- 1992 - The Fisher 25 ketch motorsailer by Northshore Yachts needs little introduction - her long keel and heavy displacement give her a stability and comfort at sea which is unrivalled by today's yachts, combined with sailing performance which yachting journalists confirm to be better than some cruising yachts. The enclosed wheelhouse provides all-round visibility and protection from the elements. Below decks, she sleeps 5 in 2 cabins, with a well equipped galley and separate enclosed heads. Powered by 27HP Beta engine (serviced in 2015). Complete professional valet and refurb inside and out (2015) has left her looking stunning. Bombard inflatable tender and 2-stroke Mariner outboard included. Marine survey (commissioned by vendor) available on request.
The Fisher 25 is an absolute dream boat: seaworthy, weatherproof, ideal for rainy European summers and long distance cruises all year round, thanks to the lockable wheelhouse. The room layout is excellent and well thought out for a 7.50m boat. In addition, the British construction quality and cabin equipment is impressive. For long distance cruises in blue water on flowing waters with current I recommend the arch-solid, economical Mercedes OM 636 4-cylinder marine diesel engine with 38 or 42 HP. For a well maintained boat in good condition, you can expect a purchase price of at least € 20'000.
have any Fisher 25s done a transatlantic crossing?
The U.K. Made some fantastic boats because if Britain is good at anything it is in low volume bespoke production, so it beats me why every single major boatbuilder we had went under in the 1980's/90's, with the exception of Sunseeker, Sealine & Fairline. The French flooded our markets with cheaper mass produced yachts and that was it, down we went. Poor management, low investment and the price of land probably had much to do with it, after all, if you owned a small boatyard alongside a picturesque waterway and someone offered you £1 million for the land you'd probably fold, even if it were a centuries old family business. The Fisher here was a prime example of a super quality niche motor sailor. They are still around today and hold their price really well and I'll bet you can't buy anything like them. The Fisher 30 and the flagship 37 were the most sought after, but Fisher tapped into an emerging market and were ahead of the game : a motor yacht with a 'workboat' ethos. I can't think of another manufacturer anywhere in the world that has come up with that, although I'll bet a Danforth to a CQR that an American company probably invented the concept in 1343 or something...and I'll get to know about it in short order!
I must find one in the next 5ish years, looks perfect for a very affordable live abord that's capable of The Great Lakes, knowledgeable oceans, canals, islands, and Alaska.
I'll have to research if shes trailer capable
It'd be a miracle if something similar were actually trailerable on less than a semi-trailer. Maybe a Dory??
