up and down” angle with the string, this effects the sound. Keeping this angle the same and the speed steady both further contribute to a smoother sound.
3:40 real footage of me every evening. Thanks for this videooo
I enjoy your content, and I especially enjoyed this video. I think you made a real breakthrough in vulnerability which is so great. Yes, the neck exercise looks funny to someone that isn’t serious about their playing and study, but wow- so great to really show us your process. AND so great to hear you mention your admiration for Pablo Fernandez! We all need people who inspire us and it’s so nice to hear who you admire. Thank you!
You're brilliant Ilia, thank you for making your videos! I love your passion - teaching academics and technique with passion and humour - that is gold for me, being 66, beginner with acadamic background and now painting artist. Cello has been a childhood dream. I now explore and it is wonderful and progresses thanks to you. What an adventure! Flexibility and freedom, from a core of good posture. You are a philosopher.
I love that you talked open strings, such a great reminder.
Open strings! Love them! 😃
I am watching to learn how you do good skills. Thank you, sir.
You are welcome Paola! :)
What you are teaching us in this video makes so much sense. It is so well explained. Ek het nog nooit sulke videos gesien nie. Jou videos is absoluut uniek Ilia. Dit is so inspirerend. Baie dankie dat jy dit met ons deel.
Thank you so much dear Claudett! Ik ben heel blij dat jij mijn videos uniek vindt en dat het inspirerend is! Hartelijk bedankt!
Because of our economic status I have only a $450 student 'cello, but am very thankful for it and enjoying it. It does have a very weak sound without amplification, so I appreciate any help. Thank you Ilia!
Thanks for this lesson. Important things to remember and work on.
Thank you dear Carl!
In musical standard Italian musical terminology, bowing over the end of the fingerboard is called Sul Tastiera, and bowing very close to the bridge is called Sul Ponticello. You will see those instructions frequently in classical music. But, of course, most of you knew that already.
You make me understand so much !
I hope so! Even with my accents! Thank you for watching!
Thank you. Will try potato bag and moving body in circle 🎉
Will be very beneficial, trust me! 😊
Oh man the way you did that convulsive neck exercise was funny 😂

Muchas gracias querido Arnulfo! Saludos desde Vitória, Brazil! 😃
I'll try this asap !!!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
And how did it work for you? 🙂
Thank you!
You are welcome! Hope you find it useful!
Wow! I love how you feel it and how you teach! 😉
Thanks so much Remy!! 😃😃😃
Thank you so much 🙏
You are welcome!
I love this exercise with the bag, thank you!
Fantastic that you loved it! Very glad to read this! Have you tried it? If so, what are your thoughts about it?
@@IliaLaporevcellist yes! I have been doing it whenever I feel the need to press the bow to make sound. It helps get the correct feeling of sinking into the cello
Reminder bell set ! 😊
Awesome! As always, you are the first one! 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Best cello channel! I know your channel is going to get huge soon...👍💪🙏! (My cello thanks you too 😊)
Thanks again! Let’s try to reach that! 😃💪🏻
Thanks!
You pointed out all of my problems 😅💦
I tried the ‘lesson with bag on my right arm’. It’s really helpful and I can feel the weight on my arm. Next I will try correcting my posture.
My big problem is I live in small apartment with wall…I always use mute when I play cello😭
I wish my cello sound is like ‘silk’ sound like yours.😊 please continue make your great lesson for me🥰🇯🇵
I will! Tomorrow I start to make a video with your request! Many people are asking me to do the same topic! So soon (I hope I can release it on Wednesday) the video will be out! 😃
Thank you so much. It turns out i was very much stiff in my shoulder area and it was the main reason i was dissatisfied with my sound! Thanks again☺️☺️❣️
Oh no! Stifness in shoulder is never good! 🙁 But now you know it and you will get rid of it! 😃 Glad you enjoyed it!
clever
You are soooooo cool 😎
lol 😎
Where can i get a t shirt like the one you are wearing?
Your bow looks amazing. Who made it?
It’s actually a bow that I play for almost 20 years. It is made by Czech archetier Alexander Hendruk. He will be glad reading this comment!
You know this is a good video because it has1k likes but 0 dislike
There will be always someone disagreeing and put a dislike! A matter of personal taste and thoughts. But of course very glad this one still has the 0 dislikes 😆
The wrong way also sounds beautiful to me.
How can you tell if the tailpiece is expensive or cheap? Does it matter what you choose?
marvelous hacks
thank you !just one question, why I see YOYO Ma sometimes playing with SWIMMING bow but still sounds very nice?
Oh that’s a very good question! When we develop the real basics, we can do any motions/mouvements that we please! I also ‘swim’ time by time! But I have developed first to stay more or less on one line! Once you dominate that, then you are free to do what you want! Hope that helps! :)
@@IliaLaporevcellist thanks a lot
