Good video! Thanks for the effort! A class is certainly one of the best articulated locos ever, and pretty handsome as well with it's clear lines.
Another thing the Class A had over the Challenger is the A has a larger boiler, 106" vs 102" (both outer diameter). The "A"s were really put to efficient use by the N&W and are arguably the most versatile steam locomotives ever built, being capable of almost any service.
It wasnt uncommon for the A class to be the head locomotive on a 10000 plus coal train heading to Norfolk Virginia.
I love that about the Class As, a Class A even hauled coal trains up to 18,000 tons
The SAL had similar locomotive with the same wheel arrangement,2-6-6-4.
Those Baldwins inspired the As.
I agree with steel beast of NW that the 2-8-8-2 we’re better than the4-6-6-4
Some excellent film, but a very strange, stunted, commentary. Putting pauses in strange places makes it most peculiar to listen to.
With the TTS I was using, it was difficult to fix that. Believe me, I hated it too.
